The Club at Los Rios
About
The Club at Los Rios opened in the early 1970s with a Don January and Billy Martindale design that takes advantage of eight small ponds and a creek that winds through the layout.
Water is in play on over half of the holes, including the opening 485-yard par 5 that features two ponds in play off the tee, and another fronting the green.
Two very difficult holes stand out on this narrow, shot-maker’s course. No. 7 goes 431 yards but allows for a huge tee shot with a generous fairway, which will definitely help on the dicey approach over the creek into a shallow green. On the par 5 No. 14, water crosses the fairway three times from the back tees.
Getting there : From I-75 north, take Plano Pkwy. east until it dead ends at Los Rios Blvd. Turn left onto Los Rios Blvd. And continue on for 1 mile to Country Club Dr. Turn right and drive a short distance to the course–look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Really fun challenging course for the money.
The winter fairways were in really good shape but the greens were absolutely smooth and true. We played in under 3.5 hours and found a perfect balance of challenging holes and birdie opportunities. We will be back to Los Rios.
'this course is great for pratice.
This course in my opinion is a good practice course for the Intermediate player. This course is not too hard but not extremely easy either. I also love the location and quality of this course.
Not Bad
Had been told this was a bad course. Not so. Greens were fine (maybe a bit grainy, but that's Bermuda). Fairways had some turf left (played in the winter, no overseeding) and the staff was friendly. There are no traps but plenty of water (even an island par 3) so bring a few extra balls if your not a straight hitter. Not a long course, but long enough, especially if your playing in 39 degree weather. Excellent bang for your buck!
Great value for the discounted price.
Fairly open layout for beginning players. 9 of 18 holes are great. Tough par 3's! Will challenge all level of players if you select the proper tees.
Conditions not great, but expected this time of year.
enjoyed the course. play was slow but it was a busy saturday afternoon.
want to go back in the spring or fall to see it with color.
Good Course
I've played this course a handful of times and although I would like to say it's because the course if good it's really because I keep finding super deals on golfnow. The staff is always friendly and the course is well maintained, but on this occasion they were watering the fairways on several holes while people were playing. I will say that this round was played in July and it was very hot so may have had something to do with the bad timing of their watering. Still, if you can find a deal on golfnow I would recommend you give them a shot...it's golf.
Fun layout, average organization
The layout is challenging and fun with lots of trees and creeks.
#7 is much better than before the revamp. The greens are very good, and most of the tee boxes are good.
No beverage cart.
The pairing with other players (twosome) and actual tee off time was not very clear. Our name must have been called ahead of time, and when we came to the 1st tee 5mn before our time a fivesome with a later time had just been called.
The foursome in front of us was slow, and the Marshal did not ask them to let us play through. He offered to let us skip a hole and come back later, which we did.
We had a pleasant game on this beautiful Saturday afternoon.
Inexpensive
Paid $25 for 18 holes and a cart on day before Thanksgiving. When we arrived we were told they were running 30 minutes late on tee off times. So we would be pushing finishing up before dark. We finished the front 9 in just over 2 hours, the Marshall suggested we replay the front nine again to be able to finish before the sun went down, which we did and we did get done just at it got dark. Course was in fair shape for November, fairways were hard.
Good place to go if you want to golf and not pay a lot. But do not expect to much.
Interesting layout and in good shape for mid November
This was my first time at this course. I had played pretty terrible, but will definitely be back. Greens were very true and not too firm. Found a deal for $30 on a Saturday at 10 am and was very happy with the course. Pace of play was a little slow but that was likely due to the old guys in my group or the hacks in front of us.
Nice and adequate for those who haven't golfed in awhile
The staff was awesome..the course is good if you are getting back to playing 18..like me... Don't let the "Country Club" name create any hesitation about going..unfortunately..it is far from a "Country Club" feel..so do not expect to find a NICE clubhouse..it is far from that...Now, the course...the club does seem to take pretty good care of the fairways..and the greens here were 10x better than the last place I played (which the other place cost me almost 3x what I paid here..) there were no sand traps but there are a few water hazards and creeks. The course is bordered with houses but they are not on the course so you won't have to worry about any errant shots hitting a house, window, backyards..etc.. Cart paths..had some extremely bad sections..and others sections had 6 to 8 inches of standing water.. The golf carts seem to be new and drive fantastic (unlike the last place where I discovered it had zero brakes).. and you can take them into the parking lot to get/drop off clubs.. I rated this course as average..primarily because the difficulty was minimal.....
Fall / Monday Round
I played this course a couple years ago and it was terrible. I played it once this summer and enjoyed it and most recently I played this past Monday. I selected course needs attention only based on the amount of leaves that were on the greens. The rest of the course was fine. I know that in the fall it is difficult to keep leaves off the green, but it was so bad on some greens you couldnt see the hole. All in all, for $10.99 (hot deal) or even $25 it's a good value for your money.
front nine fine back nine great layouts
had group in front of us holding us up even after marshall told them to let us through. late in the eve so we didnt see him again but they stopped at the turn and we finished before dark anyway.
The course was not easy and provided a moderate challenge.
This was my first time playing at this course but I did enjoy the challenge (being a beginner golfer). We did however not see a bear cart the entire time we were there. ;)
This course was in good shape. A little wet in spots, but very nice.
I love the fact this course wasn't crowded, but didn't understand why I needed to wait till a specific tee time to see if someone else was going to show up and we share a cart. I don't mind playing with others, but waiting for approx 30 minutes and no one teed off during that time, I don't understand. And if it cost to much to run a cart for one person, go up on the price or add a charge for single riders. I may give it another try, but there are many others that work you in when you get there.......especially if no one is waiting!
This course is very nice but challenging.
The course is well laid out and feels easy. That is until you see the forced carries on many holes. As a high handicapper these were very difficult for me. I liked the course layout. On the first 9 these is only one par 5 so you can get some momentum going early. The back 9 has some difficult par 5's because of lateral water or forced carries. The course was well maintained and the greens were almost pristine if a bit hard. The overall cost to fun ratio of this course makes it a great value.
Friendly inexpensive course
I enjoyed playing this friendly course. Holes were fairly straight, water lurked on the sides and trees were occasionally an issue. A very fair price for a good course with very friendly staff.
bad green, bad smell
the green is very dry and bad condition, very bad smell for the first 9 holes.
I would play again.
We went on a Sunday morning after it had rained all day Saturday and all of that morning. The course drained really well and was very much playable after all of the water that had been dumped on it. I am not too sure on the pace of play since the conditions were not ideal.
Los Rios Coming Back!
Los Rios is a fun course with a lots of history. Over the last few years Los Rios has had some hard times, but things have changed. The course is well kept, the greens and fairways are 110% improved and is a hidden secret . You can play a quick round, not too crowed and enjoy a great day of golf on a nice layout.
Nice course, staff needs work.
The course is well kept, greens a little slow(grass high). I purchased a discounted tee time(1 person) and was forced to wait for the second person that bought the same time. That day was slow and not much going on, they wouldn't let me start early. Of course, the second person was running late. They announced over the loud speaker that I could start. When I hit my shot and was about to take off, they announced to for me to wait for the second person. Yes, I was already late starting... Every other course will let you start play even if you are early 5-10min and no one is waiting on the tee.
