Disappointed
Today I played Bakewell golf course for the first time and upon getting there 30 mins before my 9:30 tee time there were only 3 cars in the car park which that made me think what was we expecting then we went to check us in for our round to be greeted by a ghost town as there were no one to greet us we just had to find a score card and as our first time there we didn’t know where we were going or what to expext on the course but it was just terrible never again will play there again
Great course
First time playing this course and the views are fantastic the fairways were great and most of the greens were good, the green fees are reasonable and you can see the new management are making improvements
Highly recommend
Great views
Really enjoyed this 9&9 course. Fun and very different layout with all the challenges you would expect of a course carved into a fairly steep hillside. I carried my clubs and glad I did. A cross between hiking and golfing. Stunning views, particularly from the 4th. Greens were a bit sandy and needed some TLC but suspect they will improve through the summer. Rare to find a level lie which made it even more challenging. Course management is key to a good round.
Stunning little course
We play here once a year as it’s between myself in London and friends in Manchester.
Course is stunning, challenging holes with good fairways and greens. Can’t fault it.
Superb course, a must play !
I try to play a new course each weekend, and Bakewell is by far in the top 3 ! Course has some stunning views and holes, as it was quite could really take my time to enjoy it. Members approached during play to just say hello, really friendly and the food in the clubhouse was amazing.
Please ignore any of the bad reviews, I really can’t over state how great the course is.
Only down side is no pro shop and range.
Enjoyable round
The course is very hilly with some blind shots. Well maintained - the ground staff were pleasant but no one was in the club house either before or afterward our round. So cannot comment on their friendliness. Not a course for walking if perhaps 70+?
Great value. Tougher than looks on the card
Lovely little course with interesting holes and great views. The elevated greens are challenging. Good condition with good greens although not been cut when we played so a bit slow ( it has been raining ☔️!😄!)
A bargain at £18
Beautiful, Challenging Course
I think this is a great little challenge for any golfer, almost every tee is elevated, and almost every other shot you play will be below or above your feet on an up slope or down slope. There are risk reward shots on most holes, and it makes you think much more than a regular course about what sort of shot you’re going to play and which club to take. It is hilly so can be tiring, but the location is great with beautiful views out over Bakewell.
The course was quite wet which was to be expected after the summer we’ve had so far, and you won’t get a huge amount of consistency out of the greens. Lots of negative reviews here but if you just play this course to enjoy it and make yourself think about your golf game then it’s excellent, and is unique to most standard parkland courses.
Thoroughly enjoyed my round and will definitely recommend to friends.
Beautiful, challenging course
Almost every hole is played from an elevated tee, and almost every shot you play will either be on an up slope or down slope with the ball below or above your feet. It’s a great challenge and makes you really think about what shots you’re playing.
The setting is absolutely beautiful looking over Bakewell! The course is in okay condition but was quite wet because of the summer we’re having! Would definitely recommend this course to anyone wanting something unique to the standard parkland course.
First and last time
We picked a lovely day for our round but sadly the tees and greens resembled a pitch and putt. Scruffy uneven tees and the greens were really poor especially the fringes when chipping. Patches of sand around the greens where your ball just sinks and if you hit a bit which hasn’t got sand your ball can shoot off at any angle. It totally frustrated us as it’s just pot luck which direction your ball goes when it lands around the greens and there’s no reward for picking the right line. The greens are bobbly and have divots out of them where people have been chipping. The strongest part of my game is my short game but when chipping and putting you might as well just close your eyes, any skill you have will be completely worthless with the horrendous bounces. I dread to think what it will be like when it dries out and firms up.
I don’t know how they have any members, after playing once you wouldn’t want to go back and play a second time.
Be prepared to hold your nose if you use the gents, they stink and no paper towels to dry your hands.
The only positive was the 19th hole, sitting overlooking the last green with a nice pint.
Hilly and picturesque
First of all the course has dried out now and is in decent condition. A short course but challenging and very hilly. The staff were welcoming and friendly.
Course is worst I have seen for April
Play this course regularly between April and October. Been today for my first visit of this year. The course is the worst I have ever seen it condition wise. The rainy weather has definitely not been kind to the course. Will leave it a couple of months till the course has dried out.
Average at best
Hard to write a review at this time of year because of the poor weather. Putting the rain and wet ground aside the condition of the course was terrible given that it is now into the start of the season the tees either had no grass at all or were like playing from the rough, fairways and greens were ok given the weather but I couldn’t bring myself to go round for the second 9.
I can see that there is potential for a nice round so I might try it again in the summer and see if it is any better.
💩
Absolute dog💩. The owner needs to put some serious work in, doesn’t look like anything’s been done at it for ages. Nearly walked in from 1st tee it was that bad.
