Greens in poor condition Photo submitted by djmesser on 05/14/2021
This course is a let down
I used to play this course every week between 2010 -2022. However , yesterday I played for the 1st time since then and I was sadly disappointed. The course is very clearly shared with dog walkers. At one point , a dog off its lead came right up to me on the green ! The greens themselves are unkept and uninspiring. The sand bunkers were either filled with what looked like marshland , or the ones that did have sand , looked like they’d never been raked or levelled. Play was unusually slow , and the temporary mats are so hard to play off as they have no give . Getting a tee to keep in place on the mat proved very challenging and frustrating. Overall ,at £20 for my round , I felt cheated .
It's ok
For £20 it's cheap and cheerful but lacks amenities.
Really Poor
One of the worst courses I have played. Fairways were longer than the rough, temp tees and greens with no prior notification, temp greens may as well have been just a flag in the rough.
Waste of £20
Good course for beginners
Open fairways and some challenging holes, great for beginners, greens could do with some work
Once it was a prince…….now it’s a pauper.
I’ve played Cannock more times than i care to remember. From a pretty little 9 hole course, it blossomed in to a small but by no means easy layout. Cleared out and defined ditches, a pond to the right of the 7th green, a full flowing stream in front if the 15th green, smooth putting surfaces, criss-cross patterned fairways……..you get the gist. This is what Cannock was like. I played with a chap once who 5 putted the 14th from around 8 feet, because the sloping green was smooth, tightly mown and fast. Now, you would get more pleasure from the pitch and putt at Beacon park in Lichfield. The company behind overseeing the running of the course are reluctant to put their hands in their pockets. But, what they don’t realise, is that with some courses in the vicinity going bust in the last few years, there is a gap in the market here to entice golfers with a reliable and enjoyable venue. All they need to do is invest in course maintenance, renewal, modernisation and infrastructure, and people will return and pay for the privilege. Come on IHL (Inspring Healthy Lifestyles), splash the cash and put CPGC back on the map.
Great conditions especially for this time of year
Very wet
Greens were extremely wet and the holes full of water, fairway was very damp underfoot , this course definitely needed to dry out somewhat
Greens in good condition
Haven’t played Cannock for a few Months was impressed with how it looked considering the recent weather and price
Needs some serious TLC
Bunkers contained no sand and were not maintained at all. Fairways were the length of first cut of rough. Greens were not well kept.
Sad
I have just come back into golf after 20 years I started playing at Cannock Park when it was nine holes watch it develop to18 holes I remember the time they had a club professional and green staff I was expecting much improvement sadly it's not as good as it used to be put that down to the council not spending any money there the golf playing community of Cannock deserve better
Showing neglect
Played Cannock many many times and have always found it challenging but recent years are showing a lot of overgrowth and particular neglect to the bunkers, as in no sand ,very stoney and no manicured edges, this wouldn't take a lot to vastly improve.
Good for practice
got lucky as it was a quiet day.. course a bit back and forward and a lot of cross fairway dangers. greens were poor and slow but as a cheap practice round learn to play golf you would to well to beat it.. really enjoyed my day
Good value but busy
Course played fine. It is used by a lot of local walkers, and we came across several groups of golfers who seem to appear from nowhere - not convinced they had paid. This resulted in up to 4 groups waiting to tee off by the time we got to the 13th hole or so, slowing play right down.
Cannock park golf club
Course was nicely looked after but it was hard to find our way around as there was limited markers as to where to go to the next hole & we got lost a couple of times especially on the front 9
Shouldn’t complain too much though as it was good value for money
Great for practice
Cheap and cheerful, ashame the council have made cut backs to the course maintenance and let the bunkers overgrow, but greens are a fair standard and fairways and rough always cut well great credit to the groundstaff who must have to contend with restricted budget. overall a fair test of the average golfers skill, and a good place to practice especially midweek twilight times.
Budget course; Great condition
Played a leisurely 18-holes at this high quality municipal course and was quite surprised at how great the fairways and greens were looking and playing. The course is also open access to anyone wanting to play with no membership fees (book on line or just turn up and pay & play) and therefore also no snooty members. All levels also playing from young to old, beginners to seasoned players with low handicaps.… my round cost less than £20 👍🏻
Left after 9 holes
No buggy available should be notified when booking
No staff around to stop unpaid people playing course
Pace of play not at all waiting all the way round which is part of the game but not good
That's the bad out the way
In good condition looked after great course to play
Enjoyed the 9 holes I played
People who pay for the game should be looked after more
