Forest Creek Golf Club
About
Designed by Dick Phelps, Forest Creek Golf Club has been named "Best Public Golf Course in Central Texas" by Golf Digest as well as "Golf Club of the Year" by Club Corporation of America. Phelps' design features plush, narrow fairways, and its namesake Forest Creek that comes into play on 11 holes. Many of the holes dogleg, and its most difficult holes are the long par 4s. These holes are especially evident on the back nine, with holes 10, 15, and 18 all playing well over 400 yards. The 15th is the most difficult, playing a bogey-welcoming, par 5-like 472 yards.

18th hole Photo submitted by BrandonTuckerGA on 11/13/2016
Love this course
A great layout with an abundancy of different holes that makes it so challenging. Some with wide landing areas some with tight areas that require accuracy. The greens putt extremely consistent but the only drawback is the firmness. You must be able to put spin on your approach shots or they will roll off the back of the greens. Bunkers are well kept and consistent
Course condition
Several of the tee boxes were burnt out and sanded. And the par 5 3rd hole was converted into a par 3 and we didn’t find out about it until the starter told us. Oh, and it took us 5hrs which is ridiculous.
Great course for the Money!
Course was in great condition. Greens firm, fairways smooth. Course was in in great condition overall.
The course is very up and down ( hilly), has good turns and can be challenging if you are not very accurate off the box.
Bring the first time I played the course I wasn’t familiar with the layout. Very small course layout on score card, but hard to read.
The staff was friendly and the Marshall was making consistent rounds to make sure pace was being upheld.
Great course for the cost.
Great course!
HUGE improvement from the last couple of years. The team there did a great job renovating the whole facility and course. It’s actually one of my favorite courses now! Great amenities, good food, not overly crowded, super cool staff!
Great condition and friendly staff. Good practice facilities. Challenging course, only a few easy holes. Holes number 9 and 18 are almost too difficult.
Greens are in excellent shape! The fairways are starting to fill out to lush conditions.
Just needs time
Love the layout, staff were friendly. They spent a lot of money to redo the course. It would be a 5 but not until next year when the greens are better. They are so hard they can’t hold a shot to the front of the green without running off the back. It was a great day, just frustrating to play bogie golf because of the greens. I feel like I’m being picky, but I won’t pay $70 for frustrating greens when there are plenty of courses for $55-$60 that have amazing greens. I’ll be back but maybe in the fall.
Fun course
In having not played here since the renovations, I was pleasantly surprised with the changes and I feel that they made the course even more enjoyable. Conditions are always good and the staff is good. Pace of play can hang up with the layout of the holes or golfers that bite off more than they can chew with the tee boxes. The course plays to the yardage marked and while most fairways are forgiving, you have to know where to miss. Otherwise a big number can pop up. It’s a fun place to play for sure.
Tough course, a lot of fun!
Fairways and greens in great shape. Greens are pretty fast right now but are rolling true. Love the layout of the course it’s very challenging and you have to pick your shots. A ton of fun!
Too slow
Played Friday afternoon expecting to be busy and it was. Pace of play was terrible as it took over 5 hours to play. There was a twosome that was holding up some foursomes and the Marshall never spend anyone up. As for the course, it will grow in better when it gets hotter. Greens and tees were in good shape. Consider increasing prices to reduce traffic, increase pace of play, and not have the course torn up.
Goat track
Since they have ponds overflowing and appear to be going to use recycle water. When are they going to use the water? It is a dusty goat track right now but the goats will have to eat the fringes on the greens or the trees. No fairway grass at all. I should have brought a mat from home.
Thanks for your comments. We had a very long, cold winter which made for a tough Bermuda transition coming out of winter. They have come in nicely now.
Lots to Love About Forest Creek
The Good (and there is a lot) - This was the first time at Forest Creek. Every one of the staff was helpful and attentive; From the check-in staff to the rangers who were on the course constantly to keep pace of play moving.
The course itself is one of the most fun I have found in the area; there are a number of holes that are just evil, in a fun and challenging way. If driver is your favorite club this course will take you to task. This is a thinking course. There are a number of doglegs that demand you hit less than 200 and hazards are strategically located to make you lay up or pay the price. The greens are challenging, filled with undulation, and FAST. There are plenty of opportunities to go for birdie, but there are some holes, 9 and 16 come to mind, where the smart play is to take your par and move on.
It is said little things make a big difference. I was impressed by the attention to the little conveniences that a lot of courses don't attend to like the ball washers, which all had water and soap in them .
There are still some recovery issues from the renovation; the fairways are pretty bare and the ground is sticky, clay like, and hard. That said, once the grass comes in it is reasonable to expect this course will be a real gem. Of note, the carts do not have USB plug-ins, so bring a full charge.
Overall, I can't say enough good things about this course. The staff is outstanding, the course is a great challenge and very fun, the practice facilities are good, and, although I didn't check out the food or drinks, it appears there is plenty of space to accommodate typical 19th hole festivities. Go play this course.
Offended
I was in the chipping area and I hear this guy call on the radio and say this guy in the red shirt (he was referring to me) do he belong hear.I was in a golf cart so I had to have checked in at the pro shop. I was dressed in golf attire. Shirt tucked in shorts pulled up with belt. So the only other reason I can see why he would have to call to see if I belong there is because of the color of my skin. I was very offended and it was unnecessary. I've played here many times and never had a problem until now.
Firm, fast, and fun
The greens rolled as smooth and true as any I have played in a long time. Fairways were tight and fast as well, and gave you a lot of options to fly the ball, bounce it, or roll it into the greens. I don't agree with the comments about the conditions or dirt fairways.
Thanks for playing and leaving a great review.
