Forest Creek Golf Club
About
Designed by Dick Phelps, Forest Creek Golf Club has been named "Best Public Golf Course in Central Texas" by Golf Digest as well as "Golf Club of the Year" by Club Corporation of America. Phelps' design features plush, narrow fairways, and its namesake Forest Creek that comes into play on 11 holes. Many of the holes dogleg, and its most difficult holes are the long par 4s. These holes are especially evident on the back nine, with holes 10, 15, and 18 all playing well over 400 yards. The 15th is the most difficult, playing a bogey-welcoming, par 5-like 472 yards.

Great course
First time here, was windy and very few groups were playing but the course was in great shape, the greens were a little less well kept than the rest of the course but it is an amazingly inexpensive course
This Course has grest vews and exiting holes
I recomend the experience to play this Course, I like the greens they are in good shape, I will like to play this Course again
Jack and Jill rolling down the hill...
Felt like a huge playground of golf. I was a little disappointed about mud, which intervened swing. The greens are definitely tricky. The views are breathtaking without the houses.
Great day to golf
I like the course even though there are difficult doglegs. Unfortunately it had rained the day before, so play was sloppy and muddy. It was still a great day to be out golfing!
Texas trip
Always like going there ... Nice course. Staff is gear !
first timer.
Really enjoyed the quality of the tee boxes, and greens. Exceptionally well maintained. I just had a hard time with loosing balls. The foliage near out of bounds was challenging for me. The dog left and right holes were very tough on me. I lost tons of balls. My fault and NOT the course. The course is too hard for me. I have to get better.
extremely challenging course
There are many blind holes, lots of trees in play, crazy doglegs. Good course but very hard to know where to hit for a first time player. The facilities are poor but the golf worth the trip.
Forest Creek... a true test from the tips...
Forest Creek gives you a little bit of everything. The course has holes that are extremely long and holes that require a player to hit targets both in the fairway and on greens. It's a great test of golf if you really want to know what kind of player you are.
Best conditioned public course I've seen in a while.
Great shape. True greens. Fair and fun. Better condition than TeraVista the day prior! Awesome value. Add a drink cart and you'd be gold.
Good conditio but overall enjoyment questionable...
I am a 10 handicap and played from the blue tees.
Pros....good condition, tree lined fairways, rolling terrain, well bunkered in good condition.
Cons...slooow play, no marshal, no beverage cart, too many blind shots, too much "target" golf required, too many severe doglegs (especially on two of the par fives). carts are in terrible condition and the entire fleet needs replacing.
Come on, keep the restroom open
Good day. Good course. Good round. We teed off around 3:30PM on Friday before the Labor Day weekend. We (twosome) teed off just before the crowd showed, and was able to finish in little less than 4 hours which is really good pace for Forest Creek. However, when we were done around 7:15ish, the everything was locked up, including the restroom. There were several other groups behind us that were still playing. We couldn't wash up or use the restroom. That's not right. I took a higher road, but I bet many guys will just relieve themselves against the wall or trees. Not very customers friendly thing to do.
Course on a whole is going down hill
Course on a whole is going down hill, used to be a well taken care of course but now looks like it wont recover at all, when you first pull up you can notice the facilities are in need of maintenance and a face lift. Rough is in bad shape and fairways are ok at best. Putting greens are in bad shape ball bounces on almost every green.
Wouldn't recommend at all
Nice value
I like the value this course offers for the money. Though not always the case, pace of play was slow the last time I played it. We had to wait 20 mins or so to tee off and we were slowed down as soon as we got to the second hole and thereafter turning our round into a 5 hour round. Staff is friendly, the beer is cold and the food is good. They are overdue for new golf carts. I would play this course again.
Great Course
Well kept greens and fairways. I'm definitely coming back soon.
Good Course
The course was not in its usual condition because of the amount of rain that fell this year. The bunkers were in really bad shape. But it's all a temporary problem. I enjoy playing the course. Shot selection off the tee box is key to a good round. I look forward to my next round at the course.
Horrible shape
I played this course last year around Thanksgiving, and loved it. Challenging, fun, and beautiful. This was my second time playing the course and in 7 months, the quality has disappeared. After record rainfalls this year, most courses are in the best shape I have ever seen them (for summer conditions). Not here...the greens were very bumpy and had bare and burned spots, the fairways were not cut properly and the bunkers were unplayable holes with dirt, rocks and weeds/grass in them. We played all bunkers as ground under repair. I will be skipping this course in my rotation until I hear that it is being managed better.
Challenging course in very good condition
Forest Creek has a challenging layout and is in very good condition. This course causes you to hit every club in your bag and some of the holes have some unique configurations. The rough was very thick both along the fairways and around the greens. The bunkers were in pretty bad shape but it appeared to be due to all of the recent rain.
I'll be back
First off, the course had some issues from the hill country flooding of the previous week which caused some condition issues. I rated the conditions as good in spite of the obvious flood damage to many of their sand traps and fairways. They have some work ahead of them to return the course to what looked like a nicely conditioned course. All of that said, I thouroghly enjoyed the course, the layout and the challenging play. the greens were in good shape and putted true. the areas that had not seen flood waters were in good shape and we had a lot of fun. The course Marshall was enjoyable to talk to as a group of speed golfers behind us wanted to try and beat a 3 hour round. We played at a brisk p[ace and kept up with the group in front of us and offered to allow the speed golfers to go through at the turn but they declined once they saw there was a group in front of us. I feel sorry for them not being able to enjoy their golf nearly as much as my brother and I did. We asked a single to join us on the back and had a blast.
My only negative about this outing was that the ninth hole was shortened to a par 3 as a result of the flood. I personally believe that if a course is not able to be played fully the rate should be adjusted during those times. We paid the full weekend fare as if it was in normal playing condition.,
I do not go around life being critical of the shortcomings but rather enjoyed being able to get out and play. I cant wait to be able to play this course again but I will call first and ask what shape they are in.
Great course that seems that only a select few know about
Will definitely be back,. The first few holes we were rained on and the rest were soggy so cart path only...yet still enjoyed and appreciated this little gem tucked remotely. Looking forward to playing in dry conditions upon my next trip back to Texas. All previous reviews are correct by stating excellent condition, slopes on every hole with challenges throughout... As stated, can't wait to play again in dryer conditions.
I play this course quite often, most recently on Sept. 2nd, the same day as this review. While the course is not in pristine condition, it's not even close to as bad as this review makes it seem.
Fairways were in good condition, and no brown spots or weeds on any of the greens And for the cost, it's a really good deal on a challenging course. The staff is also very friendly.
This reviewer must have a personal vendetta against someone at Forest Creek.
