Forest Creek Golf Club
About
Designed by Dick Phelps, Forest Creek Golf Club has been named "Best Public Golf Course in Central Texas" by Golf Digest as well as "Golf Club of the Year" by Club Corporation of America. Phelps' design features plush, narrow fairways, and its namesake Forest Creek that comes into play on 11 holes. Many of the holes dogleg, and its most difficult holes are the long par 4s. These holes are especially evident on the back nine, with holes 10, 15, and 18 all playing well over 400 yards. The 15th is the most difficult, playing a bogey-welcoming, par 5-like 472 yards.

Course on a whole is going down hill
Course on a whole is going down hill, used to be a well taken care of course but now looks like it wont recover at all, when you first pull up you can notice the facilities are in need of maintenance and a face lift. Rough is in bad shape and fairways are ok at best. Putting greens are in bad shape ball bounces on almost every green.
Wouldn't recommend at all
Nice value
I like the value this course offers for the money. Though not always the case, pace of play was slow the last time I played it. We had to wait 20 mins or so to tee off and we were slowed down as soon as we got to the second hole and thereafter turning our round into a 5 hour round. Staff is friendly, the beer is cold and the food is good. They are overdue for new golf carts. I would play this course again.
Great Course
Well kept greens and fairways. I'm definitely coming back soon.
Good Course
The course was not in its usual condition because of the amount of rain that fell this year. The bunkers were in really bad shape. But it's all a temporary problem. I enjoy playing the course. Shot selection off the tee box is key to a good round. I look forward to my next round at the course.
Horrible shape
I played this course last year around Thanksgiving, and loved it. Challenging, fun, and beautiful. This was my second time playing the course and in 7 months, the quality has disappeared. After record rainfalls this year, most courses are in the best shape I have ever seen them (for summer conditions). Not here...the greens were very bumpy and had bare and burned spots, the fairways were not cut properly and the bunkers were unplayable holes with dirt, rocks and weeds/grass in them. We played all bunkers as ground under repair. I will be skipping this course in my rotation until I hear that it is being managed better.
Challenging course in very good condition
Forest Creek has a challenging layout and is in very good condition. This course causes you to hit every club in your bag and some of the holes have some unique configurations. The rough was very thick both along the fairways and around the greens. The bunkers were in pretty bad shape but it appeared to be due to all of the recent rain.
I'll be back
First off, the course had some issues from the hill country flooding of the previous week which caused some condition issues. I rated the conditions as good in spite of the obvious flood damage to many of their sand traps and fairways. They have some work ahead of them to return the course to what looked like a nicely conditioned course. All of that said, I thouroghly enjoyed the course, the layout and the challenging play. the greens were in good shape and putted true. the areas that had not seen flood waters were in good shape and we had a lot of fun. The course Marshall was enjoyable to talk to as a group of speed golfers behind us wanted to try and beat a 3 hour round. We played at a brisk p[ace and kept up with the group in front of us and offered to allow the speed golfers to go through at the turn but they declined once they saw there was a group in front of us. I feel sorry for them not being able to enjoy their golf nearly as much as my brother and I did. We asked a single to join us on the back and had a blast.
My only negative about this outing was that the ninth hole was shortened to a par 3 as a result of the flood. I personally believe that if a course is not able to be played fully the rate should be adjusted during those times. We paid the full weekend fare as if it was in normal playing condition.,
I do not go around life being critical of the shortcomings but rather enjoyed being able to get out and play. I cant wait to be able to play this course again but I will call first and ask what shape they are in.
Great course that seems that only a select few know about
Will definitely be back,. The first few holes we were rained on and the rest were soggy so cart path only...yet still enjoyed and appreciated this little gem tucked remotely. Looking forward to playing in dry conditions upon my next trip back to Texas. All previous reviews are correct by stating excellent condition, slopes on every hole with challenges throughout... As stated, can't wait to play again in dryer conditions.
Wonderful Course But Bunkers Need Help
Very enjoyable course to play. Greens and fairways in great condition but the bunkers are a disaster; hard to describe bunkers other than they are "crusty".
Great affordable Course
Very nice course and a very friendly staff. I would recommend this course if in Austin. Some very neat holes.
Awful Pace of Play
This is the third time I have played this course and every time the pace of play on a weekend was over 5 hours for a round. The most recent round was 5 hours and 15 minutes and the previous round was over 5 1/2 hours long. Just ridiculous pace of play. The course is NOT in good shape either so that doesn't help "make up" for the awful pace of play.
I will never play this course again and recommend to anyone who asks to avoid this course unless you want to waste a day at a golf course. Additionally, the next day (a Sunday) we played Grey Rock in three hours and 55 minutes which just accentuated how poor the pace of play was at Forest Creek.
Great value!
We play at Forest Creek a few times a month on average. When we played on the 16th, we were the only ones on the course. The staff stayed the entire afternoon essentially just for us to play a round of golf in freezing temperatures and rain!
That says it all about Forest Creek and the service the staff provides!
Good times
Great time, coarse was in great shape as usual and the staff was friendly an accomodating
Don't llay there on the weekends
Extremely slow on the weekends. Too crowded. Easily 6 hour rounds.
Otherwise, a solid course. Fun to walk. Few different risk-reward shots. I would go back and play - but only during the week.
Great Course for the price
This course was a blast. Absolutely a TARGET GOLF course. Almost every shot involves a strategy; very few holes can you just 'grip it and rip it'. Keeps you on your toes. Greens in GREAT shape for this time of year. Only complaint of the course are the bunkers. Played at noon on a Sunday afternoon in early February, when it was 65 degrees and sunny... only cost me $40! Amazing deal for the quality of golf. Highly recommend.
Slow play!!!
3 hours to play 10 holes! Unless you have 6 hours to play a round...stay away. No marshals anywhere to speed up play! Guys in front of us playing mulligans each tee box and waiting for Father Time to call their number. I skipped a hole to pass the slow group but encountered an even slower group ahead.. Ridiculous!! So I ended up only playing 12 holes trying to navigate around slow play. Also, the facilities are old and rundown....from the clubhouse, the restrooms, to practice tees. Upside...the course was decent and unique for 10 holes. So frustrating! For $47 I should have just gone to Avery or Terravista.
Wet Condition
I have played there before and always enjoyed it. This time it was a bad experience. Car path only, the course was muddy, very wet, some running water and there were times you couldn't get to your ball. I lost three balls I couldn't get to. There should have been a warning before I made t-times about the condition. I will go back, I like the place, " it was just one of those things"
nice routing
Friendly staff . Course empty except for foursome in front of us that had to have picked up our ball on #11 which has a blind landing area . Stuck behind them entire back nine . Ruined an otherwise nice golf day . Many interesting shots, choices .
Home course
I love this course. It is narrow and challenging. For a $15 hot deal you can't beat it. I use to live on the course so I have a personal connection with the course. Will definitely play again.
Protections of greens fun
Enjoyed approach to greens. A fun course would be challenging for a beginner.
JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa Stay & Play Package
Horseshoe Bay Resort Stay & Play Package
The Quarry Stay & Play Package
I play this course quite often, most recently on Sept. 2nd, the same day as this review. While the course is not in pristine condition, it's not even close to as bad as this review makes it seem.
Fairways were in good condition, and no brown spots or weeds on any of the greens And for the cost, it's a really good deal on a challenging course. The staff is also very friendly.
This reviewer must have a personal vendetta against someone at Forest Creek.
