Tortured and Beat up

Now don’t get me wrong this course is tough. If you aren’t on your A game you will lose balls (rough is so penal - 5 yards of the fairway and you’ll lose a ball) and at the moment it is absolutely none hard and despite the greens being beautifully green they aren’t receptive at all. The greens are in very good condition and roll quick and true. We played the course in strong winds which always seemed to be in our faces and we’re glad we decided to play off the 138 tees as the 6400ish yards it was playing felt more like 7000! It’s such a stern test of golf and higher handicappers will struggle - if you play to handicap then you’ve played well. Good facilities including grass range and putting green. Very friendly starter/course Marshall.

One negative and this is a big one is the pace of play which was torturously slow. You should always expect a 4 hour plus round but having played here a lot today was the worst at over 5 hours as a 2 ball, not helped by us going off after 4 fourball all lady groups. They were painfully slow and almost spoiled the day for us but as they say a bad day on the course is better than a good day at work!

Terrible layout & no directions.

Do not waste your money playing this course until they either erect signs and hole numbers (there are none) and a course map on the score card (there isn’t one).

None of the tees have markers to tell you what you’re playing off, and unbelievably none of the holes even tell you what hole that you’re playing.

I got lost 3 times and then missed 4 holes and went from the 12th to the 17th and then realised my error when I got to the end of the 18th and the clubhouse.

Also, anything off of the fairway is 3-4 foot high rough and so take 2 boxes of balls if you can’t hit the fairway every time.

Absolute joke and a waste of time and money.

I will never play this course again.

Top notch course!

Course in beautiful condition and is long! I used the ‘ enjoyment tees’ brilliant idea, I always had a chance of reaching the green in regulation. Very enjoyable round! The shop/checking opens at 8:00am and I had a 7:00am tee time. No scorecard! That was my only negative.

Bunkers

I enjoy this course I used to be a member here and it was excellent and then it got neglected and I left. I was looking forward to playing it. 2 disappointments it’s been shortened which might make other people happy but I genuinely didn’t mind being beaten up by the it it was a tough test. My other problem was it’s expensive to play here. If you’re going to charge that kind of money then you should take care of the details. Put some sand in the bunkers and rake them and No I’m not talking about the ones being repaired. The greens were ok but no where near premium standard.

I like this course but at these prices I would sooner go to leek or trentham

Evening round

Lovely course on a fabulous complex, was quite tricky but really well designed. The slope rating thing is quite confusing but easy to pick up, only slight issue was the condition of just off the fairway; lots of nettles, daisies and dandelion etc - ball went into a patch of daisys and couldn’t find it due to all the white! Skipped 3 holes as was getting on and in front of me was a 3 then 4 then 4, none of who were letting me through. Overall great course, would be a great venue for a weekend away with the lads (or lasses)!

High quality

This course is a must play, everything about it screams quality. From the moment you step on the first tee you know it’s going to be a top notch course. Greens are excellent, fairways too and there’s enough water on there to keep captain pugwash happy! £25 on a twilight is great value.

Impressive

I did not have high expectations as the weather had been pretty damp the last few weeks so was just happy to get a game in before the season starts.

That said I was pleasantly surprised just how firm the course conditions were. Course was in really good condition from tee to green. With the exception of a few par 3’s you could pick whichever tee you felt best suited your game. It’s a big long course so was nice to let the driver rip after a winter of hitting irons on shorter courses. Will head back in a few months to enjoy again. Definitely worth a visit

Golf

Course in fabulous condition bearing in mind the weather and time of the year. Credit to the green keepers. Shame that the club didn’t state carry bags only on their website before booking as it was a shock on arrival after checking website for details to find no trolleys allowed.. not great with a tour bag!

I haven't played this course in about 3 years, I played today after becoming a member yesterday, this course is by far the best course in my area, excellent fairways and the greens are immaculate. Well worth a visit for anyone at any level.

Had a great days golf but when I went to check in there was nothing on there computer for our tee off, showed him my confirmation email but nothing on computer ? Getting a bit worried as we paid £104 for the 2 of us. Fortunately the chap was very accommodating and managed to get us in for a later tee time so had to wait around a while.. just hope they received the money as the lad in shop had not heard of GolfNow?

Wet weather
Walked

First time, definitely not the last

The weather was shocking. Heavy rain all night the night before, a bit of snow in the morning and windy. I don't think any of us were looking forward to playing.

It's an impressive complex. Automatic barriers, large hotel, beautiful big houses dotted around the edge of the course.

The pro informed us we couldn't use trolleys, which was fair enough.

The first hole is a par 5, which is unusual. It was our first round of the year, combined with the wet fairways, rain, cold and wind it seemed a monster. We were impressed with the first green, very true, excellent condition considering how much rain we'd had.

After four or five holes we were all commenting on how good the course was. Challenging, long, good condition, great greens.

Every single hole has been well designed. You can't just reach for a driver on every par 4. Well placed bunkers, streams and water to negotiate.

Hardly any 'easy' holes. Every hole provides a challenge in some way.

By the end of the round we were all enthusing about the course.

We played it in very tough conditions and our scores reflected that but we still really enjoyed it.

We also had the course to ourselves which was nice.

We teed off at 8am Easter Monday and played of the yellow tees.

We would love to be able to play off the blue tees but it would be too long for us.

Can't wait to play it again
