Silverhorn Golf Club of Texas, located only 15 minutes from San Antonio's Riverwalk, has quickly gained a reputation as being some of the best golf in Texas. The layout covers 262 scenic acres of rolling hills covered in mature oaks and cedar trees. The challenging golf course features tree-lined fairways and carefully contoured greens. There are also lakes and creeks, both dry and wet, coming into play throughout the golf course. The front nine's signature hole is the par-5 sixth, which has 20 acres of water bordering the entire left side, while the back nine's signature is the par-4 15th, which is considered the toughest hole on the golf course. This 446-yard hole features an elevated green that is guarded by a large bunker on the left and two creeks crossing the fairway.

Great value

Pass of play was great for 9 holes then we got behind a fivesome that was very bad and vary slow. They would not let anyone through. No marshals around to speed them up.

Not Quite Where They Think They Should Be

Having never played this course before, I did due diligence and read some of the reviews. Most of what I read was accurate. Allow me to explain.

Good:

1. Course conditions are generally good; however some of the tee boxes were slanted and the teeing grounds needed to be trimmed up a bit. (see pic)

2. Course is VERY VERY VERY tight and narrow. It is playable though and there were holes that you needed to shape your shots. Overall I liked the layout, as there were a few risk reward holes and now that I have played this course, I know where I can grip and rip.

3. Greens were generally in great shape, even though they were freshly resanded. The sand did not impede the roll of the ball from what I experienced. Unfortunately, as I have become used to, I had to repair pitch marks on the greens more often than not. (Come on everyone do your part to ensure we can continue to play fantastic greens).

4. Penalty area were not overly obtrusive or abundant. This is where now knowing where they are allows for some more aggressive play.

5. Warm Up area was ample and cost for range balls was not bad.

Improvements:

1. Outhouses in place of bathrooms. For a course that wants to charge what it charges, this was a bit of a shock.

2. Water Cans - They do no exist on this course, so bring your own water. This was shocking as it gets really hot in San Antonio, and I actually considered this a risk to playing this course.

3. Pace of Play - No Marshall seen - so the pace of play was a bit slow. There were 2 foursomes ahead of me, where the players egos got in the way of playing where they should have teed off from (enough said). -- Moving up a box only improves your scores and enjoyment of the game. There is no harm in doing so if you can't drive your ball past the forward tees.

Overall - this course has potential to be outstanding, and I would / will play here again, just don't know that I would pay full price. This is a good GolfNow location.

Just say NO!

The course is in a nice area and is fairly quit aside from airplanes flying over. Overall the cost to play this course is ridiculous for the lack of standard amenities. There was not any ball washers on the cart or the course, no water to drink aside from purchasing from the cart staff which came by 1 time in the 5 hour round. The restrooms are portable toilets hidden in the woods without signs, so you really can find them without signs. The course was in fair condition for the amount of 100 degree days and no rain. Overall the cost was $94/person for a 12:00 tee time and I would never recommend or play the course again. Note to the owners, lower your cost this is not a private secluded club, the course is a 4 at best on any given day.
