Pleasant surprise
Not played this course for a few years after an unsavoury incident with a very aggressive and threatening member, but gave it a go to try somewhere different.
Course was in excellent condition, especially for late in the season with very few fairway divots in evidence and the greens looking almost untouched. Despite it having rained (a lot) recently and some rain on the day, the greens were very fast and with hardly a flat or straight putt anywhere, were very challenging. There was no-one in front of us (2-ball) and we weren't in any hurry, so got round in 3.25 hours, which is very good for courses in this area.
The not so good bits :
- Not all the bunkers have sand in them, some have crushed glass (!!) and unless you want to ruin your clubs, have to be treated as GUR. The 'real' bunkers were very good however.
- Every green had an active hole, and another already cut and prepared. Not sure what they were getting ready for, it just looked a bit odd.
- A weird crossover on the back nine - trek from 15th green to 16th tee takes you immediately in front of another tee so you have to wait for them all to finish teeing off.
- 16th tee moved massively forwards - is now a 205 yard uphill par 4 (previous tee was 50-60 yards further back and much more of a challenge)
- Clubhouse was no longer providing food at 3:30 on a Sunday. I find this approach very odd but sadly all too common (and far from confined to this course) If we were one of the last to come in, I would get it, but there was a group / society / comp in progress with some 30-40 players still out on the course behind us.
Great value
Played this charming course several times and enjoy its mixture of crafty doglegs and up and down nature of the terrain. It was in good condition and well worth the green fee.
Very Enjoyable Round
Beautifully kept course, greens and fairways are immaculate... looking forward to playing here again!
Lovely little course
Played this course twice and very much enjoyed it. Very picturesque with a variety of holes. A good test and not too long if you're looking for a quicker round. Highly recommended.
Great course, fun and challenging
First time playing Epping and it’s a great course, as a beginner I found it really challenging but still “playable”, beautifully maintained throughout, greens are stunning, great to play.
Accurate iron shots and precise putting are rewarded if you can manage them, plus the “post round” full English breakfast was delicious!
I will definitely be heading back for a round again soon!
Epping Green
Lovely well maintained course , with a mixture of well thought out holes .greens are superb ,well done to all the green keepers .friendly staff .anyone that plays will not be disappointed
Good find
Quite a wonderful course, specially for a beginner like me. Nice staff and friendly members. The signage around some of the courses could certainly be better. Finding the 16th tee after the 15th hole in itself felt like a win, the signage was so poor! Having said that, I’ll certainly be back. Would request the course management to kindly improve the signage
Lovely course
Really enjoyed it. Greens fairways and tee boxes were great. The holes were a bit short and it’s a bit hilly but had a great time. Reasonable hazards. Friendly people.
Great
Nice Course
Very enjoyable course, quite a good variety. Found navigating to tees a bit difficult as it was my first time. Especially where to go for the 16th. A few shared tees seemed to add to my confusion. Perhaps some better signage. Otherwise no complaints and would definitely play again
Clearly well loved course
First time Playing Epping in a very long time. It’s a shorter course than others but I only really noticed that when looking at my watch and seeing I was finished in 3 hours. The course is in great condition and the greens are as good as any I have played. Decent sizes and the contours throw up some excellent opportunities to shape some putts. The fairways are in good condition and there was clear definition between fairway, first cut and the rough. My only grip is the signage. Got lost completely between 15 and 16 and on the tee boxes yellow tees were missing on some holes. I will definitely be back.
A gem
The course is in excellent condition, great variety of holes and it looks stunning. An absolute gem for the price.
Very short but in good condition
Very short course, playing even shorter in summer, in good condition particularly the greens apart from a couple that were sanded. Too short for low, medium handicappers, slowish pace of play as busy with slow 3 balls. Very friendly staff.
Great course
Lovely greens and very well maintained. My new favourite course
Very enjoyable!
Played this course a few times now and really enjoy it. Despite being short it’s quite a challenge for me as a high handicapper but not unfair. Played as a 2-ball at midday on a Sunday and took a buggy for the first time which was a good move (course is quite hilly). Flew round until the 11th when we got stuck behind another 2-ball who were very slow but who also had got stuck behind an even-slower 4-ball. Bit disappointed that we weren’t waved through but nevertheless an enjoyable (if slightly slow) round. Very friendly staff in the clubhouse too 👍🏻
Great course, great value!
Played on a busy Wednesday a couple of days after loads of heavy rain but the course was in very good condition considering the time of year and all the recent wet weather. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in good condition. No hold ups going round nor pressure from groups behind ( we were only a 2 ball) so pace of play was very good despite the course apparently being fully booked from 09.00-12.30 (we teed off at 11.30). A very enjoyable round with friendly staff in the shop/clubhouse. Beware though, it is very hilly. But fantastic value at only £21!!! Will definitely return.
