Looking down the 18th Fairway Photo submitted by u314159793424 on 02/12/2020
Good value
The course is reasonably challenging but bunkers are very poorly maintained across the whole course. It’s located next to the M11 which makes noise intrusions distracting on some holes.
The staff and clubhouse give a friendly vibe and overall is good value. Played it twice now in dry conditions and enjoy the greens.
True greens
Excellent greens, challenging layout, fairways suffering in the summer weather and were a letdown
Worst golf experience ever
Teed off 25 minutes late due to a queue of 3 groups still having not teed off at the time of my tee time. A society of 60 people, who left bags of food on each tee, teed off before us who were clearly beginners and so we were waiting 5/10 minutes before each shot often queues on tee boxes. There is no starter to ensure people stick to tee times or Marshalls to keep people moving along. This was the first time I’ve ever left a golf course after 9 holes because I’ve been so frustrated with a round of golf and I have played regularly for years. It took us over 3 hours to play 9 holes and when we did decide to call it a day, the staff weren’t at the clubhouse to hear our concerns as they were out on the course themselves. For the price point they are charging at, it is a complete waste of time and would never ever return here again. £35 for a twilight time isn’t cheap, far more expensive if you’re playing earlier, it is not even close to worth it for those kind of prices. The conditions are irrelevant as we simply couldn’t even play properly, absolute joke, worst golf experience I’ve ever had.
Not worth the money or time
Slow round, seems more important to churn out multiple tee times to impact pace of play. Most importantly poor conditions across the entire course, tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and greens all poor - not at all worth £45
Mr
Course conditions were a bit disappointed as fairway was not great, I believe insufficient watering , very dry & no grass.
Facilities have improved, still need improvements especially toilets conditions.
Staffs were friendly in general but can improve
Great day with friends!
Really helpful staff at the pro shop, made an error myself and even on a busy day they found a slot for us to play on, much appreciated! A course I will always go to as accessible and friendly members and guests.
Good potential.
This is a course that has potential to be great as the layout is fantastic and provides a good challenge. The condition of the course is in need of improvement however. Greens were ok in parts however many were damaged badly by unrepaired pitch marks and bald spots. Bunkers are all mostly rocks and could do with some fresh sand or sifting. Pace of play wasn’t too bad for a sunny weekend!
Staff were very friendly and welcoming
Still an enjoyable round however not worth the £45 green fee.
Poor conditions overall
The condition of the course is currently very poor: fairways are not taken care off at all , greens are full of pitchmarks with many bare areas and bumpy everywhere, bunkers are full of stones, most rakes broken and there are a lot of GUR/No Play areas. Not worh the money.
Beautiful layout, shabby condition.
Beautiful layout, shabby condition. Sand riddled with stones, lots and lots of weeds on fairways, greens in poor condition. It's actually quite a well laid out and challenging course. So quite a pity they've let the condition get into a mediocre state.
Great course
Lovely track in great condition and nice staff, will return!
Excellent
Play here a lot and the sunny weather has really helped it
Greens and fairways were like prime summer again
Strong Potential
Having read mostly negative reviews, which I feel (having played today) are baseless, I decided to play a warm up round prior to the weekend which I have also booked. Firstly, I arrived an hour early. The course was quiet, and Jack (Pro Shop) was welcoming and kind enough to say “go out whenever you’re ready”. Excellent start! The course was playing short, which is fine for the winter. Tees were forward and played from actual tee boxes (not artificial). For February, they were perfectly flat and acceptable. Fairways are (all told) in excellent condition with tight lies. Essex clay will require constant ball cleaning, but that’s par for the course in Winter. Greens ran ‘relatively’ true and were consistent. It’s not Augusta, so manage your expectations. The course layout is interesting with some reductions to the length of par 5s, giving good opportunities to capitalise. Mid distance par 3s and manageable par 4s also make this course an enjoyable and not overly difficult place to score low, if you’re on song? Greens staff have done an excellent job in tending to the property, providing an all round totally satisfactory golf course and conditions. Buggy/Trolley paths are excellent and protect the course in wet weather. No boggy areas from Green to Tee, which is a remarkable achievement. Well done! Summing up…. My overall experience exceeded my expectations. I like to think I give an honest appraisal. I recommend playing the course and I’ll certainly be making it a more frequent venue in the Spring and Summer. Thanks again to Jack in the Pro Shop. Nice guy and nice chat afterwards. Cheers. Buggy paths are a great addition.
Course was in good shape considering the weather we've been having at the moment..
Paths were great for buggy use as fairways are still a little wet.. Overall it's was a fun to play . Bunkers needs some TLC, but apart from that it was great value for money and a pleasure to play...
nice in summer, a thinkers course
i believe that Mr Player was flown over for a round when the course opened and told them that there were too many bunkers. many have been removed but there are still a lot. you. need to plot your way around to avoid them, which is fun in its way. the first five holes make a difficult start but easier holes to end on. the 9th hole is my favourite as it offers a choice of lines, as all proper holes should.
not a course for above 15 handicappers, i would say. plot your way around
pace of play here can be very slow at times and not just at peak hours. course can also be pretty heavy.
excellent value for money if played in summer, midweek evenins
