Great course
We were a bit apprehensive when we booked due to the reviews from last year. Fortunately the course had vastly improved from then. The greens still need a bit more tlc but apart from that I have no other qualms. Hopefully when the course is more established, a clubhouse will naturally follow. Keep up the good work and good luck
Great Value for Money
Great course, great value for money. Would recommend
Another great day, greens really coming on,fantastic views and fairways, keep it up frodsham.
Played today another fantastic afternoon, greens looking good Greenkeeper are working hard to bring the course to a high standard great value for the money. Well done all involved
Avoid this course & save your money
I’ve played this course over 10 times over the past 3 years. The first time it was in great condition and one of the better courses in the area so decided to play again. The 3rd or 4th time of playing there were two senior members behind who we got chatting too, they said they’d been members for 20+ years and were angered that the club had changed ownership and was going downhill with the owner taking money out of the club. Clubhouse sold to become a nursery, no pro shop, fairways in reasonable condition to be fair, but the greens are appalling to the extent that the fairways would be better to putt on. Bunkers are meant to be a hazard for golfers but their bunkers are in the literal sense, large rocks left in there. It very much feels like the club is close to shutting down and that the owner isn’t interested in the upkeep of the course. Would expect the land will be sold for houses in the near future. A real shame, don’t like talking down on courses but this is a shambles at present and wouldn’t recommend spending £20 when there are much nicer courses with dedicated green keepers nearby.
6 Handicapper, play once a week or more.
A great round.
Played at Frodsham today. A great picturesque course. The owners and staff are working hard keeping the course up to a high standard. Cant understand why certain people are putting the course down. Fantastic value for money and we'll certainly going back soon!
Still great value at weekends £19 (and even much less during the week!)
Two of us - both ex County Players - played last Wednesday, sure parts of the course could have been better, but for the cheap price, particularly for a private course, what does one expect?... Overall, with probably amongst the best fairways around and the wonderful views and surrounds, it would be difficult to find much better value! You can see that work is still continuing regarding - after 'vandalism' - improving the course condition; some of the landscaping embankments are now taking shape and will enhance the good features of some of the holes, and a lot of (probably unseen) work is being spent on the greens which were severely damaged (whilst these have been, and are still being, treated, and the new growth is only just starting to come through, it has been 'impossible' to cut them short so they have been slow to putt on! For two 'crippled' old-boys, in our 70's, even given the conditions, we played pretty well, managing six gross birdies between us - so, when I read some of the adverse reviews (by 'apparently' good players) it somewhat makes me question the 'truthfulness' of them. We have played Frodsham a lot over the years, and, God willing, will continue to do so - here's looking forward to seeing the better course conditions shortly, particularly now the rains, and seed growth, are coming and the greens can then be cut shorter. P.S. Another great day out - Thanks!
Nice Father's day
Really enjoyed the course today great scenery and layout
Could be better.
The course in general wasn't in a bad condition by any means. UNTIL you got to the green well id of rather putted on the fairway than the greens they are atrocious. Layout is abit weird as this is the first time ive played the course, no map or even a little layout on the back of the score card. Between holes 7 and 8 is an absolute mission. This doesn't make it a bad course it's got potential but from what I've read and heard that potential was fulfilled in the past and now its on a decline. Which is a shame because it could be a boss course if looked after.
Worst golf experience in 20 years
We arrived to find that Frodsham have apparently sold their clubhouse. So no facilities, toilets, nothing. Just a portacabin giving away scorecards and selling bottles of warm water. They didn't accept payment cards either - just cash we were told.
When I asked if there were toilets anywhere, i was told that the 'cowshed' didn't open until 11am? I didn't ask him to elaborate.
We'd tried to book 2 golf buggy's, 4 days in advance. The club don't have an active phone line since there isn't even a pro shop. So it took 5 emails to confirm a booking.
When we arrived, there were 2 buggy's available and we were told that one of them was smoking heavily (petrol engine) and wasn't advisable to take out. What was even more amusing was that another 4 ball arrived directly after us who had also reserved buggy's, but there were none left!
We then started playing and the experience deteriorated.
The tees were basically mown squares and not tee boxes, with no official hole yardage markers. Combined with this there were no 200, 150 or 100 markers anywhere. It was all guesswork
The bunkers were basically firm mud. No sand. And some were covered in weeds.
The greens were absolutely horrendous - the worst I have ever experienced. Different grasses. Different lengths. Sometimes bald. Bobbling everywhere - really, really bad. Without being harsh, they were pitch and putt standard as opposed to municipal standard or indeed private golf club standard.
It took almost 5 hours to finish the round (and this is a relatively short course), waiting 5 minutes on every tee. And with the risk of sounding like a golf snob, there were 4-ball hackers everywhere, wearing all sorts of dresscode.
It was one of the most depressing golf experiences I've ever had. I'll give it 12 months and this golf club will either be a housing estate (i suspect the owner must be holding out for an offer), or (with any luck) under new ownership.
An absolute shambles.
Great day,course getting better,,
Value for money
Great value
Relaxed friendly course each week plays better great
Value for golf you won’t find a better value course for the rates they charge at weekend
Golf day
"Had such a great game at Frodsham Golf club today the person Paul who runs the course is great and has the course looking amazin just need the greens looking abit more better with putting difficulty but once they get to standard I love the course and have recommended to all my friends and family"
So bad it should be closed
Played here over the years and always been a good knock. Haven’t been for about 2 1/2 years when I pulled up today to see no club house, so sad… also when walked to the 1st tee I was flabbergasted how bad the greens are and how the course as gone to bits there was no flags on the 1st hole and 2nd and walked off at hole 5. I can say I will never go back here and someone has drained all the goodness out of this course and shouldn’t be open the condition of the greens are unplanned. All’s I can say is WOW so so sad
Awful
Awful greens, overcrowded. Best part of the day was leaving
frodsham
first time ive been no clubhouse but thats ok. Guy giving cards out was very helpful and friendly. Couldn't believe how quiet it was hardly anyone on it. Course was ok but....greens were awful...need a gallon of water on them and the bunkers need a bit more care. Main issue is the signage if u have never played its hard to find your way round.
