Course Highlights
Greatwood delivers outstanding value with well-maintained fairways, greens, and challenging island holes that stand out among Houston-area courses. Water hazards and strategic pin placements create an engaging layout that keeps golfers returning.

About

Holes 18
Type Public
Par 72
Length 6836 yards
Slope 1308
Rating 72.3

Greatwood is known for its white sand bunkers and impressive par 3s, three of which play right at or over 200 yards. The 1989 Carlton Gipson design features elevated tees and greens that sandwich plush fairways and are contoured with mounds.

The 434-yard par 4 hole 5 is one difficult par, featuring a fairways loaded with bunkers and involves water on the approach. No. 18 goes 576, yards. While the tee shot is fairly standard, the second shot must land short of a plateau and might involve a blind approach shot if placed too far to the left. The intimidating approach plays into a green surrounded by water on three sides.

Getting there : From Hwy. 59 south, turn left on Crab River Rd., then make a left onto the other side of Hwy. 59. Look for Greatwood Pkwy. and make another left when you get there.

Sanded Greens 04/16

When I booked my round I did not know that the course was in process of sanding all of its greens.

The course was almost empty, but the greens were unplayable. 1/2 inch of sand in some spots.

I'm glad that Greatwood is finally doing real maintenance to their course after 15 years of neglect. I would prefer that they announce major projects.

Nice for $40

Greens were in bad shape. Half of the holes were cart path only even though it was bone dry. As you went to hole 1 it stated 90 degree rule.

GPS alarm is annoying as you approach stop signs and underpasses

New Golf Carts - TERRIBLE

They have gps guided golf carts that shut down and automatically stop on the paths. The cart stopped at least 10 times and I wasn’t even off the cart path They constantly chime! It’s so annoying. I won’t be back until it gets fixed.

Not worth it or deserving of patronage

Round had red flags before even setting foot on the course. Course manager/owner was rude. Booked a tee time for 2 and politely asked the day before to add a third. Was told no, we would have to re book our 815 am time for 340 pm if we wanted to add a third and we would be paired with 2 other golfers because they were so busy. This was a lie as we were NOT paired with anyone and it was not busy. Secondly, the addition of GPS on the cart was annoying af. Cart would shut off if you got 6 feet from the path, and would not start again until you backed up. Constantly beeping if you go 8 mph instead of 6. Greens were horrible. Old divots everywhere that had been there so long unrepaired, that they turned into pockmarksl littering the greens. Hole placement changes so shoddy they had rings of sand around previous hole placements on most greens. Would not recommend and will not be coming back to a course ran but such a rude person. And they have no military discount either. FYI River Pointe in Richmond TX owned by this guy too so that one will not be getting any more of my patronage either.

GPS needs correcting

The GPS in the cart was not calibrated properly. The cart would shut down on the cart path stating we were out of bounds. I had to abandon the cart on the cart path and walk since it would not let me go forwards or backwards due to the improper settings. I would play the course again as long as the GPs is disconnected

Cow pasture with greens?

First time playing the course. If Greatwood was great when it first opened it’s Mediocre-wood now.

Practice area was poorly maintained; some fairways were open dirt and unplayable. The greens were the only well maintained aspect of the course.

Can’t say much about staff as we never saw any on the course after a fairly terse greeting from the Starter. At a few points we could have used a marshal to speed up play (4.5 hours; guy playing said the say before was 5); we waited on every hole; while having the threesome behind us hit into us on several holes.

Given the price they charged I was not expecting much and in that sense I was still underwhelmed. Essentially they are comparable to tracks charging 1/2 as much.

Needless to say the next weekend my club is closed for tournament play I will seek out another course.
