Course Highlights
Greatwood delivers outstanding value with well-maintained fairways, greens, and challenging island holes that stand out among Houston-area courses. Water hazards and strategic pin placements create an engaging layout that keeps golfers returning.

About

Par 72
Length 6836 yards
Slope 1308
Rating 72.3

Greatwood is known for its white sand bunkers and impressive par 3s, three of which play right at or over 200 yards. The 1989 Carlton Gipson design features elevated tees and greens that sandwich plush fairways and are contoured with mounds.

The 434-yard par 4 hole 5 is one difficult par, featuring a fairways loaded with bunkers and involves water on the approach. No. 18 goes 576, yards. While the tee shot is fairly standard, the second shot must land short of a plateau and might involve a blind approach shot if placed too far to the left. The intimidating approach plays into a green surrounded by water on three sides.

Getting there : From Hwy. 59 south, turn left on Crab River Rd., then make a left onto the other side of Hwy. 59. Look for Greatwood Pkwy. and make another left when you get there.

Good and bad

Overall, I really like playing here. Major reason is convenience, we live about 15 min away. The greens, overall, are great. The fairways are hit and miss. Some bare spots, but that’s just me being picky honestly. The back nine is a little more challenging and I’m the 2 times I’ve played there… the front nine moved along very smooth but everything gets slow on the back. Not the courses fault, some people just need more lessons lol. In my opinion, it is the first track I look for tee times, so my preferred course living here in Sugar Land.

Ok

For the price to play at this course, I thought it should have been in better shape.

Great layout

The course has a great layout a lot of water and play. It i needs some tender loving care. Greens are in great shape but the fairways grass was good. But they need to be filled in with dirt because it’s very dangerous to ride down the Fairway

Good course

Showing its age for sure…the greens needed attention and were rock hard. But the course was good for the price. My family had a good time.

Deceptively tough

This was my first time playing Greatwood. It was a lot of fun and the starter was very friendly and gave my group some useful advice for the course. Some of the fairways are tight but what really increased the difficulty level was many of the greens were elevated and small. Very challenging but a great place to work on your short game.

Decent Course

Played a twilight round and barely finished. Pace of play pretty slow. Fairways were pretty hard, probably due to the lack of rain though. Greens were decent, very small and fast. Would recommend trying out if you’re looking for a cheaper round. Isn’t worth your time if you’re paying over 40 bucks though in my opinion.

Fairways and roughs hurting from drought

I hadn’t played Greatwood since July when I got caught by not one but two heavy showers. The course looked as if it hadn’t rained since. Huge cracks from clay drying out. You need to move your ball out of them. Greens were devilishly good…fast with the big slopes on 6, 9, 10, 17 and 18.
