About
Greatwood is known for its white sand bunkers and impressive par 3s, three of which play right at or over 200 yards. The 1989 Carlton Gipson design features elevated tees and greens that sandwich plush fairways and are contoured with mounds.
The 434-yard par 4 hole 5 is one difficult par, featuring a fairways loaded with bunkers and involves water on the approach. No. 18 goes 576, yards. While the tee shot is fairly standard, the second shot must land short of a plateau and might involve a blind approach shot if placed too far to the left. The intimidating approach plays into a green surrounded by water on three sides.
Getting there : From Hwy. 59 south, turn left on Crab River Rd., then make a left onto the other side of Hwy. 59. Look for Greatwood Pkwy. and make another left when you get there.

Sad
Great course when it opened 30 years ago, but every time I go now, the course just gets worse and worse. Most fairways are burned to a crisp. Greens have been shrunk to a third the size when it opened. Tee boxes are scraggly and pathetic. Bunkers aren’t maintained and so are more like hard pan than sand. What greens are left are in pretty good shape. Course obviously can’t generate enough cash to keep it up. Hate to say it, but don’t waste your time or money.
Not worth the price
Fairways were in horrible shape on most holes. Greens were good on maybe 6 holes
Greens looked great as did men's tee boxes. I played with my husband and looks like the women's tee box never gets watered as does the rest of the course. It looked like due to length of weeds around greens that it had not been mowed in at least 3-4 days. Course looked very sad and tired ...sadly! Used to play here in it's hey day.
Good course, hard fairway and bunker
Overall, a pleasant experience. Good weather, friendly staffs, good course set-up, with challenges to enjoy. Only that the fairway was stone hard, similar to bunkers. We could not hit good approach shots with back spins due to the hard surfaces. Green speeds are uneven, where some were good speed, others were slow.

Overall, the course was good. Greens are decent, fairways are good. The only issues I had with this place were the pace of play, wayyyy to slow and the kitchen to get a couple dogs on the turn. Who closes their kitchen at 3:30pm? Besides those two things I’d recommend.
Course dried out nicely
I hadn’t played in six days due to a couple of episodes of heavy rainfall but I didn’t want to wait until a Friday on a holiday weekend. I took a chance teeing off at 4pm but there were no undue delays and I finished up before 8pm about 20 minutes before sundown. Greens have gotten very good and the fairways had plenty of roll out. I did lose a white air bud on the ninth hole…oh well. Can’t wait to go back.
Decent
Ground was rock solid most places, took about 10 attempts to find a spot my tee would go in the ground. Greens aren’t consistent and the fairways were not well kept. Would be a great course if it was taken care of properly.
