About
Greatwood is known for its white sand bunkers and impressive par 3s, three of which play right at or over 200 yards. The 1989 Carlton Gipson design features elevated tees and greens that sandwich plush fairways and are contoured with mounds.
The 434-yard par 4 hole 5 is one difficult par, featuring a fairways loaded with bunkers and involves water on the approach. No. 18 goes 576, yards. While the tee shot is fairly standard, the second shot must land short of a plateau and might involve a blind approach shot if placed too far to the left. The intimidating approach plays into a green surrounded by water on three sides.
Getting there : From Hwy. 59 south, turn left on Crab River Rd., then make a left onto the other side of Hwy. 59. Look for Greatwood Pkwy. and make another left when you get there.

The ground was so dry that you couldn't even get a tee in the ground. They do not water the course.
Very poor shape for the money
Worst golf course I’ve ever played
It is clear that this is a great layout but there is virtually no maintenance. The grass is mostly dead with many bare spots. Save your money and play somewhere else where they take care of the course.
Extremely poor condition
I say this still flying high from the best round of golf in my life. The course is in bad shape. The greens were OK, but how on earth can you justify charging more than $20 to play a round of golf here? Clean up your tee boxes. It was peppered with peoples broken tees likely dating back to the housing market collapse. I saw rakes next to the bunkers but I couldn't figure out what they were used for. My suggestion is to find a different course to play until they lower their prices and/or get their act together.
Stole my GPS distance device
I enjoyed the course. Unfortunately I left my GPS device Bushnell Phantom on my cart. I called the next day and it was not reported as recovered. I can only surmise the cart people are not honest.
Great Course Severely Neglected
Incredibly sad that this once gem in the Sugar Land golf community has been allowed to decay in the hands of the López Brothers.
The greens are shocking, most bunkers removed, cart-paths are collapsed or crumbling, carts are ancient, pro shop has no stock, once good bar is closed. The Greatwood community would do well to buy this course from the infamous brothers, revive it and watch property values soar further.
Sad
Great course when it opened 30 years ago, but every time I go now, the course just gets worse and worse. Most fairways are burned to a crisp. Greens have been shrunk to a third the size when it opened. Tee boxes are scraggly and pathetic. Bunkers aren’t maintained and so are more like hard pan than sand. What greens are left are in pretty good shape. Course obviously can’t generate enough cash to keep it up. Hate to say it, but don’t waste your time or money.
Not worth the price
Fairways were in horrible shape on most holes. Greens were good on maybe 6 holes
Greens looked great as did men's tee boxes. I played with my husband and looks like the women's tee box never gets watered as does the rest of the course. It looked like due to length of weeds around greens that it had not been mowed in at least 3-4 days. Course looked very sad and tired ...sadly! Used to play here in it's hey day.
Good course, hard fairway and bunker
Overall, a pleasant experience. Good weather, friendly staffs, good course set-up, with challenges to enjoy. Only that the fairway was stone hard, similar to bunkers. We could not hit good approach shots with back spins due to the hard surfaces. Green speeds are uneven, where some were good speed, others were slow.
