Greatwood Golf Club
About
Greatwood is known for its white sand bunkers and impressive par 3s, three of which play right at or over 200 yards. The 1989 Carlton Gipson design features elevated tees and greens that sandwich plush fairways and are contoured with mounds.
The 434-yard par 4 hole 5 is one difficult par, featuring a fairways loaded with bunkers and involves water on the approach. No. 18 goes 576, yards. While the tee shot is fairly standard, the second shot must land short of a plateau and might involve a blind approach shot if placed too far to the left. The intimidating approach plays into a green surrounded by water on three sides.
Getting there : From Hwy. 59 south, turn left on Crab River Rd., then make a left onto the other side of Hwy. 59. Look for Greatwood Pkwy. and make another left when you get there.

Needs Improvement
fairways were dried up and cracked, Greens were sanded and were not smoothed out enough too much sand. some tee boxes need manicuring. the course overall was not good. we did see a lot of workers cutting trees and working on improvement.
.
Mosquitos, Sand Traps, and Greens all BAD
Just about got carried away even with Deep Woods Off. With things opening up, someone should go rake the traps, and greens are so bad hard to line up even a 2 foot putt
Poor service
Been going here for quite some time basically because it is close. The greens are in very poor conditions and the staff is for the most part very unprofessional. Last round I played they started changing the pins out in the middle of a Friday afternoon around 1 o’clock. Who does that?
Local Sugar Land Golfer
Greens were in extremely poor condition, but rest of course was good.
Greens are in bad shape
First time playing the course. Layout was nice, but the greens were in very bad shape. Recently sanded but that wasn’t the only issue. I wouldn’t recommend playing this course with greens like that for the price.
Room to Grow
This was my second time playing this course. The first time it was windy and cold and had just rained and the course was soggy and muddy. The second time it was dry and calm. The greens on the front had been sanded and not in good shape. The cart paths need a lot of work and so do some of the fairways. Most of the bunkers were hard pan and not worth hitting out of. I did like the fact that course management was key to playing here. You can’t grip it and rip it on all par 4’s. The water hazards and bunkers are strategically located and make you execute exact shots. The staff was friendly and accommodating.
Good course
The first green still needs a lot of work but most the other ones were in pretty good shape…. Over all I enjoyed the round…
Good Course
The course was fun, only issue is that the greens were in bad shape. Not sure based on the condition of the course if it's worth the money I spent.
$20 greens for $60.
Before you play a round at this club. Make sure you see the practice green. That is what the greens will look like for most of the course. They also have spots that are pure mud, surrounded by spots that are rock hard. On Saturdays they only allow eight minutes between each teatime which is not enough for smooth pace of play. I will not go back at that price.
Needs some TLC
Not sure if it was freeze related or what, but the greens were in tough shape and several fairways were roped off. Hopefully they will get it back in shape.
Usually a nice course with Great Greens
Home 1 and some others had really bad greens. Unusual for this course. Maybe it’s the Winter freeze. Hopefully they fix it soon and get it back to where the
course usually was before.
Great layout on this course
Not now—
Okay for the price—
I had a fun time because of the company and the happy hour.
Club house is built when, staff is friendly and talkative.
Course is laughable. We reasoned why the course is so neglected, municipality or management?! We didn’t know!!
Greens need to be plugged, sands need care, fairways need care, tee-boxes need adjusting. I see potential, but is 5 caring staff members away from a successful course.
