Greatwood Golf Club
About
Greatwood is known for its white sand bunkers and impressive par 3s, three of which play right at or over 200 yards. The 1989 Carlton Gipson design features elevated tees and greens that sandwich plush fairways and are contoured with mounds.
The 434-yard par 4 hole 5 is one difficult par, featuring a fairways loaded with bunkers and involves water on the approach. No. 18 goes 576, yards. While the tee shot is fairly standard, the second shot must land short of a plateau and might involve a blind approach shot if placed too far to the left. The intimidating approach plays into a green surrounded by water on three sides.
Getting there : From Hwy. 59 south, turn left on Crab River Rd., then make a left onto the other side of Hwy. 59. Look for Greatwood Pkwy. and make another left when you get there.

Covid-19 Golf
I am cannot believe the irresponsibility of this course. They are telling you that you have to share a cart with someone you don’t live with, and risk being infected with COVID-19 or walk. I will not return to this course until they use common sense and think about the safety of their customers.
I miss Course Marshals!
Guys are driving on the fringe of greens, backs of greens, 20ft from greens.
Loud Music! Ok look, I get it; music has become somewhat acceptable, but not for one cart to play loud music for an entire foursome.
Trash. Looks like no one had been out to pick up for a few days.
Pacing and play management. I got cut off by a group of four at #10 who inserted themselves to play a winner takes all to settle their round. Everyone took a mulligan from the tee box.
From enjoyable to average
Overall the course and setting are pretty good for a public course in Houston. The course is pretty well maintained, and bunkers maintained, greens in good shape.
Good = You can get your money's worth out the course playing from the tips. Greens are well maintained, and the bunkers played well. Overall it is a very pleasant and challenging course.
Needs Improvement =
#1 Management - The only course marshal I saw was @ the #1 tee box, and his compadre who very likely could have been the course manager had a snarky comment about having a cart ready for me at the turn. If youre ins customer service and want to keep patrons, witty jibs are not advised. I finished 18 walking by the way.
#2 Marshals - I know it is not easy to get marshals out, but this was a Saturday during peak playtime, and I never saw one. Here is why this is a ding on this course. A - 90* rule violations everywhere, but more than that, I saw carts within 20ft of greens. There are dried and rutted tire paths on protected areas, some on the backside fo greens. B - Stereos! I am not sure when it happened, but somewhere in time, personal stereos became acceptable, ok fine. However, one cart playing loud music for the foursome is the result of a lack of course marshals presence and reminders of the rules. C - Group Order. At the turn, a foursome inserted themselves into the order on #10 for a best of three-holes playoffs to settle a bet from the 18 they just finished. I know this because I had ample time to listen as they each took mulligans from the tee box.
#3 Teeboxes - Seriously, you guys owe me $10 for a bag of tees. While most are in good shape, I might as well try to stick a tee into a gravel parking lot as dry and hard as they were when I played.
#4 Trash - last but not least, several of the holes either did not have trash receptacles or were overflowing. It appeared to me that no one had been out for a few days.
Not bad
The course was dry and hard and the greens were so so. The bunkers need some work but overall it was ok. They need to water more.
Greenskeeping needs serious work
Always loved the course layout at Greatwood. Back nine is tough to play. However, the overall upkeep on the course almost looks non existent. Greens are awful and fairways need serious repair. Get this course back to what it used to be.
Hot Golf
Course was in good condition. Most greens rolled true, some had spots, but generally didn't affect putting unless you were in the 10% that was mediocre. Always fun to play at Greatwood!
Nice course
Worth the money. Cart girl came around 3 times during play. Staff was friendly. Course was in good condition, greens ran true and are an 7 out of 10 scale.
Incredibly slow play
First time on this course. Great layout. Greens rolled well.
5 1/2 round. There was a 5some two groups ahead of us that played extremely slow. We called the clubhouse twice to ask for a Marshall to come speak with them, which he did. But nothing changed. The 5some never split up and the pace actually slowed down after the Marshall talked to them. Who lets a 5 some play on a Saturday?
We will most likely play it again, but not on a weekend and only if it’s a hot deal.
Great Wood gc
Fairways and bunkers were in great condition, greens were recently sanded but rolled true. If you haven't played this course you need to. You'll enjoy it.
Quality product.....
Worth the price we got with the golf now hot deal. Greens need work but rolled true at least. Bunkers have always been dirt so would like to see quality sand in them one day. Pace was good as we played as a 2 some on a saturday. Cart girl was on point as we saw her a lot and starter was polite and acomidatiing.
Nice course layout
Enjoyed layout, but greens need work. Will play again
