Greatwood Golf Club
About
Greatwood is known for its white sand bunkers and impressive par 3s, three of which play right at or over 200 yards. The 1989 Carlton Gipson design features elevated tees and greens that sandwich plush fairways and are contoured with mounds.
The 434-yard par 4 hole 5 is one difficult par, featuring a fairways loaded with bunkers and involves water on the approach. No. 18 goes 576, yards. While the tee shot is fairly standard, the second shot must land short of a plateau and might involve a blind approach shot if placed too far to the left. The intimidating approach plays into a green surrounded by water on three sides.
Getting there : From Hwy. 59 south, turn left on Crab River Rd., then make a left onto the other side of Hwy. 59. Look for Greatwood Pkwy. and make another left when you get there.

Dated and in need of an overhaul
The curse and club aren't aging well. Decor in the clubhouse is dated, dark and dusty. Staff at the check in counter was very friendly, but that was the highlight of the day. The course was in serious need of TLC, especially the greens which were just bare, bumpy and generally in pretty terrible shape.
I Should Have Known Better
Most of the greens were rough and very patchy. The greens that were full were nice and had some speed to them. Course is in need of some water!! Tee boxes were hard like most of the course and you could barely get a tee in a couple of them.
All that wasn’t the problem…. The lack of a Marshall or a Marshall who knows their job is the issue. Pace of play was horrible!!! 4.5hours for 12 holes and it was so backed up we just quit!! I counted 2 sixsomes on the way in along with foursomes and twosomes mixed in!! When we passed the Marshall he said he just broke up an sixsome into a 4 & 2 some and pace should pick up. On the 13th hole when we quit there were 2 foursomes waiting to tee off and a foursome on the tee box!!!
When I attempted to speak with the young lady in the Pro Shop, I might as well have been speaking a foreign language!!
It’s my understanding the owner used to own a driving range and a par 3 course…. If that’s the case, it explains how it’s being run! Needless to say, won’t be back! Spend a little more somewhere else and you’ll be happier!
Layout is fun
The greens were in rough shape. Pace of play was good for an 8am tee time. Staff is very good.
Good Layout - Terrible Condition
Greens were awful. Dry, bumpy, sand. Needs love. Fun place to play, but price doesn’t match the value
Course Review unedited
I have played at several golf courses in the greater Houston area. Greatwood Golf Club is top 3 in almost a dozen courses in and around Houston. My son and I played a 6pm tee time. Unfortunately, we were playing behind a walker. A very fast paced walker; the weather and holes distracted us, and didn’t notice the lost time. To our dismay, we were only able to get to 9 of the 18 holes. I definitely would recommend this course and am looking forward to our next game at Greatwood Golf Club and hopefully get a chance to try the food options.
Green are in terrible shape
Course itself is ok. Pace of play needs to be reviewed and someone needs to be on top of the people that delay the game
Many rounds at Greatwood
I have played many rounds at Greatwood over the past 25 years. In those years, the greens have rarely been in this bad of conditions. Greatwood has very low green fees compared to many other courses which is nice but hopefully they will improve the greens. The cart was well charged. Fairways were in good shape. Pro shop girl was not very friendly. I love Greatwood and enjoy taking friends and family there to play but hope the greens improve soon. I will be back in a week or two to see how the greens are playing.
Great Value Course
Great course for $62 even has GPS carts with speakers and there’s not many public courses you can get a tee time for at 6 am.
Greens in poor shape
For the price I expect grass on greens, but most holes had more bare spots than grass. In turn was difficult to have consistent ball speed.
Greens and Carts
Greens were a mess! Hardly any grass. It was 90 degree rule but the carts wouldn’t get off the cart path without it dying. Awful. Someone needs to fix the carts.
This course needs love!!
This course needs love from the tee boxes to the. Greens. Tees are hard as a rock and none are level. Fairways might be the best part of the course. Bunkers are hard as a rock and watch for rocks and clay. Greens are in poor condition and do not expect a true roll. Look at the practice greens for free and that’s the most of the 18. Very patchy!! If not patchy loaded with weeds!. Pace of play is horrible. 5hr round on a Sunday. Do not pay the 60-70 a round it’s not worth it. Sad they let this place go
Small Greens
Overall the course is fair, some of the fairways were really hard, the greens are smaller than average and bumpy.
Monday afternoon at Greatwood
Course condition is fair. The greens seem to have been recently aerated, making it somewhat difficult to read. Otherwise it’s reasonable value for money.
Great layout
Fairways, boxes good shape. Greens are horrible If they get them corrected would play this course a lot.
Improving in the right direction
Not too bad for a Saturday, although pace of play could be better as we followed a slow threesome. Biggest issue was that the cart GPS system was messed up and kept indicating that we were out of bounds when we were on the cart path, many times just next to the tee box or green. Cart had to be switched after front nine, which improved both pace of play and enjoyment.
Greens are still bumpy but not too bad given time of year. Fairways and tee boxes were decent.
Possibly going back soon
The course was great.
The Greens were patchy Sandy and crappy..
The carts had hole visual and green layout.
That was awesome.
