Greatwood Golf Club
About
Greatwood is known for its white sand bunkers and impressive par 3s, three of which play right at or over 200 yards. The 1989 Carlton Gipson design features elevated tees and greens that sandwich plush fairways and are contoured with mounds.
The 434-yard par 4 hole 5 is one difficult par, featuring a fairways loaded with bunkers and involves water on the approach. No. 18 goes 576, yards. While the tee shot is fairly standard, the second shot must land short of a plateau and might involve a blind approach shot if placed too far to the left. The intimidating approach plays into a green surrounded by water on three sides.
Getting there : From Hwy. 59 south, turn left on Crab River Rd., then make a left onto the other side of Hwy. 59. Look for Greatwood Pkwy. and make another left when you get there.

Meh
Scratch golfer and just played a 5 hour round. Pace of play wasn't a huge deal, considering I was in a fivesome. Don't even get me started on how mismanaged the tee times were. Course conditions were pretty frustrating. The greens were running so fast the slopes were unplayable. They had some holes cut in the middle of slopes where if you missed your putt/chip it'd roll 10+ ft away. Chipping around the green was impossible because of this. As others have said, the aprons are quite grown in, which isn't a huge deal until you get to certain holes that require long irons in. I hit a great tee shot on 14 and had 150 yds in. pushed my iron 5 yds right of the pin and had a chip down a gigantic slope which rolled all the way off the green. The greens being so small wouldn't be such a huge deal if the slopes weren't playing so severe. Not to mention the crabgrass growing all over the greens making you play plinko every other hole. Just a rough outing. I got a deal and paid $43 plus an $8 bucket (insane considering they give you like 25 balls). If I paid $20 more for a regular fee I would've been even more dissapointed. Used to come play here a bit more often when I was younger but the conditions have gone downhill. Wouldn't recommend for the price, doesn't play well. I'd rather play Sharpstown for $20 cause at least there I get what I'm paying for (with better greens tbh).
Not worth $60
The good. Staff was great. Friendly and very helpful.
The bad. Half the coarse is cart patch only due to very poor drainage. Cart paths will rattle your clubs out of the bag they are so broken
The ugly. The greens at one time were bigger and in better shape. They let the apron grow in so much around that they are postage stamps.
This place and sienna are the exact same when it comes to the shape the coarse ie in and value for the dollar. hopefully they will be sold to someone Not worth $60 not worth the drive. Won’t be back
Best course
Tough course love it won’t find better but they have drop zone for you if your not that good so don’t be scared of it makes it fun to play for the non advanced golfers as well.
Gif you like to play serious golf
I used to come here when I first moved here cause it was cheap but it needed a little TLC.The bunkers were unplayable and the greens were not great….Fast forward 1 yr….I finally got a chance to come back and man was I impressed! I always loved the layout (no two holes are the same) but they put the TLC into the course that was needed(they added GPS in the carts) bunkers are good and the greens were fast and true.Hole number 10 is one of the prettiest holes around(and challenging if you don’t hit the fairway or if your short) My only hang up is the greens are very small and too small for the par 5s.But other than that great course!
Cart path only
To wet to drive on the grass. Bad conditions. Not the fault of the golf management.
Rating our experience
My initial assessment was unfavorable. We received no greeting upon entering the clubhouse, and the receptionist's demeanor was both rude and unprofessional. While we considered leaving, we ultimately decided to proceed with our round.
The course layout was exceptional. However, recent rainfall adversely affected our pace of play. Despite being unable to complete the round, we enjoyed our time and plan to return to finish the course.
Pace of play
Pace of play could be better need marshals on weekdays as well to keep pace of play or something. Lots of seniors at this place who are very slow think there playing for money so they take it to serious when they are not even good. No lie watching them hit like three to four times just to get it to the green then take ten minutes for all four of them to putt. An it’s always 8–12 of them in front of you so it’s not like you can jump them cause the others are just as slow. 20 min a hole was what we were playing at watching them tee off every hole. Love the course and staff though best staff out of any golf course I have ever played at. Just split these seniors up so groups behind can pass them easier.
