Greatwood Golf Club
About
Greatwood is known for its white sand bunkers and impressive par 3s, three of which play right at or over 200 yards. The 1989 Carlton Gipson design features elevated tees and greens that sandwich plush fairways and are contoured with mounds.
The 434-yard par 4 hole 5 is one difficult par, featuring a fairways loaded with bunkers and involves water on the approach. No. 18 goes 576, yards. While the tee shot is fairly standard, the second shot must land short of a plateau and might involve a blind approach shot if placed too far to the left. The intimidating approach plays into a green surrounded by water on three sides.
Getting there : From Hwy. 59 south, turn left on Crab River Rd., then make a left onto the other side of Hwy. 59. Look for Greatwood Pkwy. and make another left when you get there.

Great Value Course
Great course for $62 even has GPS carts with speakers and there’s not many public courses you can get a tee time for at 6 am.
Greens in poor shape
For the price I expect grass on greens, but most holes had more bare spots than grass. In turn was difficult to have consistent ball speed.
Greens and Carts
Greens were a mess! Hardly any grass. It was 90 degree rule but the carts wouldn’t get off the cart path without it dying. Awful. Someone needs to fix the carts.
This course needs love!!
This course needs love from the tee boxes to the. Greens. Tees are hard as a rock and none are level. Fairways might be the best part of the course. Bunkers are hard as a rock and watch for rocks and clay. Greens are in poor condition and do not expect a true roll. Look at the practice greens for free and that’s the most of the 18. Very patchy!! If not patchy loaded with weeds!. Pace of play is horrible. 5hr round on a Sunday. Do not pay the 60-70 a round it’s not worth it. Sad they let this place go
Small Greens
Overall the course is fair, some of the fairways were really hard, the greens are smaller than average and bumpy.
Monday afternoon at Greatwood
Course condition is fair. The greens seem to have been recently aerated, making it somewhat difficult to read. Otherwise it’s reasonable value for money.
Great layout
Fairways, boxes good shape. Greens are horrible If they get them corrected would play this course a lot.
Improving in the right direction
Not too bad for a Saturday, although pace of play could be better as we followed a slow threesome. Biggest issue was that the cart GPS system was messed up and kept indicating that we were out of bounds when we were on the cart path, many times just next to the tee box or green. Cart had to be switched after front nine, which improved both pace of play and enjoyment.
Greens are still bumpy but not too bad given time of year. Fairways and tee boxes were decent.
Possibly going back soon
The course was great.
The Greens were patchy Sandy and crappy..
The carts had hole visual and green layout.
That was awesome.
Course needs a lot of help on the conditions. Club house seemed old and the people didn’t seem to motivated. Would not play there again until it improved. 18th green was horrible.
Greens in terrible shape
I enjoy the Greatwood course layout. Shorter length and smaller greens allow target practice for short irons.
The hard fairways allow the ball to roll an extra 20 yards!
Hard fairways with little grass helps you improve ball first contact
I’ve played this course many times. The greens were in the worst shape I’ve ever seen them
Much worse than two weeks ago.
A great layout with poor majntenance
Greatwood has great bones. A treat for southwest Houston residents. However, in recent years, this course has been poorly maintained by a new maintenance company that has taken over this course, and Sienna Plantation. Examples of conditions:
1. We couldn’t put our tees into the ground. Insufficient watering has made the tee boxes hard like cement.
2. Greens were bumpy and in bad shape. Size of greens were reduced from years ago (perhaps in an attempt to save money?)
3. Outside of fairways were neglected: no first cut etc.
This is a gem of a layout and I hope a long term strategy of more $$ for maintenance is brought forward or this course will be drought with a downward spiral and downward pressure on its green fee.
Where are the marshals????
Even the best conditions and weather can be ruined by having to wait for the group ahead when the next two holes have no one.
Where are the marshals in charge of keeping golfers moving at the proper pace?
Great outing!
Course was in great condition, except for the greens that were aerated the day before, which I understand is a necessity. The only problem we encountered was our cart would randomly just lock the rear wheels while driving down the cart path and then we would have to cycle the pedals and key to get it going again.
