Dissapointed
Played a society day at manor of groves the course was fine but the meal after was the worst meal I’ve had at a society day and I’ve been to quite a few we were given ham egg and chips there was about ten skinny chips two cold fried eggs and two slices off han that you could see through
This course has blue greens...
The course was okay but was expecting much more. For some strange reason, the ground staff dye the greens a turquoise colour to make them look better?
Due to the damp conditions, this caused my ball, shoes and clothing to become blue... very off-putting and quite honestly ridiculous.
Other than that, I played well.
Fairways!
Overall rating is definitely a 5 (pound for pound). Pace of play was a bit slower than normal, behind a 4 ball but I’m not one to rush and not snobby to slower players (it was bank holiday). I can imagine the course is usually slightly better than today hence the 4 star but I could imagine on a good day it’s lovely everywhere. I didn’t speak to staff so can’t judge, hence the 4 star. 5 for value for money and course layout, I liked the course a lot. Two greens to warm up on as well as a net, didn’t use any other course amenities hence the 4, I could imagine bar and everything else is good too so could probably be a 5.
Well designed course in poor condition.
Very nice looking course designed well. Although it is very short, plenty of dog legs and well placed hazards make it tougher than it looks. Tee boxes were horrible. Was impossible to get a flat stance on most tee boxes and they had been hacked at by numerous players throughout the day. On busy days they should moves them back or forward 5 yards half way through the day. Fairways were in very good nick. Around the green some of the rough and fringe was a bit uneven and of different lengths. Greens were surprisingly quick although their pace seemed a little inconsistent as we made our way round the course. Also the cups had not been cut very evenly with plastic sticking out of some holes and there were some strange ball movements near some holes. For example, what looked like a straight, uphill, 6ft putt made it to 3 inches from the hole then the ball broke 3 cups left. In addition the dog legs all go from left to right, and there are many.
As a caviat, we were the last people out on the course after what was probably a busy day so the greens and the tee boxes had taken a pummelling.
Finally, do not play this course if you live to drive the ball. It is too short and tight to hit any more than 4 drivers the entire round. If you like hitting 5 iron, 9 iron on most holes, this is the course for you.
Great round in the Hertfordshire countryside
Really enjoyable round at Manor of Groves. Greens are well kept and quick and the fairways were open and wide in places to allow for my wild drives that slice off to the right!
We rented Motocaddy electric trollies on site (£12.50 per round), which i'd definitely recommend.
Would play again 100%.
Manor of Groves
Greens firm and speedy, fairways excellent with playable rough.Played here before but massive improvement on the course, good value for money
Great Course
Great course in very good condition. Greens running very true
Corona Golf
Played Manor of Groves first time. Not long but requires good course management. Several tight dig legs. Greens in great shape. Only scored facilities 3 stars as not currently in used due to current restrictions
Good condition in dry spell
Played here for the 2nd time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Course was well kept and greens receptive if a little on the slow side. Although the clubhouse was closed the pro shop was operating. Nice touch was a refreshment tent at the back of the 10th green where a very kind gentleman drove to the clubhouse and brought one of us a Cider which they had run out of at the tent and delivered it on the 11th fairway. Interesting and sometimes challenging course that is well worth a visit.
Do they own a mower?
Fairways very long! Greens in good condition. Overall a nice course especially the older holes the newer ones are vast and exposed. Enjoyable variety though and look forward to trying again in better conditions.
Very good
Friendly members, challenging, well laid out
Don’t park at the clubhouse as no facilities during lockdown and quite a walk to first tee. Park at walkers car park
Highly recommended though
Bang Average
Tee boxes are in awful shape. Greens don’t run true and damage stricken. Really poor layout and generally just a poor course
