A hidden gem!
I really enjoyed the course, every hole offered a different challenge, the fairways and greens were in good order, the rough was well maintained. The clubhouse is modern and staff are extremely welcoming, There is a race horse training track through the course which adds a very unique feel to this club.
Some greens are challenging with the 6th being a par 3 over a big valley onto a two tier green and the 13th being a three tier green giving golfers a tough decision with club selection.
All in all an absolute joy to play from start to finish, will be going back very soon!
What a gem.
Had a great game at Naunton Downs, weather nice and sunny bit cold, not much wind. Course was in great condition nice to be teeing off on proper tee boxes not mats. Was pleasantly surprised as it was my first time playing here, Bit sad to be playing No1 to 5 twice, course layout was great.
Lovely course
Really lovely course and well kept throughout. Just a shame there isn’t a full 18 holes, we played 1-5 again to make it 18.
Interesting Course!
The course was in great condition and as not playing regularly having to play 5 holes twice wasn’t a huge issue. What really let the place down for me was that they have not updated the layout with golf England so we had to spend a load of time talking to them and in the ended voided what would have been a good handicap impacting round - also played havoc with Garmin which again was a shame
Worth a visit but.....
Actually loved this course. For the time of year it is in exceptional condition. Such an amazing location with a number of stand out holes. It was our first visit and we will be returning.
But....it's a 13 hole course so you play 1 - 5 twice. We did not mind this at all but had an issue recording our cards on the golf England app. The app does recognise the 13 hole layout so we could not submitt cards. It's a minor issue but worth knowing.
The horses being trained in the middle of the course is quite a site, if you like horses.
Beautiful course and club house
Great course and the quality of the greens for the time of year was exceptional. It is clear a lot of work is going into the course to make it a top notch venue in the Cotswolds.
Amazing course ruined by it's owner
For those who don't know this course is owned by a well known race horse owner who has decided to obliterate nearly half the course to suit his own horse racing agenda. Holes 14 to 18 (you have to play 1-5 again) are no more and instead you'll find a horse racing track. I read a bit into the story behind this transformation and can only feel sorry for the previous and current members. The clubhouse looks great from the outside, I didn't get a chance to look inside as it was closed by the time we finished. The course was borderline abandoned, which on a Sunday is quite irregular in my eyes. We saw a two ball and 2 one balls on our round. The course itself is in amazing condition and hats off to those who maintain it. Some really good tricky little holes, not too challenging but not too easy. On the whole we enjoyed the course, it's such a shame about what's happened to it over the past few years and I desperately hope something is done to overtun it's fortune
Greens are amazing in November :)
First time playing at Naunton and it does not disappoint. A lovely course with amazing views and greens.
Book a Buggy
If you are classed as a senior you most certainly need a buggy as the course is quite steep in places. Like many courses it has suffered from the drought conditions but that aside it is in pretty poor condition. The tee boxes are rough, uneven and rock hard. The fairways are in need of attention perhaps they need re-seeding and the greens although watered require some attention.
As a low handicap player I was looking forward to playing this course but it disappointed so regrettably would not be looking to return until the course is brought back to a decent condition.
Excellent condition for time of year
I played here on 29 November. The course was excellent. Completely dry fairways, not a single plugged ball, which after the recent rain we've had was quite an achievement.
The greens were cut well, still showing signs of recent hollatine marks, but still ran very well.
The course layout is not overly long or difficult, fairways are wide so you can get away with some fairly wild tee shots.
The few negatives I had was firstly 2 holes were closed completely which I didn't know until I arrived. Although the pro did say I could play 1 and 2 again to make 18.
But the biggest problem was the pace of play. It was pretty busy for winter golf, but every group in front was holding people up. I played as a solo player and it took me 3 1/2 hours for 16 holes. I'd normally do that in about 2 hours. So I was standing waiting on every shot on every hole.
Each group in front eventually let me play through, but there seemed a real reluctance.
But all in all, I really enjoyed this course and would play it again, but I really do wish people would work on their pace of play, or just play people through!
