The initial impression was a bit of a shock as I’ve been looking forward to playing here for a while. You start by parking in a pay and display car park looking at the rather shabby rear of the clubhouse before walking through an archway where it actually starts to look like a golf club. I was thankful to a golfer in the car park who explained I didn’t have to pay and display but I would have if I hadn’t run in to him.

The chap in the pro shop was pretty helpful and gave us some tips on the course, which was great but then I went for a pee and oh sweet Jesus the changing rooms reek so bad that there is a sign on the door to the bar asking people to make sure they shut the door.

The course is hilltop and has some terrific holes, shabby in places but greens were very good and we enjoyed our round. NB be careful on 17 as a beautifully struck driver resulted in me never seeing my ball again!

Afterwards there was no food being cooked so very limited offerings from a cabinet on the bar, which was a shame because we were driving straight to Devon after the round and could’ve done with lunch.

Overall, pretty impressed with the course but everything looks like it needs a bit of investment to me.

Cleeve Hill was a magical experience, from the first tee to the 18th green. Views of the surrounding countryside are matched only by the outstanding layout and green conditions. Despite the heat & drought conditions that had severely affected other UK courses, Cleeve Hill’s fairways and (particularly) greens were top-notch. Wide-open fairways combined with few bunkers and no wster mske for an enjoyable round, but the length and cant of many fairways and the multiple blind tee shots make up for that. This is a happy place!!

Some will love it and some won’t . If you have any interest in golf history and the true experience of playing a unique, challenging and truly fun course this is for you. Nothing fancy just pure old fashioned golf on acres and acres of common land . Miles from the sea but like links golf in the sky. Amazing views are truly special.

If you want to play £100 a round golf in a buggy with water fountains, go elsewhere !

Loved this course, absolute gem

Have to say my favourite course here in the South West. Views great though it was windy. Nice this time to not have lots of sheep. Course is nicely playable at moment with no thick rough. I really enjoy it. If any grumbles popularity climbing so price climbs too and a couple of bunkers being filled in, yes not the first course these days but pity to lose them

The only thing this course lacks is a halfway house, but I can totally understand why there isn’t one, but that does not change my opinion on this course, it was great to play, very unique.

I was paired up with a 3 ball who were delightful company and great golfers ( apart from Al ).

It was 2 degrees celcius with wind up to 20 mph.

Freezing cold with the ball not carrying half as far as normal, extremely challenging.

But easily the best game of golf I had in all of 2025.

The course condition was exceptional with great drainage, a proper Links-style course on the highest point in the Cotswolds.

Words cannot describe the incredible vistas around every corner and the terrain is incredible.

If I had to play one course for the rest of my life it would be Cleeve Hill.

We played in the wind and the rain but the spectacular views and beautiful layout made it all worth it!

We’ve played our annual tournament here for over fifteen years years and seen the course change from a rural well- kept secret to its current more cared for condition. It is good to see the greens in such good condition and protected and the investment in practice nets and tee markers. Some steps into the tee boxes will hopefully be the next improvement.

Pace of play was very slow due to some society Texas- Scrambles ahead of us - not sure why they nerddd to spend so much time in deliberating who was to take the next shot? Thankfully the players behind accepted to situation and did not pressurize us in any way- thank- you.

The course itself is simply spectacular- stunning views combined with interesting and varied holes make for a superb golfing challenge…and it’s great to see it in good hands- thank-you!

After playing here for over 30 years the greens and general condition are in fantastic condition the best I’ve seen here a credit to the staff and green keepers I tip my hat
