DO NOT PLAY
Truly terribly conditioned course. Layout of holes is very good, but the condition of the course is truly shocking. The worst in the Wakefield/Leeds area.
Greens are bad, but playable. Fairways are tolerable, but the tee boxes are truly shocking. Playing off mud and rough for your tee shot is farcical.
Trees overhanging from tee boxes, trees overhanging when you’re in the fairway - the 15th hole you’re now blocked out when hitting the fairway haha.
Do not waste your money and ever play this course!
Appalling Avoid if A Golfer
Having played this course many years ago when it was owned by the De Vere Group and tab that time was superbly run course in tip top condition. What a difference this time round, unkempt fairways, bunkers, and greens, appalling tees some on permanent mats?
The pathways were a health hazard for your ankles. I realise as a member of a private members club expectations are probably high, but I can think of a dozen pay and play municipal courses I have played over the last few years a less than half the cost that would prove more enjoyable be in far far better condition and far better value for money. I truly feel for the members (if there are any left) who have to put up with this on a weekly basis and even more for the players drawn to the course by the (not so cheap) Hotel that also tries to be something it isn’t (regardless of the discount on the green fee).
Having played others on this groups chain, I am astounded that it is so poor.
Spa with a council course in the back yard
Wether the dry weather had impacted the conditions im not sure but the fairways and tee box’s we not in great nic especially for a spa and country club. Green were in okay nic but nothing to write home about and the staff in shop were a bit blunt and the bar was very over priced
Course needs a complete overhaul. Avoid
The whole course needs a lot of improvement. From Tee to Green it's very poor condition. Some holes done even have markers. Sub £20 course at best.
The greenskeeper needs firing.
The greens are absolute shambles. There's holes that are not even playable, spoke to several members on my way around and many have said they will not be getting another membership.
Poor Greens
Really poor green quality today. Lot of other golfers also commenting on the standard of the greens and is a long standing issue apparently. Won’t be returning. Lad on the mower was extremely rude and showed no etiquette either. Not a great round.
Very poor condition!!
The course condition on 5 April 2025 was shocking! Every green had been verticut, but looked to have had no water for days. Each cut was bare, dry and had opened up. You could easily 3 putt inside 10ft it was absolute pot luck as the cuts redirected the ball along with the bobbles.
Bare patches all over greenside and the rest of the course wasn't particularly well maintained either.
£8.50 for 40 range balls and i couldn't even use Trackman. Round wasn't cheap either.
Wont be playing again here - Q Hotels with their price gouging and the greenkeepers on condition should be ashamed!
Boggiest course in Leeds
Used to love this course but the drainage is so bad it’s boggy everywhere! Course layout is great but the upkeep of it is horrendous so many better golf clubs to go too at a much cheaper price.
Needs a lot of work
Payed for 18 walked off after 9, course needs some attention not worth the money as you could go to Wike or cleckheaton etc for the same price and the courses be in fantastic condition deffo need to drop the prices on this course as it’s just not upto par with a lot of courses in the area for the same price, very disappointed as it’s only down the road from me
Oulton
Good challenging course, but greens abit patchy and bunkers out of play
Course worn out
Played as a guest of a member
General feeling that the course is poor standard municipal
Areas of wear on all areas of course , bunkers poor with little sand
Tees bare in parts and greens need improvement
As stated got the feeling course is over used and Green keeping staff cannot keep up
Icing on the cake was that on completion the clubhouse was shut to members private party being held
Poor tee’s and greens
I’ve played this course a few times and each time I thought it would improve. How I was wrong.
Every single green was had been spiked which is fair enough but they won’t rolled at all and all had damage around the holes themselves, there was also holes on all the greens where people had walked and it was tearing up everywhere.
Some of the tee’s are worse than a pitch and putt by the seaside, one of them was just mud.
You could tell that the green staff couldn’t be bothered that day because all the bins were overflowing and it was only dinner time so it’s not really good for a place that charges that much and can’t be bothered keeping up to it.
2 of the greens were half the size they should of been and I wasn’t even informed when I asked about the state of the course.
It really could be a great course but they really need to tidy it up and sort the green staff out.
Oulton Hall
I’ve been wanting to play this course for years and have never been able to get the time I wanted and today I managed it. I’ve played it twice now over the years. The course was in great condition apart from the couple of greens on the back nine which were basically half of the green. I wasn’t made aware of this upon arrival neither was I made aware of 6 of the tee boxes grass not been and it was like teeing off in the rough.
The signs for the next hole were few and far between and some of them non existent so if you are unfamiliar with the course you have to guess on a few of the holes.
It really wasn’t worth the money I paid and when I finished I was hoping to speak to someone in the pro shop but nobody was about so I’ll leave that for another day.
I do hope they sort these few things out because it really is a nice testing course for all types of players.
Decent course good challenge
Overall not too bad could be better for £40 a round fairways are very narrow and if you go in the rough forget it . Greens are still a bit slow but obviously the weather has been awful so that’s understandable. When weather is better and all greens are bouncing would be very nice course . Would still recommend for visit .
Poor condition
3 of us travelled upto an hour to the course. Rang before hand and was told 18 of the 27 holes open. When arrived it was all off mats, very wet and boggy. no signage on the holes depicting number. Greens covered in daisy's. No areas had been cut. 40 quid each. I could have played a local course for less money and less time wasted. Needs alot of work.
