I played this course 4 weeks ago, what a difference. As with some other courses they did struggle after all the rain, but they have managed to cut the rough down a lot, fairways and greens all OK. and nice to see greenkeepers out and about working,
Good course
Greens and fairways are in good condition semi rough can be a bit penalty in some areas tees are ok only thing lettings it down is the bunkers the ones in play are full of foot traffic and the rakes are in place so visitors are to blame but a lot are not in play.
Overall a good course for the price and worth playing.
Solid layout but needs some investment
Good layout.
Like the course.
Staff really good.
Rain kills it!! Boggy and wet throughout.
Bunkers basically unplayable.
Would love to see some cash going into drainage and putting in some sand.
Could be a great course some dat
Great course but very repetitive
This course is great value for money and to a very high standard, but felt like 10 holes were the same just long and straight and felt repetitive but defiantly carnt knock it for the money.
Still waterlogged
Me and my brother walked off after 9 holes! Way too wet to be playing on at the minute couldn’t even find your ball in the fairway. Ball just sunk in to mud
Slow play
Usually enjoy the course even in winter but this week our two ball was stuck behind a society who were the slowest golfers I have ever experienced, 5 hours it took us to get round due to the ridiculous pace of the 4 and three ball in front . We’re only mid handicappers shooting in the 80’s so I’m not claiming that we are super golfers but there was no consideration from the groups in front , taking over 5 minutes to find balls waiting till the group in front was 400 yds away before hitting their 180yd drives on every hole! Far too busy chatting and wandering from one side to another rather than getting on with it . They had plenty of opportunities to let us through and there was no one behind us but no.
Course closed due to someone slipping into the pond
Course closed apparently 5 mins before I arrived so my round was cancelled. Was offered driving range balls. Obviously wouldn’t have travelled 40 mins to go to the driving range. Disappointed.
Rother Valley GC
Needed an early tee time this Sunday and RVGC was the only course available. Played here lots of times over the years and is a good course and well priced. Interesting layout of holes, quite hilly in places. Greens are pretty good.
Obviously we have had a bit of rain lately so wasn’t expecting no mud but I was greeted with lots of mud! Nearly went flying on a few occasions. They really need to improve the drainage on this course, until then I’ve come to conclusion it’s mainly just a summer course!
Course conditions
A well laid out course with some challenging holes, unfortunate due to the rain the course was in a bad way. Standing water in the fairway, boggy mud around the greens causing good shots to be penalised.
Great course but should've been shut in those conditions, walked off after 9 holes.
Decent course, shocking condition
Played here a few times, but never seen it in such shocking condition. We expected it to be a little wet, as RV always struggles a bit after rain, but wow!
Mud was ankle deep, and ruined a good pair of golf shoes. The course was unplayable once you were off the tee. Greens were like quicksand in places, and the approach to greens were like playing in a bog. The condition of the course was worth at least 10 shots as you couldn’t get a club on the ball.
In my opinion, it should have been closed.
What a view
A very pretty course, with a good mixture of holes, really enjoyed the round - only negative would be the minor drainage issues at the low points, it can get a little boggy.
Great layout, needs TLC
We play this course probably ten times a year at various times, this time it was a red hot September morning with lots of dew, so quite wet, I always enjoy the layout and challenge but I am always disappointed to see tee boxes which get no love from greenkeepers nor players. The course could be one of those that is up there with the right investment, but I am sure we could say that about many courses. Staff are always great, food and drink is fine. The course is a moderate challenge for a decent player with the third hole being the hardest on the course. I always like the 7th par 3 as I can never remember what club it should be. Best to play this course in summer months as it can be very boggy, but it is priced competitively and its very easy to book and get on. Keep away from the bunkers as they tend to be full of water or compacted sand. There are definitely worse courses for more money so give it a go if you want a decent value knock.
SLOWEST ROUND EVER
This was our slowest round ever , we was only a 2-ball but our patience gave up after 11 holes , after 2&1/2 hours . We were behind the monday members ‘fiddle’ (3 x 4 ball groups) . We waited on every tee , every fairway, & for every green to clear .Not once were we asked if we would like to go through , even though we prompted them on numerous occasions . This has really put us off Rother Valley GC , which is a quality track & a reasonable price for the golf now visitor .We won’t be returning any time soon , members should at least , know better not to slow play down , & have common courtesy to at least wave players through.
Course in decent condition but not the greens
Overall the course was in ok condition but for the middle of summer the greens are in pretty poor condition, other than that the course looks well maintained
Could be better
I haven not played the 18 Hole course so I cannot comment on that.
However I have been to this club for around 3 months now using the Driving range which has Toptracer installed. On some bays it does not track shots correctly and I find myself trying to wait for bays that do work consistently.
The range is ok but I would avoid it at weekends at all costs, Often you can be sat around waiting for a bay to come free whilst people stay in bays with hundreds of balls seeing how far they can drive them, There doesn’t seem to be much consideration for others.
Kids running all over the place, Swearing and shouting and running in front of people’s bays picking up balls to have another go, This definitely needs addressing.
The facilities are ok but nothing special and could do with a face lift, Overall it is an ok place to play golf but don’t expect anything more.
