Great course with great potential

The round would be way more enjoyable if golfers let quicker playing golfers through or perhaps the course could allow for longer time for the next tee off instead of having 4 groups on one hole!

Check Course Conditions before playing

Whilst our group knew it had rained the night before and we were warned that some winter greens and mats were in play we did not realise how bad it was.

Standing water on most fairways, actual puddles in some of the tee off mats. Standing water on some of the greens. Only 9 holes were open which were informed about prior to the game.

We were charged full price for 18 holes but we cut short the second 9 avoiding the wettest holes.

I actually took a fall walking away from a green and whilst not caused any actual injury I am very sore having to break my fall.

In my opinion the course should have been closed, we were not informed it was so wet. The actual groundstaff continued to work causing further damage to fairways! To be charged full price was totally unacceptable.

Thinking golfers course

Although when we arrived and were told that we could only play the first ten holes we found that we were having to think about which clubs to play on each hole to reach the greens, used clubs which I don't normally use, the greens were excellent, those first 9 holes are possibly the hardest as it looked like the rest is relatively flat, lots of hazards, the course did hold water and with it being autumn plenty of leaves, I had heard from a local that the course had been earlier in the year was bought over and must congratulate the ground staff for keeping it in really good playable condition, will definitely look to play this course again and recommend it to anyone who likes a challenge, the staff are also very helpful in the booking office,oh and the practice area brilliant.

Excellent course

Used to play this course regularly as a youngster before the floods. Forgot about it until the weekend. Excellent hole layout with plenty of challenges. Only issue was the amount of leaves on the fairways and greens. Wrong time of year.

Wet wet course

Unfortunately this course can only be played after a very dry period as it was exceptionally wet and the back 9 covered in puddles and leafs.

Also the grass was very long.

Greens were good.

A shame as a good course but only when very dry.

Tactical

A very warm welcome to the course, with the receptionist giving directions to the first.

Off to a slow start as two groups of beginners however they stood aside and let us play through, casual banter was exchanged.

The course is tree lined making it extremely tight, driver off the tee is not always the wise decision.

The greens were slower than I am used to but they did run true.

We didn’t use the bar facilities as there was a wake on.

Money Wasted.

We arrived to be informed that only the front 9 holes were open that the rest was waterlogged and closed. Paying for 18 we were immediately disappointed. To be honest the front 9 was like a bog and should have been closed also. This is the first time I have felt let down by my booking on golf now. I would appreciate a full refund after driving so many miles to be severely let down.

Many thanks.

Thomas Kelly.

Decent municipal

Played for a second time in a week, this time on a Wednesday afternoon. Much better pace of play although there did seem to be a lot of single players who surged through the course, and we let play through. Course was playable even after a lot of rain but with a few large areas of standing water.

Municipal +

Good value for money, a decent challenge for all our party of 4 (some more than others). It was a Saturday afternoon and the pace of play was more than slow. We were behind a golf society group of about 16, a few of whom wanted to explore every inch of every fairway (theirs and everyone else’s) and one of our party had a near death experience picking her tee up after driving off and her head being narrowly missed by a wayward ball! A bit unnerving. All in all a rather tiring 5 hour round!

Communication

On the day of my last round having booked on line was informed that there was an under 18 competition that afternoon.when we arrived. To make matters worse there was a 4ball in front of mixed ability, but insisting that they putted out every hole to record those important eights and nines. The competition started out in twos about 4 holes behind . By the 15 they pushing to the point that we could not play out but just had to walk on.

A bit of information about this would have given us a choice to play or not also the admin side of the course should not of let a 4 ball out so near to the comp for 2balls
