Worth a tenner
Challenging course. Wasn’t expecting much for £10 as heard mixed reviews so decided to give it a go. Overall the course layout is good and challenging. Greens could do with a bit of work as it was the only thing to let the course down but for a tenner you can’t expect Augusta greens. Maybe some better flags if I was to be really picky. But definitely worth a visit for the price so I would say I would return in the future.
Hidden Gem
This course was much more interesting and challenging than I expected. It may have no bunkers but great position of ditches and heavy rough provided ample obstacles to the play. Has to be the best value for money golf I have ever had.
Hidden Gem
This was our first time playing here and could not fault the course, the conditions of the fairways and most of the greens were fantastic, we were aware that the course would be closed during the week for green maintenance but it did not spoil our game. You had to carefully decide on some of the holes which club to use of the tees, thoroughly enjoyed our round and will definitely return to play again, the staff were very friendly and helpful, so if you are looking for a hidden gem of a course and don't mind travelling then this is for you.
No frills but plenty of character
Lovely course with amazing views. A community run club which is incredibly welcoming from the mostly volunteer staff. The facilities are a little basic but the atmosphere and hospitality is very special and a lot of so called posher places could learn a lot from the people who help keep this course going. The course itself is reasonably challenging and is surrounded by wonderful views. If you’re not very good in a bunker don’t worry they don’t have any 🤪
My only criticism is there isn’t any buggy’s for hire and the greens need a little attention. But for 18 holes at £13 on GN it was super value and combined with the friendly staff, me and my playing partner will definitely be returning and I would recommend you give it ago.
Great value for your money
Got a hot deal for £10 and was great value. good course nice views and good pace of play would definitely play again
Gem of a course at a fair and reasonable price
The course has fantastic views and is well laid out. Great value for money, very enjoyable round free from the crowds. A must play course at a very sensible reasonable price.
Halt! And play this course!
Hilly challenging but fun! Spectacular panoramic views! Lovely club house, food and drinks looked great but didn’t sample on this occasion.
Stupidly turned up without mine and my partners woods! However, extremely kind gentleman in the bar lent, free of charge, driver, fairway woods and rescue clubs, to total strangers!
So kind, so welcoming, will absolutely return to play here, and will enjoy the refreshments then! Thanks again!
Great course fantastic views
Best £15 you will spend course in great condition and a good test hilly in places but the views make it worth it.
Haltwhistle
Fairly open parkland type course in a beautiful location. Quite friendly to high handicappers like me as there are no bunkers. Greens could have been a bit better but there hasn't been significant rain here for months so probably unfair to judge.
Will definitely go back there.
Good round of golf at HGC
Course was in good condition for our round and pace of play was especially good - we travelled up from Durham with total door to door time of five and a half hours which included a vey a scenic drive each way and a pleasant game of golf. This is in stark contrast to our experience at some of the much more expensive courses nearer to home where poor pace of play typically results in circa seven hours door to door time. Top marks to all at HGC for providing a good value low stress visitor experience - we will definitely be back!
Quite hilly.fairways need drainage looking at I think.good value for money.
Great Value well maintained.
Great course to play. Very quiet the morning we played. Fantastic views round the whole course. views of Hadrians Wall and surounding area. It is the geographical centre of Britain. We were talking to a few members who told us it was maintained by volunteer members. Tee boxes , greens and fairways were exelent condition. I could imagine the course could be difficult when there had been alot of heavy rain. We would play there again no problem. Found the members we met to be very friendly. Off course facilities were not avaiable when we were there. For the price to play , a very good bargain ,thank you
Great Value!
For the money, a great value golf course. Some tricky holes, beautiful scenery and well maintained by the volunteer greenstaff. Very wet underfoot, and lots of plugged balls but for the money you simply can't complain about the course since the layout more than makes up for it!
Will definitely come again
Good course slightly frustrated by to much rain fall
Enjoyable course in fairly good condition (despite the weather!) and cracking value for money compared to alternative venues - the only frustration during our round was the decision by the club to mark preferred lies as "off" when most of the fairways were very damp resulting in plugging of tee shots / mud balls on just about every hole - this would obviously be a severe penalty for anyone playing strict rules of golf in competition. Note for visitors: please bear in mind that the course is maintained by volunteers and that there are perfectly adequate changing and WC facilities in the club house - you just have to follow the signs!
