A well balanced course...
I always enjoy playing at the Springs - I would say it is probably the best public course in Oxfordshire, from what I have seen. It's set in a wonderful setting with a fabulous backdrop of the Clubhouse which has been heavily invested in over the last 10 years or so to make it look and feel like a "private members club" but without the pricetag or stigma. On this particular day, pace of play was quite slow (thursday late morning), and as I was playing on my own, I did think "could I be let through", but the reality seemed to be, the course was fairly busy with 2 and 3 balls and if I had gone in front of the 1st people in front of me, I would have been in a constant struggle for the entire round. So in the end, I just decided to relax and enjoy the surroundings. I love the contrast of different parts of the course - To start with, very parkland, with little trouble other than bunkers and if you REALLY go off line... then a section with water hazards at the end of the front 9... then some par 5's and some more water hazard holes towards the end. I can't recommend it highly enough for handicaps of any kind - I myself play off 21 at the moment, but actually had a great day and hit a 14over. Greens were immaculate and course generally in amazing nick.
Nice course but greens not good and a lot of bare lies glad it was only £26.99 would play again if greens better but won’t be rushing back.
Good value but not the best experience
Course layout is fun, the front 9 offers some fun and exciting holes, the back 9 can get a bit samey through 12-15 but the final 3 holes are more interesting.
Tee box conditions weren’t great, and the first few holes were closed and on winter mats.
Bunkers are ok, poor quality sand and not maintained as well as other courses in the area, but not unplayable.
The greens were in poor condition, slow, and very uneven. Even down hill and sloped there was very little movement on putts (they had been hollow tined but that wasn’t the problem)
Pace of play was embarrassing, nearly 5 hours for a round and the pro shop staff allow novice/beginner golfers to jump in between an overcrowded course and start on the 10th. PRO shop staff drive around on a buggy but don’t actually do anything about it, or speak with the offenders. They also decide to just cross fairways as your teeing off, or drive down the middle of the fairway towards you. Clearly untrained on course etiquette.
Club house is great, but the bar is tiny and overcrowded at peak times.
Food was tasty, and pretty good value
Should be better
Have given course good reviews in past but it was in a pretty poor state. Greens had been recently spiked but even so grass was patchy and ball run poor. Tees were generally worn out and there were 3 temporary tees, do feel that you should be warned of this before paying their full green fee., Golf cart had frayed bag ties so difficult to secure.
Cratered greens
Greens full of massive stamped holes and covered in sand, impossible to roll a straight putt. Muppet in the clubhouse was a jobsworth, first 3 tees are Astro, can’t tee off with driver unless off the deck. Worst course since hinksey heights
Sunshine
What a lovely sunny day, and a very well kept golf course , greens were good, but a bit slow after sanding. Fairways good, friendly staff, and pace of play was perfect, would highly recommend, and the back 9 is a bit off a challenge
Stunning Course. Amazing scenery
Great value. Great condition. This was my first visit and I was hooked by the second Tee. Well maintained. Highly recommended.
Very slow play
Overall course condition was good, unfortunately most tees were in there most forward position and not in great condition with lots of sand on them. Play was ridiculously slow @ 3hrs 50mins for the round and as a single this is very frustrating. I will play again though as greens are good as is the price! Could definitely do with a marshal.
Beautiful course
The course is in a beautiful setting, a relaxing environment to play a fantastic round of golf. Friendly staff very helpful.
Springs first visit
Booked a 3 ball as a half way option to meet up with son who lives in London.
Exceptional value for the time of year.
Great to see the course was planned to allow for winter golf with a few holes closed but great winter greens in play on a couple of holes.
I have booked to take advantage of a Sunday night driver offer in April for 2 rounds of golf dinner bed and breakfast for under £300.
Had breakfast before the round and dinner when we were finished and the food and service were excellent
Looking forward to our next trip
Would highly recommend it
Enjoyable round with winter greens
Three of us played the shortened winter course, barely 18 holes open ( we didn’t get news of three holes being o/b!). Very good surface conditions despite heavy overnight rain.
Always a pleasure to play here, and the clubhouse second to none.
For the time of year and weather it was very well kept
It is one of the courses that is still very good in the winter good drainage and the staff are always very helpful and friendly
