The Wiltshire Hotel, Golf & Country Club - Lakes Course

Played here a few years ago and wanted to return to see how the course had matured. Told on arrival that the club championship was on the coming weekend, so expected course in good condition. Was very disappointed with overall conditions, looking like not having much work done to it for years. Some tees were like playing from the rough as very long grass not been cut and greens inconsistent and very rough. Some holes difficult to find a line off the tee.

Course was in generally poor condition. Patchy fairways, bunkers were full of weeds and the greens on some of the holes were unplayable. I understand the pressures facing businesses in the post-lockdown era, but there is simply no excuse for charging £29 for a round of golf when the course is in such terrible condition (see photos).

Played this course today. The greens were genuinely awful. The bunkers were unplayable, with weeds and bushes growing out of them. A real shame as has a lot of potential

Played here three times since lockdown, and the condition of the course was a lot better! Greens still need a bit of work but general pretty good. We played in a four ball and all really enjoyed the course, the layout out the course is fantastic. Some very good holes. Only disappointment was that you have to pre book bacon rolls if your in a group, but other than that it was a brilliant day. Will be definitely playing there some more.

I have played this course many times and normally in very good condition and staff are normally friendly. However this time arrival to the pro shop to book in, the guy on the counter was on his phone and did not acknowledge me for a couple of minutes. Once we were on the course the fairways were in pretty good condition but the greens were in a very poor state with brown patches all over the place and hardly any green grass. Was a very disappointing round, don’t think I’ll be playing again for awhile.

Played here last week and you can see a difference already still work to be done but overall you can see the staff working hard to get it back in good shape

Have not played this course for a couple of years but was very disappointed with the conditions very poor greens bunkers unplayable (even though can’t play them anyway) I am glad we didn’t pay full price would play there again after some repairs have been done

Appreciate there has been a lockdown, but this course was in a poor state, greens not great, bunkers full of weeds, played here before and it has always been very good, won't be back for a while.

There have been some negative reviews of the courses recently.... The greens staff have worked very hard and the improvement is tangible... far better than 3 weeks ago. Bunkers still not in play and no club house facilities but these are being worked on....

The course have had the greenkeepers furloughed and still charge full price. Awful to play and won’t be back, a real shame as played before and enjoyed

Really friendly staff, but very disappointed not to be able to get a quick beer after the game, only members and a golf society apparently . Though it was bad that two guys couldn’t have a quick drink on a hot day before leaving.

Course was nice, but let down by no maintenance on bunkers , with grass and weeds growing out of them all, along with most tees very barren and desperate for water. A few of the greens also were quite barren and just needed maintenance . Having said that the fairways were good and overall had a pleasant round.

Would have been fuming had I paid more for the round due to the lack of maintenance

I enjoyed the round on a fine day with a moderate breeze. I was around in 3.5 hours with groups ahead and behind.

I was surprised to see weeds growing in the bunkers, some will overgrown and I suspect they were not raked by staff prior to the start of the day. Even though there are no rakes for players at this time, it is disappointing not to see them kept in better condition by the grounds staff.

The fairways were good, the rough trimmed and the greens generally in good condition, with some attention needed in places.

For someone who had not played there before and was playing as a single, there are some gaps in the signing to the next tees where they are a good distance apart. As an example, coming off the 17th green, I had to enquire as to the location of the 18th tee. However this did not detract from the enjoyment of the round.

difficult one because post lockdown but think visitors should be made aware that condition was poor. Greens and bunkers not in a good way. Front 9 felt forgotten about but back 9, although greens were still in bad nick, had a great layout and better fairways which made up for it

If it was looked after would be a lovely course . The greens were in awful condition, bunkers full of weeds and grass too long. Won’t be going back
