What a place!
Stunning views combined with a nice level of challenge.
Greens were in perfect condition even after some rough weather. All holes have different tee boxes but only playing to 9 greens In my short exoerience the 9th/18th fairway must have a resident golf ball eating monster!!
Spectacular
The lovely club secretary pat was so helpful, unbelievable views will definitely play again if in the area a one to try folks
Thanks pat ⛳️
Wonderful scenery and a good golf course!
I got a great deal via Golf Now to play this course and I was not disappointed. The views are sensational and the course is in good condition. The staff clearly do a great job. I didn’t stay to have a drink in the clubhouse and so my only comment would be that some slightly better signage and indication of offers on drinks (for example) may have enticed me to stay afterwards rather than go to another local amenity for post round refreshments. I will definitely be back!
Wooler Golf Course – A Hidden Gem in the Hills
Arrival:
Wooler Golf Course is easy to locate using Google Maps. The final approach takes you up a steady, steep hill that leads directly to the car park and clubhouse. On arrival, there wasn’t anyone immediately available to speak with, but shortly after, a friendly member arrived and was soon followed by a welcoming lady from the clubhouse. Both were incredibly helpful. I explained that I had booked online, collected my match card, and was ready to get started.
The Course:
This is a 9-hole course with 18 different tee boxes to give it that full-round variety. Once I had my bag on the manual power trolley, I made my way to the first tee and quickly realised the theme of the day—elevation. The course winds its way up and down the hillside, and by the end, I felt like a mountain goat. A bit of puffing and panting later, I definitely found myself wishing I’d spent the extra £20 on a buggy!
That said, the effort was worth it. The views from the top were absolutely stunning: The Cheviot Hills to one side, Scotland stretching out to the north, and the glint of the North Sea to the east. I took a well-earned break with my sandwiches on the 7th tee, soaking in the scenery.
Course Condition:
This is probably where the course is currently struggling, but through no real fault of its own. After weeks without rain and constant sunshine, the fairways and greens are parched. The greens, in particular, were scorched and rock hard, and while it’s clear that maintenance work has been done, the weather simply hasn’t played ball. The grounds team are clearly fighting against nature right now.
Clubhouse:
Unfortunately, the clubhouse was closed during my visit, which was a bit of a letdown—I was definitely ready for a cold pint by the halfway point. However, if it had been open, there’s a small decked area overlooking the 9th/18th green that would have been a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the sunshine.
Prices:
Membership: Around £375 per year (as overheard)
Pay and Play (Online): £15 for 9 holes / £20 for 18 holes
Buggy Hire: £15 for members / £20 for guests
Overall:
I’ll definitely be going back—but next time I’m hiring a buggy and hoping the clubhouse is open for a well-earned drink at the end! The course has real charm, and the views were awesome.
Hidden Gem
Great course off the beaten track, The greens can be challenging but the fairways well cut and wide. It is a quite up and down terrain so you need to be fit.
Steep
The greens are in excellent condition especially considering the time of year. The course is best suited to a mountain goat!..... It's very steep. Good for an aerobic workout, hard on 60 year old knees!
A hidden gem.
This was my second time playing Wooler, but a first for my two friends. We were all blown away by the fantastic setting and condition of this amazing course. As I understand it, Wooler does not benefit from a large membership but the condition was far superior to many courses that do. The greens were pretty much as good as any we've played this year and the fairways were immaculate too. The views are truly incredible, as good as it gets. The staff were very warm and welcoming too. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Hidden Gem!
Beautiful views, friendly people and a lovely course. Amazing value for money, makes a refreshing change to not be ripped off for a round of golf. Some of the tee shots are amazing.
Amazing location
When all courses are closed or restrictions Woolers unique location means we can always still get a round in
Considering all the rain the greena and fairways in excellent condition
Real challenging round in some wind but loved it , walked the course very hilly so some may need one of the clubs buggies but worth every yard to see the beautiful views
Wooler in August
When you have taken in the fantastic views you have to focus on this course. The third hole is a challenge and a half. It wakes you up to the game ahead. A good selection of holes, well cared for. Greens play nicely. The club house is basic, bar closed when we visited, but it does the basics even then. Plenty of parking.
Thoroughly enjoyable experience at Wooler golf course
This couldn’t be much more different to my home golf club
I booked the night before and arrived 20 minutes before my tee time
One car one van and a motorbike in the car park and nobody in the clubhouse
No problem the friendly green keeper came to see me on his mower and away I went
As I was alone I found my way around the course with relative ease and for the price I enjoyed the experience
No bunkers and the greens were ok but the rest was well looked after
The views are fantastic and a real highlight
Thank you Wooler golf club and I hope to return someday
Golf at Wooler
Weather was superb. Views are fantastic. Very enjoyable round of golf.
Cheap but not overly enjoyable.

It is a 18 hole course but it is 9 holes played from 18 tees. Something to bear in mind.
Greens exceptionally hard and bobbly. Rough from gents tees is waist high and needs to be carried or ball is lost, fine for me as a 37 year old but my father 60 struggled to get enough hieght to carry it.
Ladies tees over 1000 yards shorter so caused issues with pace. As well as being hilly for gents tees, 9 holes took 2hrs 25 chose not to continue with back 9.
At 15 pound not expensive but I wouldn't play again.
