Great golf, bargain price
Course was in great condition and offers a good test of golf, with views out over the moors and to the coast. New clubhouse impressive and great service. I have paid much more money for much worse golf in the UK - give it a try!
friendly club
needed to tee off early due to other commitments and my booking was changed without hassle. -as I was standing in the club shop. weather was heavy rain by the 11th but the course drains well so it was not an issue on the greens .it is a hilly course at times but this helps with the views and challenge. recommend anyone who hasn't played it , to try it. not sure the new club house is fully up and running for full meals yet,but they do sandwiches for sure.
Work still in progress at Alnwick
Overall Alnwick GC is a good course with an interesting layout , excellent new facilities and is full of potential. However, sadly during our visit most of the putting greens and some of the aprons were heavily degraded in places to the extent that significant remedial attention is required which may involve stripping the existing top soil and re-seeding from scratch. Course management need to get the matter in hand urgently as the condition of the course is currently eclipsed by most others in the area. Note for visitors: the 8th and 9th holes include a severe incline which could be a problem for anyone with mobility difficulties.
Slow play annoys
Got stuck behind a four ball who refused to let us play through despite amble opportunities. Unable to finish round. Course in good condition as were greens. few blind holes
Just above average
A nice course let down by a couple of things that would make it a great course.
Pros:
Beautiful views of Northumberland.
Some really nice, challenging holes. The tee off from the top on the first is a great starting hole.
Nice new bar area and plenty of parking.
Cons:
Lots of cut grass scattered around the fairways, made some of the fairways unsightly and delayed play looking for your ball if it rolled amongst it.
Rough was completely wild with little to no chance of finding your ball. You should be punished for going in to the rough but you should be able to at least find your ball. This slows play down as the group in front kept spending time looking for their balls.
Not an easy walk. Anyone that struggles with hills will need a buggy.
A great course.
Course has changed since I last played there. Easy to follow holes as well signposted. green in very good condition. Great value for money. Friendly Northumberland welcome. Better post round amenities than before
Alnwick castle
Beautiful views from great new clubhouse. Course was wet but I’ll be back when the summers here.
Alnwick Golf Club
Great round at Alnwick.
£9 each for 18 holes on a course in good condition considering the weather.
Plenty of people out on the course and play was at a decent pace didn’t get held up once, nor did we have anyone right behind us.
Would definitely return.
New layout
Liked the new layout of the course and the new club house has an amazing view. for the resent weather the course is playing well. the only thing stopping a 5 * is there's nothing to clean your trolley with after your round, really need an air compressor or something. They have a rolling brush for your shoes tho.
Decent track
Enjoyed my 1st round here. Ensure you have the correct postcode as my sat nav took me to a housing development.
I take it the layout has changed recently as my app scorecard didn’t marry with the holes but never the less was an enjoyable round.
Fairways and greens in good nick.
Front 9 is quite tight, tree lined and relatively short where the back 9 opens up and is a lot longer.
For 12.50 it’s a bargain
excellent course
Great course and enjoyed the views fast greens and friendly staff look forward playing here again soon
Work in progress at Alnwick
The new club house and revised hole playing order are very worthwhile updates [some would say long overdue!]. We enjoyed our visit and would recommend to others. Still quite a bit of detail green keeping and ancillary work in progress which hopefully will be completed in time for the 2023 season [some of the GUR looks like it needs new topsoil and turf]. The 18th is a tough hole to finish on and there is still a lot of opportunity to lose balls in the wind bushes on the revised 1st, 2nd, 18th and elsewhere. Somewhat perversely Storm Arwen has actually done the course a few favors – it is now a bit more open with some of the previously overgrown tree cover thinned out nicely to the benefit of playability and the spectacular views from the course.
Out with the old
First played here in '72 with my uncle Dickie Proudfoot. BIG CHANGES UNDER WAY, Didn't find out that new clubhouse was almost done, will check it out in October.congrats on Clubhouse and course standard, albeit a work in progress
Played and enjoyed course many times, looking forward to seeing new club house complete. Looks great from outside
Need irrigation
Played the course. However greens were dying as irrigation wasn’t working and hadn’t worked for several weeks. Almost impossible to land a ball on the green!!!
Confusing
We realise this course is undergoing substantial changes with a new course configuration along with a new clubhouse in a different part of the course so all the numbering will soon be changed.
We found it confusing as to where hole 5 was and got lost and played 16 and 17 after 4.
We found someone who could put us right and generally the sequence of holes was easy to follow until we got to the 18th which was bisected by the 17th which caused us to doubt if we were playing it correctly.
The rough was so dense any ball going in was lost and we have never lost so many balls in one round.
Our buggy ran out of charge by the 11th but we were cheerfully rescued and given a replacement.
The staff we met were a delight and made us fell very welcome.
