OK But Not Great
I played here as my own course was too busy. I have played here before but that was the summer. When I booked it was for 18 holes, when I got to the course only 14 holes were open. I received a partial refund from Golf Now.
There has been a lot of rain over the last few weeks and many fairways were very soft, because it was so wet they also needed cutting, obviously staff couldn't without damaging them. On the plus side the greens were in good condition and had obviously been cut with a manual mower.
I would play here again but not until the summer.
Excellent considering the amount of rain.
Played today and thoroughly enjoyed it. Greens in excellent for the time of year.
The course was wet in a few places but considering the amount of rain over the last few days it is in excellent condition.
Friendly, quirky and in excellent nick
Last round before lockdown. £14 each, bacon sandwich beforehand and a beautiful day for golf.
Bearing in mind how much rain we've had, the course was in brilliant condition, especially the greens.
Staff were lovely, course is a complicated set up but we'll sign posted.
Hole 3 is brutal as is hole 12 but a great course and I would definitely play it again.
Hilly Alnwick!
Course has lots of character and was generally in good order for the time of year with the exception of bunkers which are heavily weather damaged and need urgent attention. Our group enjoyed the round but pace of play was very slow (circa 4.5 hours) – this was not helped by a course official who allowed a party that had turned up at the course over 1 hour early tee off ahead of 3 groups that were at the tee precisely on time – this is wrong, annoyed a lot of people and resulted in significant delay. Some of the holes on the course are very hilly including some blind tee shots through areas containing large trees – if this isn’t your thing then I suggest that you give the course a miss. Also it would be helpful if the fairways had yardage markers. Facilities are a bit dated now and could do with some investment to modernise and generally tidy the place up.
Where’s the castle?!
Had a nice enough round on a Sunday lunchtime. It was a cold and windy day but the course is in decent condition, all the greens were spot on with the fairways looking a little bobbly but not too bad. Classic autumn golf on a tree lined course meant leaves starting to fall and balls in the fairway sometimes still hard to
Find. The clubhouse is very rough and ready and there are no practice facilities so first swing of the day is made on the tee box directly in front of the bar, gets the nerves jangling with plenty of folk watching. While walking the enjoyable hilly course I didn’t catch a glimpse of the posthumous castle, and there wasn’t much in the way of views. All in all good value (especially for cheap coffee and pints in the clubhouse) but won’t rush back to quickly.
I enjoyed it so much 8’m joining the club
As beginners my wife and I have been looking for a club to join. We’ve played a number of local courses with this in mind.
The staff and other members could not have been more helpful.
The conditions were excellent, tee boxes greens and fairways the best, in my very limited experience, I’ve played so far.
The clubhouse had all the covid preventative measures in place so we even enjoyed a socially distanced beer afterwards!
All in all highly recommended.
Great golf course
We thoroughly enjoyed playing this course which was in excellent condition, a credit to the greenkeepers.
The staff were very welcoming, the clubhouse however, would benefit from updating.
One off
Course very hilly to say the least
1st 3 holes was like the big dipper
Course not very well signposted ie naot very well directed and not one distance yardage marker on any of the fairways
Clubhouse very friendly attached
Wonderful afternoon at Alnwick
Very warm welcome from everyone at the clubhouse got us off to a great start. The course was in excellent condition except for a few of the greens on the original part of the course which appeared to have suffered from the the drought conditions earlier this year. Really enjoyed our round. Wouldn't hesitate to play yhe course again and can recommend it to all. There was a 2 ball competition in front of us so the pace of play was superb. Just less than three hours for 18 holes.
Smashing Course, worth a visit
A very friendly club, we were made very welcome in the clubhouse before and after. The course is an interesting mix of the original 9 and extended 9 to take it to 18. Lots of holes to make you think, interesting approach shots and curvy greens. It is undoubtedly a course you would play better second time around once you understood where you needed to be shot wise.
The course was generally in excellent condition although some of the greens on the early holes were a bit patchy. Do not let that put you off though and hopefully it will be remedied soon enough.
Alnwick Castle is not one of the glamour clubs in the area but it is worth seeking out. An enjoyable place to play.
Great experience
Great challenging course and greens and fairways are well kept. Would definitely recommend.
Gotta a 15quid mud week deal for 6 baller. First time I've played and will definitely be back. Couple of greens could do with some TLC but didn't spoil our day. A bit hilly in places but good for the old ticker. Will be back
Lovely course
Played first time. Lovely course. In good condition overall although greens a little patchy. Very friendly welcome. Shame my game wasn't in same condition as course.
Bad weather = bad day
Arrived for our tee off time to find no staff to confirm booking. Spoke to a couple of old chaps in the bar and outside smoking who said to just go. Might aswell not of paid and just walked on.
The weather was poor yes but we still played as we made a 45 min drive to get there.
Very boggy under foot slipping all over the place you could see where the buggys had been skidding prior.
Finished the course as it was getting dark to find the clubhouse all in darkness and not a soul in sight.
Thanks for the hospitality imagine if we had an accident and needed help or first aid. Shame as it was first time up there but won't be back in a hurry, lovely views tho.
Hidden gem
Last minute booking. Very windy day. Course in great condition despite lots of rain in recent weeks.
Low key, relaxed, friendly clubhouse.
Very hilly!
Great variety of holes. In conversation with a member I learned it was originally a 9 hole (within park walls) with the extra 9 added later.
Thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Amazing value..£10 for 18 holes!
Beautiful course, a real hidden gem.
