Out with the old
First played here in '72 with my uncle Dickie Proudfoot. BIG CHANGES UNDER WAY, Didn't find out that new clubhouse was almost done, will check it out in October.congrats on Clubhouse and course standard, albeit a work in progress
Played and enjoyed course many times, looking forward to seeing new club house complete. Looks great from outside
Need irrigation
Played the course. However greens were dying as irrigation wasn’t working and hadn’t worked for several weeks. Almost impossible to land a ball on the green!!!
Confusing
We realise this course is undergoing substantial changes with a new course configuration along with a new clubhouse in a different part of the course so all the numbering will soon be changed.
We found it confusing as to where hole 5 was and got lost and played 16 and 17 after 4.
We found someone who could put us right and generally the sequence of holes was easy to follow until we got to the 18th which was bisected by the 17th which caused us to doubt if we were playing it correctly.
The rough was so dense any ball going in was lost and we have never lost so many balls in one round.
Our buggy ran out of charge by the 11th but we were cheerfully rescued and given a replacement.
The staff we met were a delight and made us fell very welcome.
Will be back again
Only negative thing was the course layout. We couldn't figure out where to go on a couple of holes. This is only due to some major work happening on the course. Once this is completed we will definitely be back.
Very disappointing.
First time playing Alnwick and overall very poor.
Playing in late April the course was in need of much work, although multiple green keepers were seen.
Tee boxes were either winter mats, bare or completely overgrown.
Fairways were not cut nearly short enough, semi rough was too long and punishing.
Bunkers were generally not prepared and weedy.
Greens were very dry and uneven due to hollow timing which although is required the course is many weeks behind every other local course I have played this year.
Much of the course lies in the middle of housing developments that interfere with the layout with rough temporary paths to navigate including from the car park to first tee.
The 18th hole is largely missing with a temporary green likely to be in play for the foreseeable future.
I would not recommend playing Alnwick despite the competitive green fee. Disappointed.
Course in great condition
Course in great condition for time of year. Winter greens cut but not being used.
Some greens being worked but fine to play others were in great condition.
Weather kind on our visit, sunny, dry, and the wind seemed to pass overhead.
Friendly staff in clubhouse. Food/drink good and reasonably priced
Nice little course
Some lovely holes with some great views, a little hilly but just need to put ball in right place, I imagine bit soft in winter and very fast in summer
Brilliant!
Good course layout.
Some deceiving greens.
Every green was immaculate.
I’d recommend a buggy (or a mountain goat) to carry your clubs.
Fab day out
Fantastic round of golf. Course in great condition, better than other far more expensive courses. Locals very friendly and loads of helpful advice. Breakfast rolls are amazing
Fantastic course condition
Lovely course, mint greens, well kept course and unbelievable value for £10
OK But Not Great
I played here as my own course was too busy. I have played here before but that was the summer. When I booked it was for 18 holes, when I got to the course only 14 holes were open. I received a partial refund from Golf Now.
There has been a lot of rain over the last few weeks and many fairways were very soft, because it was so wet they also needed cutting, obviously staff couldn't without damaging them. On the plus side the greens were in good condition and had obviously been cut with a manual mower.
I would play here again but not until the summer.
Excellent considering the amount of rain.
Played today and thoroughly enjoyed it. Greens in excellent for the time of year.
The course was wet in a few places but considering the amount of rain over the last few days it is in excellent condition.
Friendly, quirky and in excellent nick
Last round before lockdown. £14 each, bacon sandwich beforehand and a beautiful day for golf.
Bearing in mind how much rain we've had, the course was in brilliant condition, especially the greens.
Staff were lovely, course is a complicated set up but we'll sign posted.
Hole 3 is brutal as is hole 12 but a great course and I would definitely play it again.
