Lone Tree Golf Course
About
Lone Tree Golf & Event Center sits at the base of Mount Diablo State Park, tumbling across rolling hills that provide panoramic views of the scenic San Juaquin River Delta region. It is one of the most popular golf courses among local Bay Area golfers. The name of the course is misleading since the beautiful landscape is covered with mature forests filled with a variety of indigenous trees including majestic Red Oaks, Cypress, Eucalyptus, and Ponderosa Pines. These towering treetops make navigating the course pretty tricky. Accuracy is essential as is precise shot placement. The trees border the rolling fairways and there are bunkers strategically placed along the greensides. In 1990, Lone Tree's greens were completely redone except for those on the 12th and 15th, which are the two smallest on the golf course.

Not worth playing
I hadn't played here in a few years because the course was so bad, I hoped things had improved, but, they haven't. The greens are the worst I have ever played. They are brown, dead-looking, and hard as a rock----not to mention ridiculously FAST!
My group has no intentions of ever comin back. I wouldn.t play for free,
Great Day at Lone Tree!
The staff was great (as always) & the course (except for the dormant greens) was in great shape!
Decent course, tough greens, tight layout.
I have played Lone Tree a few times recently. The course is a decent layout, it's pretty straight forward. The biggest issue is the Bermuda greens, they are fast in the summer and now that they are dormant are even faster. As a beginning golfer I can only describe them as a nightmare, luckily my brother was generous with the gimmies or I still might be trying to finish the round. It is a nice facility with new carts, a good range and warm up area. Fairways are in decent shape. It does seem a bit pricey considering the current shape of the course.
Lots of fun
Had a great time playing with my son. Course was wet, but very playable.
Thanks MArty. Glad you enjoyed!
Poor greens
Over all the course was nice. The greens were terrible and basically just dirt. If you just having fun and dont care about it then it's no big deal. Otherwise fun course and wind made it a bit more challenging.
Greens are dormant bermuda. grass.
Good Conditions for Winter
The course played was in pretty good winter condition. The greens were frost bitten and extremely fast. But I’d play here again soon.
Glad you enjoyed! Come on back!
Poor greens
The greens are terrible. They are totally brown with no grass and there is no joy to putt. They charge $12 for a large aize range ball which i think is too expensive.
On the weekends they charge $55 on golfnow but this course is not worth the money they charge to play. Not sure if i will go back there to play or no.
Bermuda grass on the greens was a terrible idea.
Sorry you feel that way; the eight years before the greens would die every year. Bermuda grass kept the golf course from closing!
happy to return
It had been a long time since playing here. They had temporary greens then. All the holes are in play. Greens are nice, and fast as the grass seems to have gone dormant. Overall, your average/above-average public course. I had a good time and would return given the price.
Thanks for coming out!
Round of Golf at LoneTree Golf Course
I planned to play a round of Golf on windy day assuming that there will no other golfer but when I reached to the course it was full and ProShop guy asked me to start at back 9. I played few holes at a very nice pace but then I got stuck back with 3 foursomes. I had to skip few holes to get going. I would says it was not a bad day. The greens are fast with Bermuda grass.
Thanks for coming out. It has been busy this winter with great weather so single flying around course is hard to come by. Twosomes, Threesomes, and foursomes recommended. Glad you like fast greens. Thank you!
Greens are much better
Greens are much better than they were. Very fast, but vastly better than the brown mess that was there last year.
Need level tee boxes. Real good sand no rocks in sand traps.
We have redone back tee on holes #2, & #11, but the white tee areas on both holes need to be leveled and we agree. Going to tackle that after bunker renovation finishes this Winter and taking some slope out of #1 green.
Greens
Greens were very fast and dry . Fairway,s were good . Ball cleaning depot's mostly out of water . Over all good .
Nice Greens Now
Haven't played here in 2 years due to poor course conditions, especially the greens. It is now MUCH better, greens are terrific! I'll be back soon.
Lone tree golf course
Fairways and greens we good . Staff members were friendly and helpful .
Good Day of Golf
Really enjoyed my round. Weather was great and course was in good condition. Fairways had a few areas where water had collected. I felt bunkers were a little firm, but they were clean of rocks and weeds. I would certainly play this course again.
course coditions very improved
since i last played greens are back in good condition , and putting is so much easier, and controlable .
fairways are also well cut, and most places are very good . will play again
Nice course
The greens were in good condition but fairways need some love . The piece of play was Good .
The clubhouse is nice place to have a drink with friends food is OK .
Much Improved Greens
It’s been about a year since I played this course and the greens have been much improved. I told myself the time before that I would not come back because the conditions were terrible. I saw the latest reviews and decided to give it a try. I’m glad I did. I would definitely come back.
Hi Denny,
Sorry you feel that way. We converted to Champion Bermuda two years ago. It was a decision that literally saved our golf course from not closing! The poa annua & bent grass was failing year after year in the Summer heat, We couldn't rebuild our greens due to cost (millions) so we regrassed them with Champion Bermuda for $40K;. Our members love the Champion Bermuda and membership has grown to over 600 members! Other guests like them too. Tournament business is growing too and getting favorable comments. Yes, the bermuda is dormant or brown in the winter but get beyond "color" and they putt really smooth, and really fast!!! And firm and fast is also something players want which also describes them. All golfers request these characteristic nowadays. Admittedly hole #1 par 4 has too much slope. We are going to take some slope out of it in June this year; we actually play to a par 3 on hole #1 Mon-Thursday currenty (to extra green on #10; we built a new tee box). Besides greens, we rebuilt the back 9 greenside bunkers in the last two months and will have the front greenside rebuilt by May 1. Public golf in California needs solutions like "Champion Bermuda" and you are going to see more and more courses going to this type of grass. Uses less water (which also means less electricity to pump), handles heat better and putts smooth and fast! I hope you come check us out some other time; 600 members must like what they are seeing for some reason. GM Ron Parish; call me if want to discuss more 925-706-4220.
