Lone Tree Golf Course

About
Lone Tree Golf & Event Center sits at the base of Mount Diablo State Park, tumbling across rolling hills that provide panoramic views of the scenic San Juaquin River Delta region. It is one of the most popular golf courses among local Bay Area golfers. The name of the course is misleading since the beautiful landscape is covered with mature forests filled with a variety of indigenous trees including majestic Red Oaks, Cypress, Eucalyptus, and Ponderosa Pines. These towering treetops make navigating the course pretty tricky. Accuracy is essential as is precise shot placement. The trees border the rolling fairways and there are bunkers strategically placed along the greensides. In 1990, Lone Tree's greens were completely redone except for those on the 12th and 15th, which are the two smallest on the golf course.

Great Condition
Lone Tree is in very good condition. Probably the best I’ve seen. Greens are coming in and rolling nice. Still some trouble with a couple of the greens. Fairways are in great shape also. The staff should be commended for getting the course back in shape after the last few years.
The only complaint is I played the night of a league and they had groups of 6 playing. Very slow and the groups were not letting other faster groups play through.
I really appreciate the youth programs they have going and allowing the high school teams to play matches.
Course was just not in good shape. The grass in the tee box was about what a rough should be. The fairway's and actual rough were just so long it was hard to find your ball.
Nice course with horrible greens
I played Lone Tree on 4/3/19. I teed off in the morning and played all 18 holes. The course is in bad shape. They rebuilt all 18 greens and the new greens are in horrible shape. Bumpy, sand everywhere and dead spots. Your ball bounces all over the place. The fairways were in need of mowing and chunky. It is too bad since it is a neat course with a nice layout. It has some cool holes on it. They really need to get it back int shape.
Still as I remembered
It had been two years since playing here as the first time I had played here conditions were poor at best with numerous temporary greens.Much to my surprise it was worse this time.
Starting with parking,if you come sunday forget it,Parking lots are always full from the buffet so finding parking is as hard as finding your ball on the fairway which looked like they had just cut it fron 5 inches in length with tons of lawn trimmings laying on top for your ball to hide under and keep you searching.
Greens were the worst I have played ever, right there with Bethel Island, literally dirt with tiny remnants of grass starting to grow. Some was dryed mud all cracked and like a desert but the funniest thing was the locals talking about how much better the greens were now......Are you kidding me?Better then what putting in mud I suppose. We ended up joining the guys in front of us the last half as we waited every hole and people were slicing balls off constantly into our fairway from ours yelling "FORE",luckily no one got hit.Funny part was when one of the guys said its hard to judge the putts now some grass is starting to grow on the green, imagine that grass on the greens what an inconveinance.I laughed at that and he started lkaughing as well after saying that but the ball rolled so bumpy down the patchy dirt hardpan.....I should have really taken photo's and posted them but didn't.Anyway if you too don't like grass on the greens like those guys then this is the place for you.
Putting on concrete/dead greens
Horrible, and I mean HORRIBLE greens....!!!!!!!with all the rain you’d think the course would have greens maintained and in great condition, but they were all dark brown, and looked stripped, but “according” to the pro shop that’s just how Bermuda grass is around this time of the year....They are a plain rip off and not worth the money, 45$ hot deal is INSANE to charge here LOL....Golfnow.com needs to make it clear that the greens at this course are in terrible condition...!!!!
Fast and bumpy greens/tall rough
The greens are very fast, bumpy and hard. Difficult to hold. The fairways need mowing. The rough is tall and thick. Difficult to fix your ball.

Thanks for feedback. With all this rain, we have to wait for the ground to dry up enough to get the mowers on it; small windows every couple of weeks this winter. Yes greens are fast; when they have a little moisture, ie: rained the night before, they putt slower. Champion bermuda greens are very firm/tough so yes ballmarks are harder to fix but also harder to make.
Thanks for feedback, hope to see you again soon.
The course has a good layout but it was not in great condition. The greens were horrible . I won’t go back because of the greens

Did the golf shop staff explain they are dormant bermuda? New as of Summer 2018. This is a great grass but yes goes brown in Winter; our members (over 550) really enjoy them but had to get over the color. With temps warming, they are getting color back. Keep checking them out, you will see why we are excited about this grass. Thanks for feedback.
No grass on the greens
Played here in 2018 and the greens were in rough shape and had temporary holes. Played again in 2019 and none of the greens had any grass on them. It was mostly sand. Aside from the greens, the grass condition was good, but they need to pick up the grass shavings.

Thanks for patronage and feedback. Champion bermuda greens so dormant in Winter; they are still teenagers (renovated Summer 2018) so keep checking them out; they are starting to get color in their cheeks and setting up for a great Spring and in Summer they will be amazing cause love the heat.
Thanks again.
The “greens” are terrible
They have been working on this course and its not getting any better. It was a complete waste of money to play. Forget putting unless you are great at a slick, ice-lick surface. I wont go back til it’s finally finished. Not worth the money at all

Appreciate your patronage. Apologies not experience you hope for. When they have moistrue (recent rains) they slow down, and they are now coming out of dormancy and growing with warmer temperatures. Greens are Champion Bermuda and survives challenging conditions of hot Summers. Yes when dormant they putt extra fast; still need one more year of growth to reach full maturity. Keep eye on and hope to see you check out again.
Horrible greens
I have played here before and liked it, so I decided to book a tee time for me and my father in law. Little did I know their greens are dead and packed with sand. Considering it was full price, I am not happy at all. Especially since there was no warning while booking the tee time. I would have booked a different course that I know is in better condition. The course itself was pretty beat up as well. The only thing that saved me from not absolutely hating today was the amazing food in the bar. I will play this course again when the greens are nice. I would not have been upset if I knew the conditions while booking, but nothing was posted.

Sorry experience not favorable. With all the rain, getting the mowers out is a challenge until ground firms up. Greens are dormant bermuda; could still use another year of Summer growth to mature out. They are growing now so are slower/not ultra fast. Give these newbies some time, you will see why we brough them in.
Worst golf course I’ve ever played
Beware. Take ur money and play elsewhere. I will call this place a cow pasture if anything else but a golf course. All greens are compacted sand/dirt. No grass at all on 18 greens. Fairways are sick and badly maintained. Immediate rough are all wild. Good luck finding your ball. They will have to pay me to ever play here again.

Hard to get mowers out; I'm PGA and have played to private clubs in last month and their rough up too; can't access until firms up so small windows there. Greens are dormant Bermuda so no green color in Winter; also fast speeds which is refreshing compared to old slow greens. Give Champion some time, check out as it gets warm; it will make sense. Thanks for communication.
Dirt greens
Greens have been re-planted, so now they are packed dirt.
Lots of water on course was understandable along with un-mowed areas because of the rain. But the tee boxes were horribly torn up and the fairways seemed to have many types of grass.
We will not return.

Dormant bermuda yes. It is something to get used too. Kind of decision golf courses are making to still have public golf. When they have a little moisture they putt slower. Lots of guests like the extra speed but understandably difficult. They are getting color with warmer temps. Keep trying them and you will see what they are about. Especially in Summer heat. thanks.
Poor course conditions
Fairways were shaggy, and the bermuda greens were dead so I was Putting in brown dirt.
Won’t play at this course again.

We roll them so smooth and yes they are exceptionally fast. Still need one more year to reach full maturity. This Champion Bermuda is hearty and loves heat. Come check out as we warm up, please give some time. Will make sense.
New Greens
The new greens are faster but covered in too much sand. I wanted to putt on grass

Come check them out in April. They are growing now that we are getting warmer. Let me know what you think....

Dead Greens
Thought I had a great deal until we teed off and realized that all the greens were dead. Dead pan dead. Sort of pointless to play. But we roughed it out for 9. Couldn’t take anymore and headed in for some great burgers.
Need marshalls during the weekends.
Two 2-somes joined up in front of us and they were extremely slow. We finally skipped a hole so we could pass them. If we didn't pass them, we would have never finished before sunset. While driving out, I saw that they were only starting the 17th hole. This is after putting away my clubs, changing my shoes, returning the cart, & using the restroom. O-brother!!
nice greens.
Lone Tree has new greens that play well. The fairways are in poor to fair condition. There is no chipping area right now because of some renovations. The driving range has no grass at all. The restaurant wasn't open today, but usually it's very good.
Hi. Thanks for leaving feedback. We are sorry to hear some disappointments in your round. Our greens are Champion Bermuda and yes they are dormant in the winter so the color is brown; this is completely new to Nor Cal but it is going to be more and more common. The greens are firm (which is a great quality and roll fast); our members are really enjoying them. They have one more year of growth to reach full maturity. Hope you try them again, particularly in the Summer heat when other greens are dieing, these will be thriving.
