Well kept 9 hole golf course
Short but very well kept golf course. Staff helpful and friendly. I Try and play weekly but ofter due to other commitments and weather its twice a month.
So, so slow
Ten minute tee slots are allocated for both two and four balls. Many novices don't understand the need to keep pace during their rounds and, particularly with four balls, this quickly leads to bottlenecks on tees. The need to keep pace needs to be emphasised more strongly.
Overall though the course offers value for money for new players
Excellent
Excellent facilities here at Southport golf academy, it was our first time trying this course. The weather was bad when we arrived so we decided to hit 100 balls on the range first, the range is absolutely brilliant probably the best I've been to especially with the trackman, staff was also really friendly and helpful. Once we hit the 100 balls we then managed to get out on the course which is also really good and very good condition. We will definitely be returning to both the course and range.
It's in the name
Southport Academy is the name. It tells you it is to enable people to learn how to play golf young or older. It is also ideal for the older golfers who might still want to play but 18 holes is now too much. There are a couple of par 4's about 250 yards in length. Not everyone wants to play 500 yard par 5's.
The previous reviewer is being over critical and not appreciating what the course is intrnd for. My grandson has just started to play and is very comfortable here, though he will eventually outgrow the Academy course.
The cafe is much used by players so proving it is beneficial and good value
Reason No score card on site
Tried to find scorecard online but couldn't get it and the reason being it's a pitch and putting course really totally conned also signs and pics everywhere of ice cream ice lollies but only sell children's icepops don't go unless your taking kids upto 10 year old
Lovely course with friendly staff
The course is really nice to play and all staff are really helpful and knowledgeable.
Will certainly return here soon.
Always a fun day out
Richard and team do a fab job delivering a top notch experience. They make everyone feel welcome.
Really good stater course
Great course for money , typically always availability at some point in the day if your flexible.
Well looked after course and staff are great.
Starting to see a lot of 4 balls play dreadfully slow with poor general golf etiquette adding up to 40 mins on a 9’hole round.
We walked off after 6 this time round .
We will be back as it’s great course.
Tees & Greens disappointed
Was disappointed all the tees are artificial so couldn't use Tee pegs and the Greens were poor, bumpy and didn't seem very well looked after. I know it is difficult after having no rain for about 6 weeks and that may be a factor.
Southport Golf Academy
We arrived early in the morning and it was a nice day. The course was in a really good condition well maintained and the holes were challenging and helped to improve your short game. Overall a great experience. The staff our very friendly and would recommend
Nice Par 3 Course.
Really enjoyable and a great place for short game practice.
Nice little course
A nice little course for a quick round, good for some iron and short game practice, very reasonable prices too
Hidden gem
Cracking little course, one par 4 and then all par threes although a couple of them are 200yrds plus so for high end handicappers possibly would benefit from turning them to par 4s
Well worth a visit. Course is in great condition although as with most muni 9 holes the greens aren't that fantastic. In saying that this is a solid course
Great Place
Played twice over Christmas. Course was really well maintained. Staff absolutely awesome, really friendly. Course itself is a well played out par 3. One of the best in the north west.
Awesome
Fantastic little course. well maintained and staff awesome. would highly reccomend
Perfect course for beginners
Living around Southport, you are spoilt for choice for where to play golf. I'd highly recommend Southport Golf Academy for any beginners or someone looking to hone a particular skill. The course is kept in brilliant condition, especially the greens which run incredibly smooth. I used to play a lot here when I was a child and now as an adult, I come here to practice if I've been having difficulties off the tee or my short game is off.
Overbooked. Worse attempt of a game of golf in my life.
Booked 9 holes on the GN app, 3 and a half hours priorl
As I enter reception/till I was informed by staff that I wasn't on the system and the course had been overbooked. The staff let me go on and fit in between the other player. So I tried.
The first hope was busy, so I skipped through from 6th hole to the 9th. Then went back to 1st hole and it was busy, so I went practiced a few pitches for 15mins and decided to skip to 2nd and try play though, where they was no chance. It was too busy so I gave up and walked back.
All in all, I played 4 holes.
Now this used to be my favourite course and I only discover the course thoughts golf now app and I have play there on several occasions. But this experience has disappointed me and has put me off playing there in the future.
Very disappointed.
Great short game golf course
This was perfect for my short came with some narrow windows fir ball flight. Our party had a beginner who thoroughly enjoyed herself. The course was quiet and perfect for her to start her golfing journey.
Highly recommend this course! Only down side is the Astro-tees. They are self preserving so understandable why they are in place. The rest of the course is really well maintained.
