Indian Palms Golf & Country Club - Indian/Mountain
About
This course dates back to the 1940s and carries a powerful history. Dwight Eisenhower and John Kennedy played many a round at Indian Palms, back when it was called Cochran Ranch. Eisenhower loved the place so much, he wrote his memoirs at the ranch.
The Indian nine is the longest, with the most straight-forward holes.
The Mountain nine is probably the toughest of the three, with plenty of hills out on the course and plenty of slope on the greens. The Mountain nine also boasts a rare par-4 island green

Terrible condition
I hadn’t played here in 2 years-COVID. This was my go to course for 5 years prior to COVID. Some greens had no grass, hard as rock. Some fairways were sketchy with grass. Locals made comments that they never fertilizered as cost was too high. For the price they charged is was not worth it. $35 at the most not $63 . I will not be back☹️
Cart Issues
We could not get a cart upon arriving 45 minutes before our tee time. We were told that we had to wait until 10 minutes before our time to get a cart, even though there were 11 carts in the staging area. Eleven carts would be 5 tee times that carts were available for. But the person who checked us in said those carts were staged for tee times ahead of us. It's hard to believe that they would squeeze 5 tee times into 45 minutes. Upon getting our cart 10 minutes prior to our tee time, we noticed that most of the carts that were staged when we got there were still there. Now the good part. Afterplaying 2 holes, our cart batteries did not have enough power to continue. We had to call the proshop and have another brought to us. The second cart they brought us lasted 13 holes, and again we had to call and have another brought to us. The course and carts need a great deal of attention. We won't be back until their management realizes they have issue, and corrects accordingly.
Please do NOT allow groups of 5 or more!
Fast pace of play for 2/3 of the round & then a 5-some made it painfully slow! Winter rules are a must here as the grass is patchy and inconsistent. Too wet in some places and you get a mud ball while other shots bounce like they hit a cart path as it's so hard. Putting is a guessing game with bare spots. This course has the potential to be much better than it is. Disappointing.
Please do NOT allow groups of 5 or more!
We rented a home within the walled Indian Palms community for a week. Played it for the first time 2 days earlier with 2 local members. Played the first 11 holes quicker than the last 7 as we waited for a 5-some over & over from the 12th on. This round on a Tuesday was painfully SLOW as 2 X 5-somes were allowed to dictate the pace of our entire day. The 5 wives were out front & the 5 husbands followed. NO ONE was able to play through and on a few par 3's there were 5 groups backed up!!!! Hurry up and wait golf is no fun & this round took way too long. My group left after 16 holes as we were already an extra hour on the course than a typical round. The mountain course is in bad shape on many holes including a final green that's completely dead. Get a marshal to keep the pace of play and STOP allowing groups of 5 or more! Play at your own risk & winter rules apply.
Good value, but you get what you pay for
The course is fine, but it looks run down. The "driving range" is an open field, and when you pay for balls you're handed a small trashbag with range balls. The signs are in disrepair, the staff are nice older gentlemen, but it looks like most patrons are regulars, so there isn't a lot of clarity about where to go. They have 27 holes, but the starter seems to just assign people randomly. Not likely to play again.
Patchy
The course overall was okay. Course can use a lot of TLC. The fairways weren't in the greatest shape, lots of patchy areas. Rough needs a lot of work. Greens were not as bad as the fairway, but could use woks also.
Good course, some greens hurting...
Well due to Covid times, there are no starters out there. The Pro shop advised people which of the 9s they were on, but not everybody listened! Ended up playing Mountain 9 twice, which was fine as we could play 18 holes in 3.5 hours.
Some good challenging holes. But were advised the 7, 8, 9 greens were being repaired, so may take a few days for those to improve. Other greens were good to excellent..
Nice staff.
Pro Shop
Not a good experience in the pro shop! We’re told no carts but went to starter and got one right away! Starter was great! Pro shop person was miserable! Course was in poor shape!
Waiting for your cart!
The course conditions have improved over the past two months. The problem and challenges that golfers have; especially, playing late morning and early afternoon is having a golf cart available at your tee time. Plus, having one that will get you through your round of 18.
Many of the carts have old batteries and they are not taking a proper charge. It's not uncommon to have golfers waiting for a cart to start their round. This is sad!
With the conditions of the carts, I can not honestly recommend playing IPCC at this time.
I forgot
Our original t-time got canceled so we had to scramble to find a last minute venue. I forgot when I played this course a couple of years ago how bad it was. The mountain 9 was a real goat track. Grass not mown, tees dug up from tee shots, leaves all over hiding balls, greens hairy long. The indian 9 had overall better conditions but marginally acceptable. Stay away
Palms and clover
Good course for family friendly pace. Friendly staff, challenging putting. Shortage of carts and range balls was a setback. Enjoyed the round. Beware of hidden water on approach to greens
Carts?
For the money (cheap) it was ok. Except most of ghe golf carts had battery problems. We changed carts 2 times and barely finished with the 3rd cart. Fix the carts!
Sad course, another one in Palm Springs that needs TLC
Played it many years ago, in its prime. Royal course was decent but Indian needs much improvement with long blotchy fairway grass and areas of weeds and dead plants. However greens were fine.
Pin placement
#8 on Royal was not a legal pin placement. Ball would not stop rolling within about 8 feet of the cup.
No rangers on the course to keep groups moving.
