Indian Palms Golf & Country Club - Royal/Indian
About
This course dates back to the 1940s and carries a powerful history. Dwight Eisenhower and John Kennedy played many a round at Indian Palms, back when it was called Cochran Ranch. Eisenhower loved the place so much, he wrote his memoirs at the ranch.
You might become enraptured with Indian Palms' past. But the course itself has very much moved into the 21st century.
Each of the nines carries its own personality. The Indian nine is the longest, with the most straight-forward holes. The Royal nine features water on eight of its holes. (Yes, your break from water is one hole total).

Poor Conditions, Nothing has changed in 3 years
I know they say that they are undergoing a "major renovation", but I see nothing that would suggest this. We have golfed this course the past 3 years and it gets worse every year. I never seen greens as bad as the mountain and Royal. The owners should be embarrassed. We spend 5 months a year in the coachella valley and have golfed nearly every course. This is the worst by far. Also, Don't forget to get your driver's license after they force you to leave it with them to use a cart!
Tight but fun”
This course was built in the 1960’s I’d say, tight course, bad greens this time of the year, I must say they’re working on it so the course is in better shape than last time I played here . I’d play it again !
Course still in rough shape
Fairways ok, multiple water hazards just dry or mud, greens a mess, with bare patches. Only worth about half the price they are charging.
Could be goid
Course was in rough shape but nice layout nothing that a little love can t cure Staff could be friendlier and more welcoming
Enjoyed
The course is in pretty good condition. Big improvement since last year. Three nine hole courses. Played Royal and Mountain courses. Greens on Mountain are pretty dry and faster than on Royal. Pace of play was excellent. Course not very busy when we golfed. As a twosome we played in under 3 hours. Staff very friendly.
Better than the last few years but still needs a lot of work
Used to get a two month seasonal membership until 3 years. Course management and conditions steadily declined when we played in 2020. Then in 2023, they hiked the round price substantially, ended offering seasonal memberships, and the greens didn’t have grass! We left. We decided to give it a try again this year. Course conditions are much better but still only fair. Greens have some grass, some bumpy, but surprising speedy. There appeared to be a pro shop but it was closed. Payed at a window, more like a driving range, and the range balls came in a plastic bag. It is too bad. The course has a decent layout and could be a good test of golf.
Good course routing
The course has potential, but fall seeding did not take very well.
Poor greens
Played the Mountain and Royal course. Overheard a fellow golfer after playing Indian Course tell the starter it was terrible and asked why he had to play it and got a shrug in response. Don’t know if you get a choice. Mountain and Royal were okay except the greens are in tough shape so don’t expect a true roll. Maybe next year they will have the greens repaired.
Come on back!
We've been playing Indian Palms for around 15 years. It has gone through a significant course renovation that started in the Summer of 2025. It is now, with a few exceptions, in the best condition it has been in for a decade! The fairways are well overseeded, and they are keeping the course trimmed. The greens are fairly consistent in speed. There are many water features and lots of trees that have been improved/trimmed or removed.
There are three nines, Royal and Mountain are in the very best shape. The Indian has a couple greens that need to be replaced/resodded. Bunkers in the Coachella Valley are hit and miss due to the windstorms we often see. So, Bunkers here are mostly poor condition and in need of added sand.
It you want to save some green fees in the valley, come and play here. The course layout and incredible mountain views are well worth the green fees! The food in the Hangar 19 bar and grill will also be a great treat for you! It's all delicious and good proportions.
Not worth it
I just don't understand how during the season the greens are brown and sandy. This course condition would even be bad during the summer.
Looking good!
We booked our round based on recent reviews reporting that current management is making a concerted effort to improve the quality of the course and has made great progress towards that goal. We played the Mountain/Royal course with a “local” who confirmed that assessment. Independently, we were very pleased with the conditions overall…fairways were very accommodating and the greens were fast and true, albeit still “filling in” and a bit sandy, having been renovated (we were told) not too long ago. The bunkers, however, are sorely in need of more sand. However, with the price of golf in the Palm Desert area, we felt we got a good experience and good value for what we paid. We will likely play here again.
This course is gradually being improved
A lot of work has gone into trying to bring this course up to par..it is work in progress and we enjoy playing if and when rates reflect it is not by any means a top notch course...hoping it will continue to improve under new management
Needs a little time to get back to it's glory
We started this course with the online pictures in mind and the hopes for an amazing experience. We quickly discovered that the Royal course was not so royal. The tee boxes are a mess. The greens are awful. And the fairways were in exceptionally rough shape. They have been doing a lot of work on this course to restore it to its once former beauty, so it is worth noting that they are trying. But to charge the rates they are for a course in this condition is not acceptable. The Mountain course was beautiful. I am so glad we finished on that course rather than started on that course because it left a much better impression than the Royal. I would avoid playing this course for another season until they have it back to how it should be.
Save your money
Driving range was closed, facilities were dated/worn out, poor golf conditions (especially on Indian) despite cart path only, score cards didn’t match placards at teebox, some tee-boxes ( I was playing from the “whites”) missing markers (Mountain course) and leaving me to guess where to tee off, some water features were empty (no water), and in one “pond” on approach to green had a dead goose that we smelled before we saw it. If you enjoy the game, I would save your money and wave this course off.
VERY poor condition!
Not sure how this course gets any stars of rating.
I have never had my driver's licence taken from me, and not returned until I return the key to the administration office at any other course.
The Mountain course just opened after over seeding, so I understand it isn't in top shape, but the Indian course hasn't been scalped yet to overseed, and there were many hard bare spots, with no signs of them trying to improve it. The holes on the greens had ragged edges, and didn't appear to have been moved recently.
I live walking g distance to this course, and haven't played there for a number of years. I thought I would give it a try, as they claim to have made major improvements. Sadly, it seemed in as bad condition as I remembered it.
Solid course
Love the layout and the pace of play was great. All of the staff are super nice as well! Great burgers in the restaurant!!
Worst course in entire Coachella Valley
Dirt everywhere. Fairway’s had very little grass. Mostly dirt. Greens had lots of dirt. Online rate was $40 but course charged $65 Crazy. We will never play this course again. It was that bad.
