Nicest course around but….
Saint Marlow’s the nicest course around. My only issue was the pace of play and the tee time management. Also, they have a rule of no more than three
Carts per group.
We had a situation where we needed 4, and the starter did not want to bend.
Overall, the course is beautiful the multi million dollar houses that are around are beautiful. Courses in the North Atlanta area should really take lessons from courses in Asia where the green fee allowed you to use the lockers and showers after playing around.
Most groups go out afterwards to eat and if that was the case the courses could attract more people to stay and spend money there at the lodge.
Not a bad public track
This was our first time playing St Marlo, all in all the only real complaint I would have is the pace of play. Our round took 4 hours and 57 minutes. Playing a public course on a Saturday morning I certainly don’t expect to be able to zip around in 3 hours, but a near 5 hour round is a little ridiculous. I did not see a Marshall on the course a single time after we started, several times we were double stacked on a tee box with the group in front of us. From a golf course standpoint, I thought it was a good course in pretty good shape. The greens were fair, a little bumpy (no one seems to care about fixing ball marks) but the speed was good and they were very receptive. The course was well kept for the most part and offered a good balance of challenging holes while also giving opportunities to score. I would probably play this course again if I didn’t have to deal with pace issues.
Nice layout, but too overpriced for these greens.
The course layout is good, played the blue tees and a lot of holes you will struggle with a driver unless you are in full control. The greens are not very good. They were very slow, haven’t been rolled and a lot of bare spots. I paid over $100 to play this course….WAY TOO MUCH for this course
Avoid St. Marlo!
After golfing at St. Marlo county club for over a decade, today I received a citation in the mail from my most recent visit attempting to collect $75 from me for traveling 30 mph in a 25 mph zone. While I do not deny that I inadvertanly exceeded the 25 mph speed limit, this was a one time inadvertant mistake that was not excessive speeding and would not even be ticketed on a public Georgia road. I attempted to contact the HOA and they clearly communicated that they care more about their rules than they do their patrons. If the course was not wildly mediocre I might have paid the fine to preserve my access to the course, but I am happy to take my business to any of the number of nicer courses in and around Atlanta. I strongly recommend avoiding St. Marlo.
Course is beautiful in nice gated community. Grass driving range, putting green, and chipping area all behind beautiful club house. Nice mix of elevation changes, bunkers, doglegs and water for a very nice design/layout. Tee boxes and fairways/rough were in good condition. Greens were unfortunately slow, shaggy, and beat up from lack of ball mark repair. Bunkers were atrocious, most were not playable, though the ones surrounding the par 3s seemed in better condition. Would expect playable bunkers and rolling greens for a $105 price tag. But course is beautiful enough I may come back, but there's better value out there
Excellent course
Everything was perfect including the greens. Due to the previous weather (3 days' rain), the grass was too tall to find the balls outside the fairways. However, I feel that the course will be maintained well under the normal weather conditions. I enjoyed playing very much.
Slow is the name of game
My playing partner and I arrived at the course for our tee time about an hour before. We checked in with the kid who was the starter for the day and asked him to send us out whenever he had a gap. Turns out he wasn't managing the groups at all. The foursome in front of us turned into 2 group of 2. The single that was in our tee time decided he wanted to play by himself behind us. We ended up starting 10 mins after our official tee time and waited on every hole to hit.
The course was wet but in decent shape from tee to fairway. It needed some grounds under repair in the fairways but with cart path only, was in decent shape. The greens were bumpy with multiple ball marks. They need to be punched and sanded.
Despite paying for 18, we left the course after 9 due to slow play. We won't be returning.
Slow....
If you are not in a rush, and can work with a 5 hour round plus, then you will enjoy this course. The greens were pretty good. They were not as slow as the pace of play, but they were not fast either. Some rough spots here and there, but overall rolled pretty good. I am playing there again this weekend and hope the rangers can manage the pace of play. I like the course and would recommend you play it if you are considering. The staff was great.
Pace of Play - ALWAYS
Love the course but while they have starters, it seems the starters are only that. If they have "marshals" they dont use them. You might see someone drive by once a round but they do nothing to improve the pace. You just have t listen to the cart GPS devise tell you that you are behind. If you are waiting on every shot, please dont ask me to speed up. Use your marshals to figure out where the issue is and fix it. ALWAYS slow here!
