Golfer Reviews
Great golf course. Layout is very good. Always enjoy playing this course. Some of the fairways and greens need to be maintained better. This would really improve the overall appearance of the course. The cart paths are in horrible condition and have been for years now. They have been totally neglected. It is very difficult to drive your cart on the paths.
This Course has Nice Potential
This course needs attention!! Players like to play here. I have seen Players who are members at other clubs who come and play here. The reason being, the course layout is challenging and tests the skills of low handicaps as well. There are so many scenic holes like number 1, 8, 14, 16, etc., nd the course length is par with some of the nicer PGA courses. So, to summarize, if the management can do something on some of the areas that need attention,, this could become a popular choice for many golfers.
The sand bunkers were just repaired pathetically. Seems like they hired a sand contractor and dumped the white sand into the bunkers. Some holes have more than twice the capacity of the sand, some still needs attention. No raking, leveling, etc. of any kind in the bunkers.
The cart paths... if they don't do something about this soon, someone is going to get hurt badly. It is a huge liability and management, please don't tell me no one warned you. Please fix this ASAP!! You will do yourself a favor.
Now, the Greens which used to be in nice shape is showing dry spots,, fungus, etc. It is sad to see that this course which has such a nice potential is going down the drain for lack of maintenance and attention.
Great course to play
Due to the recent hurricane that came thru; the course was cart path only...but was in GREAT shape. The 15th hole was completely washed out by the storm, so golfers were asked to skip that hole. The bunkers were also washed out because of the storm. The greens were rolling true and firm, with the exception of maybe 4 that are in need of attention because of disease (holes 4, 14 and 17 come to mind immediately). Great course. Great design. Highly recommend playing
Nice course
Really nice course, hard layout. Bring your A game. Lunch was good as well.
One concern - and not to be too political - but staff should NOT be wearing a MAGA hat and facemask (the staff that was wearing a facemask), or honestly anything political. Not appropriate for a country club, specifically a staff member
Surprised
I played here many many years ago and the course has taken a sharp downturn.
It starts with the grumpy old man at the bag drop who should hang up his golf shoes if that ornery about still working. Then get ready for a backache which ironically comes from how bad the cart path conditions are across the entire course and that’s putting it lightly. A mountain bike would have paired better with these paths. Pair that with a non-golf hole or two(number 9 can’t be argued) and a washout where they should have never let anyone out on the course and you have a subpar review. Double bogey course at best that I will avoid for another 15 years or when my memory gives out :)
Soggy Day
No mention of the driving range being closed. No beverage cart. No mention of a hole being entirely unplayable until getting to the course. Greens in rough shape.
Course played well
Played St Marlo for the first time in a long time. Course in great shape, greens were rolling well. Marshall and bag drop crew were very friendly . Pace of play was great in fact we might’ have slowed up others as we had one person of disability.
Thanks St Marlo
Cart paths are terrible
You must replace nearly all if the cart paths. They are terrible and is hard on back hitting pot holes and broken concrete. Course was in good shaoe.
Rude starter
Stater told me I was antisocial because I preferred playing as a single
Pace was very slow, so I asked to skip a hole then I played fairly rapidly.
Course conditions were inconsistent from hole to hole. The course itself is pretty challenging, traps surround many holes, water on sides, fairways are pretty wide though.
Poor Greens & Tee Boxes
The greens are extremely bumpy and slow. Most of the tee boxes are destroyed and not level at all, so you usually have to tee off in a different/flat area.
Great Potential Ignored
This course has the potential to be 5 stars. Great layout, fun to play, fairways are good. They do not take care of the greens and a lot of tee boxes are in rough shape. Has nothing to do with aeration, ball marks everywhere. They are charging for a course that existed in the past. Go to RiverPines in Alpharetta or Hampton Golf Village in Cumming. Last I played there were a bunch of singles and twos coming up behind us. Did not see a ranger once to regulate.
Great course. Slow pace of play
Everything was great except for having to wait every tee box to watch the 4 some ahead lose 500 balls in the trees.
A SURE SHOT FUN TIME
So... St. Marlo is a "Go To" golf course for sure... The staff is friendly; the course is challenging and the superintendent is doing a super job keeping is "tight". The greens need some love and clearly some have a bit of fungus to deal with, but still roll nice and true. (only a few rough spots). Be ready for a challenging course with changes in elevation, some tight dog legs and your occasional extra narrow fairway. I mean, if the fairways were wide, this would be an easy sport right? ;) Great course and an excellent experience!! Try it out!
Above average
Second time playing there and the 2nd time was not quite as impressive as the first. Nice course, but I suppose due to COVID the course condition and up keep was not as good as the previous time in early March this year. I'll be back, in the spring of next year.
Needs maintenance
Course has a lot of potential. But the management does not invest in the maintenance. The cart paths are awful and poses a huge threat and liability. Somebody is going to get hurt. The greens are rotted with dry patches.
