Shame
A stunning course but poorly maintained.
Very sad to see because the layout is so good.
Having not been used for a while there is no reason for the course to not be in the best of shape.
Expensive for the quality.
This used to be a great course.....
There was a gaping crack all the way across the first green, bunkers had bare spots where you can see the lining, and other greens were very fuzzy. We have enjoyed playing here, but it seems that those in charge have stopped putting the same level of care into the upkeep of the course as they used to. I also appreciate that members are allowed off before non-members, but the pace of play has also become horrendous here. What happened to the pace of play clocks that used to be around the course? We will be removing this course from our rotation until things change.
Played with a Chiropractor
I have played golf in Atlanta for 40 years. This was my first time at St Marlo and my last. Before I comment on the cart paths, the course may have some nice topography but the placement of traps in the middle of fairways that are accessible from most all tee boxes was less than inviting. On one hole, all four of us hit drives in various locations of the fairway and all ended up four feet apart in a storm drain. Terrible design. Matts on the driving range were so worn I had an uphill lie after taking my stance. But more than our foursomes distaste for the course, the cart paths made this round of golf one we will never forget. I understand why the owner of the course lives in Taiwan... in order to keep players from picketing his home based on the unsafe and dangerous pieces of concrete they call a cart path. I love managements solution to the problem: buy a case of yellow paint and spray the edge of each slab. On second thought a case would not be enough. There is no doubt the owner leases his golf carts. Pathetic
Nice Course except Cart Paths
Very nice layout of fairways. Many are scenic holes due to elevation changes. Greens are true and fast. For some reason, ball from the Tee goes to the right on hole 9 And 15. Maybe the Tee boxes are slightly sloping down towards the ball. I play here a lot, but most every time the ball has gone towards right. If somebody can explain that will be Gr8. Hole 7 and 14 are very scenic. The major issue at this course are the cart paths. They are awful and if you don’t pay attention, it can ruin your back.
I don’t know why the management does not take this seriously. it can be a major liability issue if someone gets hurt.
Good course but cart paths are Pathetic
Nice course for repeat plays. But the cart paths are awful. If you are not paying attention it can ruin your back. I mean it!!
Wow
Great course just extremely windy. Courteous staff . Definitely will play again
TLC
Tough times with the shelter in place order so kudos for being open. Many of the tee boxes need some attention, and much of the course is still coming into bloom so not going to be too harsh. Greens were firm and fast which was a nice challenge compared to other nearby courses being the opposite right now.
Can't been the twilight tee pricing so it was good to get out and loosen up the sticks ahead of the warmer weather ahead.
St. Marlo’s
Course is in good shape except the tee boxes are a little rough. Greens run true and fairly quick. Bunkers are baked in...But understandable due to rake-less conditions due to Covid-19. Staff did a nice job in complying with “touch-less experience”. Needed to call the restaurant 5 times before someone finally answered to take our lunch order. Food was hot and delicious. Overall, we enjoyed our experience at St. Marlo’s!.
Regret not playing here sooner!
This was our first time playing the St. Marlo course, so we opted for the White tees as we attempted to get familiar with the layout. Th Whites still allowed us to hit almost every club in the bag, but the Blue/White combo or Blue tees probably would have been a more appropriate challenge for our group.
The fairways and greens were great, although I often saw more break in my putts than what resulted. The tee boxes were better than I had read about in other reviews. There are a few places where the cart parts are in tough shape, but I always found them to be painted yellow to call attention to those spots. The bunkers were out of play given COVID-19, so I can't comment on them other than to say they appear to have a lot of sand in them are are strategically placed. While the range was not open yet, it does look adequate for both warm-up and practice, as needed. The staff was friendly and the Starter was helpful given it was our first time.
With all the elevation changes, this is not a walking course. However, the elevation and banking makes the course both visually interesting and challenging. We will be back!
Great course
Fairways were in great shape. Greens were FIRM and fast. The only course issues were the tee boxes (most were in horrendous condition), the cart paths are terrible and the bunkers (which I understand).
St. Marlo golf course
Great layout, truly enjoyed the course. Will definitely go back!
Great value. Staff was very friendly. I was the first one out in the morning so obviously the pace of play didn't apply to me. Cart paths and a few tee boxes could use some attention. The course is a little gimmicky, especially for a first timer playing by himself. Would be interested in coming back with a little course knowledge.
Nice course but very bad cart path
Course is very nice. Keeps you coming back. But the cart paths are awful. They need addressing or else someone is going to get hurt badly.
Nice course
Course is nice. But the cart path needs drastic work. Someone is going to get his back hurt badly. Some portions near hole 2, 3, 6, 10, 14, and 16 are terrible and need fixing ASAP!!!
Nice course for the money. Weekends are very expensive.
Some of the areas were still wet due to rain. But overall conditions are great. The difficult holes are number 9 and 15. !5 looks straight but for some reason the ball from the Tee goes to the right towards the creek. so beware. In summer time this hole also has snakes.
Good course
Nice course. Some of the Tee boxes need more grass. Fairways are clean, Greens are clean. Cart path are terrible. Need drastic repair measures. May even hurt someone's back.
