Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort - North/South
About
The 27-hole golf course designed by Ted Robinson is the centerpiece of Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa. The holes are divided into the North, South, and West nines, which each offer a unique set of challenges. They are played in three different 18-hole combinations that showcase the best of California desert golf. The North/South is the shortest of the three courses. The fairways are wide but lined with swaying palms. The layout can be tight in some sport and a few holes have water hazards but overall it is a very player-friendly course. Mount Jacinto serves as a backdrop to the golf course, providing stunning scenery throughout the round. The course is popular for its playability but it also provides a conveniently quick round that can be played in less than four hours.

Disaster on the course
Recent rain shut down 9 holes of this 24 hole golf course. We were told by the pro shop we’d be playing 15 holes only, no biggie. Range is closed. The starter sent us off on the 1st and we tee’d off. Then a different starter angrily approaches us and tells us we’re supposed to tee off on the west course. Doesn’t give us any instructions and expects us to find it ourselves over a mile away. He also didn’t explain that hole 1-3 literally don’t exist although the signage is still there. So we eventually make it to hole 4 of the west course. I can see past the mud due to recent rain, but the greens were spotty and there were human sized goose turds lining the greens. Yikes. Pace of play was a disaster based on the fact that people were clamoring all over trying to play 18 holes of golf on a 15 hole course. Groups jumping in front and behind. No Marshalls in sight. My twosome joined the twosome in front of us to make a 4 some and make the best of our time on the course. We won’t be coming back when there are dozens of other local courses in the area for a similar or better price.
course partially closed
due to heavy rain the days before, only the south course was fully available..the other 9 hole course had 4 holes closed..range was closed due to flooding...staff was good, but no reduction in price...so played the South Course twice..
seemed a little pricey for what we played
Not playable
The North Course runs through the watershed valley that cuts through the course. It was extremely muddy. If you hit your all anywhere near the mud, you likely had to leave it. This nine should not have ben open. Not only was it inconvenient, it was dangerous in spots.
Dirty and poor layout
The course has potential but ...
There are deep canyons with drainage ditches in many places. I'll guess the ditches are partly to blame for the garbage (cups, lids, wrappers) strewn over much of the course. Hit a ball into the mess and it is lost!
The fairways were not mown when we played. Actually lost two balls hit down the middle (garbage to blame her).
Maybe they will clean it up but play somewhere else until January.
New Experience
First time we played the course. The heavy grass and hills were challenging. Some of the course needed attention but overall, it was fun!
Fun course
A little expensive for this time of year, but the staff was great Danny the starter Jeffrey and Juan outside services are awesome and Alice the first assistant is very friendly! and always willing to assist.
Only 9 open
Was excited to play this course for such a great price. Unfortunately only 9 hole were open today. They did say I could play them twice which is nice but I wish I would have known sooner.
Played this course many times, never been in worse shape. Pace of play was terrible and in the off-season when you should fly thru the course. I left after 9. I wasn't informed that only the North course was open either.
Typically enjoy Rancho, very disappointed this time.
Interesting Layout Let Down by Poor Condition and Service
The golf course itself was interesting due to its challenging layout that tested our game. However, the overall experience was disappointing. The lack of greenery on the course was noticeable, and the condition of the greens was really poor, clearly not well-maintained.
Furthermore, the significant distance between the parking lot and the first tee, with no shuttle or staff available to assist with the golf cart, was a major inconvenience. The absence of ice in the golf cart on such a hot day didn't help matters. As for amenities, the club cleaning box was unusable due to the lack of water.
The service was the most negative aspect. No warm welcome or farewell, just a car number shouted without any courtesy.
With the multitude of quality golf options in the area, I don't think I will be returning to this establishment
Floods, Families, Sewage Oh My!
This review covers South and North only. One hole was flooded out with water fountain and sprinklers flowing with water. At one point we caught up to a family with 3 carts and 4 children and two adults all playing and not minding a twosome behind. We are very patient golfers and love seeing families on the course, but 6 players and 30 minutes later, we had to skip the hole and play on. Several holes play through what seems like a “wash” and at the bottom is a river of what smells like raw sewage. Don’t hit your ball in it! Overall just a poor excuse for a golf course. Is it really associated with the Omni? If so, come on guys. You can do better.
Experience
Played the south and north courses. The south was really good, but the north was questionable at best.
Good course for the money
Course is in reasonable shape fast greens some tight holes fun to play staff were great restaurant and bar were closed but nice steady play
