Desert Island Country Club

Course was in great shape, except the greens. They were hit with a fungus issue. It wasn't terrible and the rest of the course made the whole round a fun experience. Good times and I recommend it.

DICC is a straight forward, tree lined , old school Palm Desert track. The employees are welcoming and the facility looks like it has a bar/restaurant/patio option (we didn’t stay to eat). There were burned out areas of a lot of the greens but they didn’t affect putts to the level that aeration does. Fairways & tee boxes were excellent. Bunkers were probably a B- some hard sand; others softer fluffier sand. Appears 2 groups of regulars ahead of us joined up to create a 5some but it didn’t impact pace much. This course is definitely in our rotation! Kudos

Course was better than expected - grass range, several super interesting holes. Course was in great shape all around. Only paid 75, would have had a tougher time finding value at full retail though. Greens were tough but true, in great shape

Starter was amazing. Greens a little rough at times. Wish they would’ve had bathrooms and cart amenities on the course.

The good - the course design is interesting and the fairways are in pretty good shape. The amenities are old, 70’s to 80’s feel but reasonably kept up and clean. Service is okay. The practice putting green is in good shape.

The bad - the greens are in horrible shape with fungus. This is the case especially on the front nine holes. The fungus problem is not as bad on the last nine holes but so prevalent that you will be putting through it and it will effect the roll.

The ugly - there is absolutely NO sand in the bunkers. The bunkers are machine raked and there may be a few millimeters of sand and that is it. Under this is wet dirt, mud. Super hard to hit a bunker shot from this condition. There are many courses to choose from in the greater Palm Springs area, in no way is this course worth the $150 green fee. There are many options in this price range that offer far superior playing conditions.

Desert Island is a well- maintained and comfortable course for the average golfer; and you can easily walk! We’ve played Desert Island many times over the years we’ve been coming to Rancho Mirage and it never disappoints. Highly recommended!

Course in great condition. Liked the layout, except for #9, too gimicky.

The course was in great shape. Three greens had patches of burn otherwise they rolled true and were well maintained.

I had an 11.50 tee off booked but due to a 35 degree weather forcaste I managed to be moved up to 10.45.

I played with 2 gentlemen similar age to myself, early seventies who were excellent company.

I found the course in really good condition and with some really well laid out holes especially around the lake.

The greens were very fair with many subtle deviations.

Shame about the damage to some of the greens caused by a virus I think.

Would love to play this course next time I am back from thr UK.

Desert Island is a little hidden gem in the desert.

With all the big name fancy resort courses in the vicinity, Desert Island seems to get lost in the conversation. Located conveniently in Rancho Mirage within shouting distance of PS International, it’s super easy to hop on going to or coming from, easy access super friendly staff and fun little course.

Greens run 9ish, fairly accommodating fairways and rough, well maintained, almost no dry areas, the 9th hole is a tricky multiple over the water fairway and approach situation.

Good course for mid handy’s!
