BV staff top notch in my book
Took my family to BV on a Sunday before Labor Day, so obviously it was packed. We are a family of 3 w/my son who has ASD. Clubhouse wanted to group a 4th into our group, but I explained the "situation" to one of the members of the staff, and how some golfers can be flat out disrespectful when it comes to dealing with people with disabilities. And how I wanted tp afford a potential conflict. He was very considerate and understanding . Thankfully, he did not group a 4th into our group. It was a 6hr day, but we enjoyed the day. Thank you, BV!
Greens are much softer
Its been about 5 months since my last play here, but the greens are noticeably greener, fuller, and softer. I noticed this straight away on the first green.
During my play it was apparent course maintenance crew were out. Two riding mowers and personnel hand watering the greens. Very good to see staff hard at work, working the course.
In spite of this effort to improve the course, it was a disappointment to see evidence of players still not fixing their ball marks.
Good course, close to home.
BV is 20min from home. Good course. Super basic pro shop. My cart was clean. No bunkers at all. Pace was fantastic on Friday morning at 6:30am. Finished my round in a little over 3hrs. Some of the greens are rough with some bare patches here and there. Most are nice though. They don’t give sand to fix divots, so if your ball lands in one, just move it out. Overall good course and will play there again.
Bernals review
overall, the course is well kept and challenging. The staff are always friendly and courteous. The clubhouse offers a great pub food, which is tasty and refreshing.
BV
stafff was friendly and course was in good nick - absolutely great value for your dollar
1st at the coarse
Recently moved to Bakersfield, great course to play , fast moving and good greens
Fun course to play
Really fun course to play love the slope and super high locations on some holes really good course
BV is the course for champions!
BV is a beloved golf course because it is not like any other course out there. BV is not for the light hearted golfer or the golfer looking for country club conditions. If you expect perfectly manicured fairways, fluffy white sand bunkers, level tee boxes, and pristine greens, you are at the wrong place.
The “bunkers” are mostly dirt, rocks, and the occasional boulder. The fairways feel like the rough, and the actual rough feels looks it’s straight out of Oakmont during the U.S. Open. The bathrooms on the course look more like outhouses, and the hazards range from broken down machinery to tree branches that have been sitting there long enough to become part of the course design.
You will find unfixed divots, random dirt patches, little craters, and even water puddles on the greens. And some uneven tee boxes that seem to challenge your balance as much as your golf game. And the carts feel like they might fall apart at any moment, which somehow makes them even more fun. Every bump feels like you are off roading rattling down the fairways laughing with your buddies while hanging on for dear life.
But that is exactly what makes BV awesome.
BV does not pretend to be something it is not. It is gritty, rugged, unpredictable, and full of character. It is the kind of course that tests you and just enjoy the chaos with your friends. Every bad bounce, every rocky bunker, and every sketchy cart ride becomes part of the experience.
There is a beauty to BV that you just will not understand until you play it. It is golf stripped down to its rawest form. I highly recommend it. Only thing is sometimes pace of play could be sped up.
Over booking
Did not know that there was a company tournament on the same day. We played behind the tournament and it felt like it was over booked. The first nine holes was hit and wait. After the nine holes it got better but I think it was because a lot of players left. It took us almost 6 hours for 18 holes. Making it a long day...
Good for the money.
Good course for the money. Driving range leaves a bit to be desired. Just the basics in the pro shop (idk if I’d even call it that). The grill is fantastic though. Good food and it comes real quick. Prices are definitely reasonable as well. It’s a course I frequent here in the Bakersfield area and will continue to.
