The Ocean Course is one of two championship courses at Kona Country Club. As its name implies, this course has an oceanfront location with views of the surrounding mountains that are home to its sister course, the Mountain Course. The Ocean Course provides an easier, but no less enjoyable round than its sibling. The layout features wide-open fairways and numerous strategically placed sand bunkers. The turquoise waters and black lava outcroppings provide natural hazards. The signature holes are the third and 12th, but one of the most memorable is the 13th hole where during November through March, you can catch a glimpse of a humpback whale. While both Kona C.C. golf courses provide a variety of challenges, the Ocean Course is a gentle, more player-friendly option that still features the same stunning views as the Mountain Course.

An absolute gem

This course was fantastic from start to finish. First, patiently I waited for a hot deal to come out and the price to drop. Usually, the round costs $180 per person, but the hot deal dropped it down to $69 on the day of play. From that moment forward, the course was fantastic. The views are outstanding. The course condition was perfect and pace of play was about 3:45 for my 11-year-old son and I. Another huge plus, the staff was so welcoming especially to my junior son. I highly recommend Kona Country Club if you are playing on the Big Island.

Great Time despite the Spider

I have played this course other times and the greens were extremely fast. Today they were just perfect. The pin placements seemed a bit easier for me. Just had a great time, pace of play was great, weather comfortable, breezy. Screamed like a girl when a Huge Spider was crawling up my shirt after I went looking for some lost balls in the brush.

Beautiful oceanside holes

Course has generous fairways, but with ample bunkering to penalize wayward shots. Many picturesque holes along the water. Greens were very slow the day we played, but may have been due to recent rain.

Kona Country Club- Ocean

Played an afternoon round from the white tees. I was solo and had a few groups ahead, so played at a very leisurely pace. Course is in good shape. Most greens were on the slow side, but some surprised me, had more 3 putts than desired, and I need to learn how to better read the grain and slopes on Hawaiian greens. Had nice conversations with the refreshment cart employee. Great experience overall.
