Richter Park Golf Course
About
Situated at the heart of Fairfield County, Richter Park Golf Course is situated along the West Lake Reservoir. The course has been ranked among not only the top ten golf courses in Connecticut but also as one of the top 25 public courses in the country. The course sprawls across more than 180 acres of gently rolling hills. Water has a prominent presence throughout, with the Reservoir bordering seven holes on the front nine and water hazards coming into play on a total of 14 holes. In addition to the water, there are a variety of elevation changes ranging from subtle to dramatic, which can make it a tough golf course to play your first time. Be prepared for a few blind shots. Richter Park's signature hole, the par-5 12th, is bordered by Boggs Pond. Your third shot will be over water to a bunkered green.

Dissapointing yet AGAIN
I'm not sure why everyone raves about this course. At one time IT WAS the best place to play in the area. There were 3 temp greens the day I played and the other greens were in deplorable shape.
The course should be CLOSED to allow the greens to recover.
Last time I played this course was appx 1.5 years ago and they were having trouble with their greens back then. Not sure why this problem persists , but its on an ongoing issue.
Pace of play was 5 hours.
Also, they did not properly honor my Golfnow tee time and we had to wait 35 minutes due to a double booking of the tee time slot.
Sorry to say, but I am officially giving up on this course for good. There are many other courses in CT that are cheaper, better and faster pace of play.
Goodbye Richter Park!!
3 Tempoary Greens...and then some.
Was looking forward to playing this course for a while, boy was I disappointed. I know a lot of the damage was due to the harsh winter, but I've played a few in the Hartford area and they are doing just fine. Fairways and greens were beat up pretty bad. Lots of dead spots. Pace of play was sooooo slow. Almost 5 hrs for 3 of us. It's gonna be a while before I attempt to play here again. Only positive is traffic wasn't bad at all on our way back to Wallingford.
Once Hidden Gem, Now Deprived Rock
I played this course multiple times from 2007-10 and it was one of my favorite courses in Fairfield county, public or private. The layout and beauty of the course is truly New England.
I noticed this course on GolfNow the other week and was excited to play it again due to the quality of golf I had once enjoyed. That is no longer the case. Not sure what happened, but it looks like the maintenance crew is asleep at the wheel.
The greens, if they are open, are awful and inconsistent. Some roll true, some are significantly slower, some are beaten to death and have large pockets of dirt and then some are temp greens. I was amazed at how bad the greens were. Fix the greens and the course is the best value in Connecticut.
Hopefully with some better maintenance this course will return to it's former glory. I can see why it stopped hosting AJGA and Met PGA events back in 2009. The course is not cared for anymore. Still a great layout and a deal for $40 at 7am on a holiday weekend. Perhaps they raise the prices 10 bucks and put that into the course. Golfers would appreciate some up keep.
Course is in shambolic condition
7 or 8 temporary greens and the greens that were open were bad/awful. Fairways were hairy and not well manicured. Really disappointing as it was once a class course with great views.
Richter Park
3 temporary greens should have had 4 or 5 because most of the greens were in terrible shape. Very disappointed in the conditions. Won't play here again for quite a while
great view and fairways.
3 temporary greens and bare spots in greens were disappointment but expected. It is still heck of course to play.
Horrible Greens
Three temporary greens (which we knew) and 15 greens that just might have been unplayable.
Winter damage
The course was beat up from the winter, 3 temp greens and all other greens were bad. They only charged 42 bucks so they discounted the normal rate based on conditions.
Winter took its toll on this cou4sw3
We played this course last year and it was excellent. Yesterday it was not. There were three temporary greens, and they really should have closed a few more. The better greens were still in rough shape The fairways were also very challenging because of the damage done by the winter. We'll try this course again next year.
Richter Shotgun Start
Format was great in that the 10am shotgun start allowed the weather to warm up at this time of year. The leaf blowing was excellent considering the time of year, but the only thing bad about the course was that they aerated ALL 18 holes and the greens were a mess!! Would have been upset and probably would have asked for a refund if paying full price, but got a Golf Now Hot Deal. Can't wait to go back next year!
Beautiful course
The course was beautiful and well maintained. The rangers are there for those blind holes to help keep pace of play. Great day!
Wonderful and challenging course
Just a wonderful course. A bit dried out due to lack of rain in the last month, but otherwise in very good condition. The sand in the bunkers was dry and loose. The best part of this course is the variety of holes which test every part of one's game: water holes, elevated tee boxes, long narrow fairways, well-guarded greens, and plenty of doglegs. And the course is very aesthetically pleasing. Definitely will play there again.
Golf Now HOLE IN ONE!
First one in 30 years! Never would have been on the course if it wasen't for the Great Rate on Golf Now!
Beautiful day
Great day, weather-wise. Course was in excellent condition, especially considering the lack of rain. Pace of play was dreadful. More rangers needed to expedite play.
A good time
My friend and I played Richter for the first time yesterday. Course was in good shape. Greens were very slow and in average shape. Great layout. Very challenging and the scenery is beautiful.
Beautiful course
very slow, 2hr. 35min for 9 holes. Beautiful course, in great condition and friendly staff.
Saturday
No Rangers in the afternoon. Couldn't finish the round. Found out a few holes a head of us were 2 adults with 4 young approx 10-12 year olds running all over the course. After the morning rush there are no rangers or course supervision. Pay good money not to finish
Nice course
Nice course but pace of play was painfully slow. Only finished 17 holes in 5 hours before it was too dark.
Greens used to be faster!
Tees, fairways, greens and sand all in great condition.,. But,I love fast greens, and was expecting these to be faster! I used to play here often years ago and greens rolled faster back then., These were 8-10 today in my opinion. I think this is a fun and challenging course. It has a couple of blind tee shots with mirrors above to guide as a for caddy would. This is the type of course that makes you want to play it often to learn the slopes and angles for lower scores.
Top 10 course
One of my favorite courses
A lot of challenges with a fantastic scenery
The 19th hole is fabulous too!
