Blackledge Country Club - Anderson's Glen
About
Blackledge Country Club is home to two championship golf courses that are both known as some of the best golf in the greater Hartford area. Opened in 1963, Anderson Glen is known as the "Old Course" while Gilead Highlands, opened in 2000, is known as the "New Course." The older course has a more traditional layout but it is just as challenging. The golf course sprawls across acres of lush countryside, providing plenty of trees and water hazards. There are some elevation changes that can cause uneven lies as well as some undulation in the greens and fairways. The 13th is a particularly notable par 3 for its scenery but also its level of difficulty. Although the downhill tee shot will only require a short iron there is trouble all around in the form of protective bunkers and a pond.

The second hole’s bold right side bunker might snag a long hitter’s rightward-erring drive. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

Hole two, again (seen from behind green): It is cast in the mold of classic short par-4. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

The long, par-5 fourth has a wealth of particularly troublesome hazards, stretching all the way from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

Set upon a small plateau, green six is also narrow, so landing on it in regulation calls for a very clean iron shot. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

The seventh’s deviously sloped green is sided by deep bunkers, serving to punish wayward approaches. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

2nd Hole: A 'routine' downhill par-4, but far from a pushover. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

The third: A long hole that is also long on trouble. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Five, looking back on hole: challenging, uphill 374-yard four-par. (Greenside bunkers out of view from this angle). Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Eight, from behind: A superb par-three. On the other side of the mounds are large bunkers to catch weak approaches. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Comfortable Golf
Course is wide open but challenging. A fun and comfortable day.
Challenging layout but playable for the average golfer
The greens had been aerated the day before but were already in decent shape and were not too difficult to putt on. Blackledge has 2 different 18 hole courses which challenge the average to above average golfer yet allow a less skilled golfer to enjoy the experience. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Good course.
Good course, especially when get a discount.
Challenging, but not overly tough.
excellent greens for time of year
Always enjoy playing this course. Staff is friendly and
cooperative. Overall play is reasonably paced.
No surprises.
Would be nice if carts had windshields. A little comfort when chilly or wet.
Restaurant and bar area are friendly and offer a good variety of food and drink.
Bathrooms are clean.
Could use more portable restrooms on the course especially for the ladies.
Always pleased to pay this course.
Plan to come back again as often as I can.
Always a good time
Challenging and well maintained.2 great courses to choose from never overplayed.
+ 5 hour rounds
Love the course but every time we play on the weekends it's at least a five plus hour round.
Good course in good shape
This is one of the best course values in the area Iplay it every chance i get It has two 18s so there is no trouble in getting a starting time
Great condition early in the season
Pro shop is pretty far from parking lot. Man behind the counter was not very friendly and would not get off the phone to address his customers. Despite the shaky start had no complaints about the actual golf course. Moderate-Challenging difficulty. Not many hazards but the course is not wide open by any means. Wind can get heavy so pay attention to club selection. For $35 I would highly recommend Andersons Glen
Ok Course to Play
Everything about the Anderson Course is average - conditions, difficulty level, value, etc. Its only my first choice when convenience matters. There is nothing remarkable about the layout. The best thing about the course is the 19th hole. Great food and a nice patio outside.
Great for the money!
3 middle age guys, all shoot around 100 give or take how cold the beer is... Course was in good shape, being air rated so its good for the rest of the season. We had to wait 30 mins for our buddy to show up, and the starter was very accommodating with no real care about it. A couple old guys got mad and threw our ball at us from opposite fairway, sorry we are not tiger woods. Over all great deal for 18 and a cart for $25. Not worth $50-60 right now but end of season this place will be beautiful with the landscape.
Better of the 2 courses at Blackledge
I find the conditions at the Gilead courses slightly better than Anderson course. I also like the layout much better and find it more challenging. It is a fair value. Small bar/snack shop on site but need to go to main course for full restaurant and better bar / patio.
The views were astounding.
The drive to the course was full of show stopper autumn colors and the course was nothing less than the icing on the cake. A few holes were hard to find your ball with the leaves on the ground, but course was in great condition. Sand traps are not well maintained - very hard packed (but it is mid October). This was the first time I had played this course. I would definitely play this course again.
great course great condition
played fairly tough cause of wind otherwise great public course in wonderful condition winter rules not needed at all
Greens were in excellent condition.
I would prefer to see a second apron cut around the greens.
Some tees need upgrading.
Need more hazard and out of bounds stakes.
Some rocks in traps.
Challenging course with some easy holes and some strong holes.
Course in good condition but traps could have been better - packed sand in several.
Nice Track
Well maintained. Good value for money. Decent greens.
pace of play very slow- needed a ranger to keep people moving- we had a grandfather giving lessons to two boys on every hole
the couse was in fair conditon - a few tee boxes were sloped on the ladies tees
Great course, in very good shape, some pretty challenging holes.
Very good value. Course was in great shape and the staff was very friendly. We had a great time and the pace of play was great. I'd recommend the Anderson Course as a great place to play a round of golf with friends.
