Too Cold to Finish
My wife and I were first time players on this course and had heard great things about it. We played late afternoon (3 pm) and didn't really expect to finish all 18 holes. The day was sunny and in the 60s. First thing we noticed was that the entire course was aerated, including the fairways and greens. Putting was bumpy. Second issue was that the electric cart died on hole 4. Luckily they had a GPS system that allowed us to call the clubhouse to get another cart. Got one in about 15 minutes. Third was the weather changed so that the wind picked up to 15 mph and the temp dropped into the low 50s. The final blow came on hole 11. There were two groups waiting at the tee and you could see that the remainder of the course was packed. So we waited and played 11 and 12, then decided that it was too cold and windy to continue, so we left.
We'll try the course again in the near future and hope we get a better day, cart, and course conditions..
Too early in the year to play here
Can't complain for $25 to play a great course but late-March was just too early after a long, cold winter. The greens had been aerated in early March according to an employee but were still brown, sandy and bumpy.
The grass hadn't started growing so the tee boxes and fairways were still pretty bare and of course almost none of their famous flowers and bushes were in bloom yet.
This is a 5-star course in-season but only rates 3 stars at this time of year.
Very well kept course!
Although the greens were aerated recently, the whole experience was worth the discounted rate for sure. Love the course! All staff were very friendly!
A must play in the MD and DE area!
This is my favorite course. The staff is super friendly. The course is always well maintained and in the summer is spectacular. Very challenging layout with an island fairway. Lots of water and sand traps. This is a must play for anyone in the MD and DE area. You will not be disappointed.
Great course
This is a great course with one big exception, the greens. It is my opinion that they are getting too much sand into the greens. They take forever to heal after aeration.
BAYWOOD
I'VE PLAYED BAYWOOD MANY TIMES, THIS IS ONE OF THE FINEST GOLF COURSES YOU WILL EVER PLAY. EVEN THOUGH JUST AIRATED THE GOLF NOW PRICE WAS UNBELIEVABLE. THIS IS A MUST PLAY COURSE DURING THE SPRING AND SUMMER WHEN THE FLOWERS AND LANDSCAPING IS AT IT'S BEST. IF YOU PLAY IT ONCE, YOU WILL DEFINITELY PUT ON YOU NEXT GOLF TRIP SCHEDULE
great course great price during the winter
this is one of the best courses anywhere. prices are good in the winter and high in the summer as you would expect for a great course in a resort location
Still My Favorite Course in the Area!
I've always loved the entire package at Baywood Greens. (layout, club house, eye candy galore, etc.)
However, when you play in the winter months they are always doing A LOT of maintenance work. This means several holes have dug up areas, workers standing in the fairway, carts always zooming by when you are swinging, etc. The greens were also recovering from a recent aeration and you had only 2 choices on the tee...... the women's tees or the beast tees! REALLY... who made that call? They also started us on #10 when I played.... THANK THE LORD that they didn't jam us up and they kept that format throughout the day. There was several areas that had water standing too.
All this being said I still love the place. They should just be more hospitable during the off-season with the prices and remember that the folks on the course are the customers.
Baywood Green is a great course
This course is always $100 + in the summer; and probably worth every penny. Playing in Feb., the only thing missing was the normal $1,000,000 worth of flowers. Conditions were great. It's generally cart path only in Feb. The happy hour in the clubhouse is a "don't miss".
Baywood Greens good for the time of year
Traveled from Baltimore to the Eastern Shore, (Delaware) to play this course. During the summer, beautifully landscaped course, but @ a price. But during the winter, the course is stripped of its showy, floral accoutrements, and beneath lies a really playable course. Very fair, with an interesting "island fairway" Par 4.
The greens had a "late aeration," (they were still pretty bumpy), but for $19.00, what a bargain!
Great Layout
Great couse to play but it looks like they aerated the greens late in the season last year so they are playable but pretty bumpy.
They call this course Augusta North and for good reason
Even in the dead of winter in the northeast, this course is fun and challenging to play.
Great place to play!!
Looking forward to playing there again. Very nice layout and great sites on every hole.
great course
It was a great day. I played there with my father in law on my b-day. The course was very chalenging since we mistakenly played from the longest t-boxes! It looked like a country club style. first 9 is fun and more challenging. few island holes which added to the fun! the range was very nice as well! i would play there again in summer time.
Great Course
Got a hot deal from Golfnow and played for $34 on a 60 degree December day. I loved the layout and heard this course is gorgeous in the Spring/Summer when they landscape for the season. Both the fairways and greens were aerorated, but I'm not complaining with the price I payed. This course if pricy during the in-season but I would definitely come back.
Excellent layout and well maintained
It was an excellent course but at the time we played yesterday it was right after the whole-course airation. And the windy weather blew leaves all over the place. We did not enjoy as much but it was unfortunate timing, not the course.
Alot of fun playing this course
Im a golfer that averages between 95 and 105 and found this course to be challenging for me especially the Island fairway. Had a great round for me with a 95 playing from the black tees. The course was in great shape and the staff outstanding. I had alot of fun and will go back for sure.
Great layout but disappointed not told the greens had just been aerated
The course was a great layout and fun to play. I was very disappointed because we were not told that they had just aerated all of the greens and about a fourth of the fairways. The greens were terrible to putt on because of that and often times hitting from the fairway was akin to hitting out of a sand trap. The layout was great but I would have played somewhere else had I known of the condition. I wish they would have forewarned us, it was poor form to fail to do that. I gave it four stars based on what I would expect if course was in good condition, the only problem was not being told we would be playing in such poor conditions.
Very nice course, poor value
I've played this course many times. It is visually appealing, with meticulous attention to detail. This applies to the playing areas as well as the "decorative" plantings. Sometimes known as "the Augusta of the North." Yes, it is that nice!
As for the playing area, it is very well maintained. Fairways are fairly generous, although stray tee shots can find OB or trouble in this mostly tree-lined course. Greens are receptive, a touch on the fast side for a public course and has break. The rough, although not overly long, is well maintained and thick. Water is a feature on many holes, with #14 being a great risk/reward hole. Hint: bring 2 sleeves with you.
All that being said, you will find the pace of play very s-l-o-w. 5+ hours is not un-common during the height of the season. The staff talks a good game regarding keeping up pace, but do not act to enforce the rules. GPS-equipped carts are banned from par 3's #I'm OK with that# and on 4 of the remaining 14 fairways, leaving a total of only 10 fairways that the GPS is useful. Cart path-only pay is not uncommon for 2-3 days after rains.
Now, the price. Be prepared for sticker shock during the season. Play during the shoulder season is less harmful to the wallet.
If you have the time and the $ while in the DE/MD beach areas, play this course.
holes 14-18 are as interesting as any finishing holes I've played
Temperature was around 50 degrees, and the wind was blowing about 20 mph, therefore it was a very challenging experience. Very accomodating staff, and the practice facilities were more than adequate.
