Disappointed
Pace of play was awful! One group on the back nine was holding up four other groups. Would have been nice if a Staff Member would have remedied this situation. Fairways had a few bare spots.
Best Price Around For An Upscale Course, Course Conditions Were Decent
Spencer T. Olin is one of my favorite St. Louis metro courses. The weekday senior rate of $40 can"t be beat. They do charge a 3% fee for using a credit card. Why not just put that cost in the price without highlighting it on a receipt. If someone pays with cash, just reduce the cost by 3% then. Most people pay by credit card. They also charge $9.96 for booking a tee time on-line. Why? You can call them up and get the same price. More work for the pro shop workers.
Tee boxes: all seemed in decent shape.
Greens: They putted on the slow side. 3 greens were showing some stress (6, 7, 11). All the greens have a shallow root system and are overwatered. Late in the round, when we walked on the greens, you could still see our shoe tracks leave impressions on the wet surfaces. Every shot into the green leaves a large, muddy ball mark.
The rough around several greens was brown. Holes 7 & 13 were the worse.
Unfortunately, the sprinkers came on while we were putting on the 5th green.
Fairways: They are trying to put some new sod down on several holes (6,11). Several of the fairways had two-toned grass (1, 10, 11). Not sure why. Maybe trying to kill some of the weeds. Could see where the goosegrass weed was turning a whitish color from some application being applied to kill it.
Get out and play Spencer. Fun course, great price and conditions are playable.
Course was in wonderful condition considering the ridiculously hot weather in the area. Staff was courteous and eager to please. Terrific design.

Course was in great shape. Cart path only on a very hot day was a killer. Cart girl got around to us several times. Staff was very friendly and nice

The course was in great shape. The temperatures and humidity were almost to much to bare. We survived but our game struggled as the energy we had disappeared from the heat. It was a good beside it being so hot.

Course was cart path only made it through on a very hot humid day. Course conditions were pretty good, wet conditions in some places. The cart girl made several trips by us which was a good thing needed to stay hydrated.
Spencer T is a challenge!
Course was in great shape. Staff was helpful in keeping pace of play moving.
Join Arnold's Army
One of my area favorites. Spencer T offers a challenging but fair golf experience. The course is in great shape. The greens were just rolled for the state amateur championship. Awesome!!
Pass of play issues
I’m not sure why they switched the nines around. I heard it was for pace of play improvement. The pace of play on Sunday was awful. Waited every hole. Their needs to be someone driving around, pushing people and penalizing people for getting into sixems. See far too much. Fantastic course but it’s gotten so much play this spring that the greens are starting to get beat up. They need to make an emphasis on improving ball marks.
For An Upscale Course - Greens Are Too Slow
Spencer T. Olin. one of the best courses in the St. Louis metro area. Weekend rate of $59 - you can't beat this on this upscale course.
The main reason for only a 3 star rating is the greens. They were the slowest greens I've played in 2025. The greens have a poor root struture and are overwatered. When your ball hits the green, it leaves a big smudge mark. The greens are littered with these smudge marks.
Some of the fairways and tees are not in good shape. Fairways (6, 10, 11) and tees (7, 14).
The course ranger was a joke. A young guy was just driving around picking up balls. Place of play was slow - a 5 hour round.
Always Great
Spencer is a gem and worth the drive to play. They've flipped the nines so that was a surprise since playing last year. A course that allows you to hit every club in your bag, which is nice. Forces one to think their way around the course so it remains a test. A fair test of golf for all handicaps. Staff is straightforward and no nonsense. People in the cafe are always pleasant. Love it and I like that pricing is reasonable and fair.
