Griffin Bell Golf & Conference Center
About
Formerly known as Americus Country Club, Griffin Bell Golf Links & Conference Center is situated between Andersonville and Plains. The 18-hole public course is owned and operated by Georgia Southwestern State University. It's a short course at only 6,096 yards from the back tees but it still presents quite a challenge. The layout features small, elevated greens that demand accurate iron shots. Mature trees frame most of the holes and there are strategically placed bunkers lurking beside the greens. Don't be surprised if you end up using every club in your bag. Though accuracy and good course management are essential for scoring well, Griffin Bell is not an overly punishing golf course for high handicappers. The course provides a challenging but fun round that players of all skill levels can enjoy.

Father/Son Outing
I was on a golf outing with my three sons, and we were supposed to play another course, but we cancelled that tee time to come over and play Griffin Bell. We were glad that we did. Even though the greens had been aerated the previous week and were a bit slow, they putted fine. A few greens had some dead areas, but it did not interfere with our putts. The range is quite a distance away from the clubhouse, so allow some extra time to get back to the box for your tee time. The fairways were good, but were a bit muddy in places due to some heavy rain the night before. The greens are smallish, and had many raised greens where you better not go long. My three sons and I had a great time after playing a course the previous day where the greens were not puttable. The course had a brand new clubhouse as well. Look forward to coming back.
In progress
They have been putting a lot of money into the course and are finishing a new clubhouse. The course is owned by the University. It’s a decent course in a rural area. It still needs major repairs to cart paths but the course looks good. Many courses in area have damaged greens from January snow but their greens are in good shape.
Willie Brown
Fast play, fairway and green are good. Greens were a little fast. Also, if ball lands on green it will not hold green. More a bump and run approach
Small greens baby
Course was nice not super long but nice greens are tiny so if your dialing in your short game this is the spot
The manger was super nice and greens where in great shape and fast !!!! Have fun great little course
Nice golf course.
Friendly staff greens good. Layout is confusing, , but construction is going on overall, I would recommend playing golf course.
It's just Ok
They are in the middle of a renovation to the clubhouse so everything was gated off and they were using trailers for the pro shop which is fine and understandable. I came there to play a twilight round on Sunday. There were no carts available. A member who was on the practice green was gracious enough to let me use his as he decided not to play because they had let out a 5some all using their own carts. I caught up to them after about 8 holes despite a gap. The course is fine. The greens were actually the best part of the course. Small but rolled nicely. The course and layout is ok. Not bad but nothing memorable. $45 might be a bit more than I would like to pay for this calibre of course.
Nice place to play
Once the new renovations are done things will be much better
Great Course
Only good greens around
I love this course! This the only public course in south west Georgia that has decent greens. The greens are great! First time playing and they are completely redoing the clubhouse. Which I don’t really care about. The only negative is the driving range is halfway down the cours e.
Southern Hospitality
Enjoyed the course even thought the greens were aerated. Staffer Rocky was the Best!!!
A course worth the challenge
This course offers different challenges for the average golfer. Located in town, I have always seen wildlife on this course. I am looking forward to seeing the new clubhouse. The new carts are great and the staff is very friendly.
Great course all around
Only issue was directions from hole 8 to hole 9. Other than that, the course difficulty was great not consistently difficult on every hole. Gave a perfect challenge for use of different clubs on each hole.
