About
Owned and operated by the Byron Forest Preserve District, Prairieview Golf Course sits on a scenic stretch of land that overlooks the Rock River. The layout will test different skills with plenty of variety, offering both open, links-style holes and tight, tree-lined holes. The design takes advantage of the rolling terrain, incorporating the varying elevations into the large and undulating greens. The breaks can make the greens hard to read and they're made even more challenging by more than 60 bunkers strategically places along the borders. There are also water hazards in the form of ponds and a meandering stream that come into play on five holes. In addition to the course, there is also a 15-acre practice facility with a driving range, two putting greens, and chipping and pitching greens with two bunkers.

Golfer Reviews
Based on Golf Advisor ratings, we made a weekend trip of golf courses around Rockford, IL. This was a challenging course with fast greens and great conditions.
CONDITIONS: Despite the drought going on in Summer 2023, the course was in great shape. The greens ran quite fast and true… it was fun putting on them. The tees and fairways were in good condition (given drought considerations). The bunkers were in great shape, and I appreciate they don’t put rakes in them… just use your shoe to tidy up your “mess.”
VALUE: You’ll find this course talked about as one of the best values available. It is! I’m not going to tell you what I paid to walk on a Friday morning, mostly because the tee sheet was already full and this course doesn’t need more people fighting to get on! :)
LAYOUT: This is, IMO, the one drawback of this course. The front 9 plays thru trees on flatter land to the north, while the back 9 play over hills and ridges to the south. This is great, and provides variety in terms of topography. However (and we played the White tees), there wasn’t much variety in terms of yardage. 11 of my 14 approach shots (not counting par 5s) were a 7- or 8-irons. All of the par 3s played to the same club, and except for #13 (which is a beautiful tee shot) all looked the same and went in the same direction. Maybe a Blue/White tee combo would help allow golfers to use a wider variety of clubs. This course is walkable.
STAFF: Very friendly and helpful. Thank you.
PACE: As a 2some we walked behind another 2some (they were in a cart) and a bunch of 4somes. Still, we finished in just under 3hr 30min. Fantastic!
The conditions at Prairieview are excellent, and the staff was great. It is probably the best value I’ve ever got in terms of playing golf.
Beautiful Course!
Beautiful course the pace of play was a bit slow! But great value and course design!
course worth the ride, liked the layout and exelent course conditions and surroundings
Loved it
There is a reason PrairieView ends up on so many "best golf values" lists. This place is great. Huge practice area, including a golf tracer lounge that is open all year. Greens are fast and true. Pick tees to suit your distance and let it rip!
Firm and Fast
Great layout! Checked in staff was friendly and courteous. Course is out in the country so about 30 mins from my house definitely worth the drive. Fairways were firm and fast if you caught those speed slots you were long. Greens were fast and true. It was warm today 86⁰ so the staff was definitely in touch with course conditions a guy was following us on the back 9 putting water on the greens. Love the tightly mown areas in front of the greens tight lies that you could put a putter on of you came up short which I did a couple of times. The rough is not long but it's healthy and
juicy. Not sure I would walk this course back 9 is hilly for sure. I will definitely go back! I am an 8.4 Handicap shot an 84 first time seeing this tract.
A real gem - too bad it's so far away
Got a great Hot Deal on a course recommended by a buddy who lives in the area. It exceeded our expectations and a bargain at the price. Great layout, nice clubhouse, super large putting green, and excellent course conditions. My cousin liked it so much that he went back the following week to play it again. It's a 75 min drive from my house but worth the drive.
Enjoyable
Green were fair and fast, rolled true. Overall a great experience.
A welcome enjoyment
More than a course- great condition (after two day rain)- pace of play was awesome & staff made you feel welcome- (1st time there)
Also. Sneak down to the range/prairifire restaurant and top golf feel.
Really glad we went !⛳️💚👍😎

Had a idea course would have fewer players cause of holiday. We were right. Still early in season for course to be in its best shape but our first time out this year too. Plus it showed... Love PrairieView golf course and we played for 33$ on a a Sunday.
