About
Owned and operated by the Byron Forest Preserve District, Prairieview Golf Course sits on a scenic stretch of land that overlooks the Rock River. The layout will test different skills with plenty of variety, offering both open, links-style holes and tight, tree-lined holes. The design takes advantage of the rolling terrain, incorporating the varying elevations into the large and undulating greens. The breaks can make the greens hard to read and they're made even more challenging by more than 60 bunkers strategically places along the borders. There are also water hazards in the form of ponds and a meandering stream that come into play on five holes. In addition to the course, there is also a 15-acre practice facility with a driving range, two putting greens, and chipping and pitching greens with two bunkers.

Golfer Reviews
Crowded
Prairie View is a fine course, but I was there on a nice day during the final week of their season and it was jammed. Almost 2 1/2 hours for the front 9 so I gave up at that point. Understandably, I suppose, the grill was offering only hot dogs and candy. I do look forward to playing there next year.
My 60th birthday
Unfortunately one of the members of our forsome had no golf etiquette whatsoever and surely does not belong on a course of this skill level. I have played golf since I was 5 years old I have been as low as a 1.7 handicap and have never experienced such a rude person .
Nice maintained golf course
Quality golf courses! Quality meals! Nice employee!
The course has great features
I have played Prairie view several times and I think it’s a great course and layout. Great bar and restaurant.
Best Value in Illinois
The course is well maintained, and the large greens have little slope but are quick. The golf and bar staff are friendly and courteous, but the course could use a ranger to keep people on pace.
Course needs a ranger
The two foursomes in front of us were extremely slow and showed no golf etiquette. A ranger should have spoken to them . There were a couple of times that the group behind us and our group were waiting on the tee box at the same time for the fairway to clear.
Highly recommended
The staff were helpful and good people
The course was challenging but fair.
The greens were tough but fair.
Fantastic price
Top of the Line for the Value
Great amenities, new club house and unique driving range. Great course layout that is challenging but fair, we have played twice now and will definitely be back!
Worth the drive
There are not too many golf affordable courses with excellent country club style conditions. The large greens are quick and a fair test for all akill levels. I've played the course a couple of times in the past month and benefited by scoring well in dry conditions. The driving range and putting green are great practice facility for before and after the round. Staff is friendly, modest food selection with good prices and replay rates are available for only $20.
Great Course!
What a great course! We played this on our way back to Milwaukee from a weekend trip to Galena/Silvas and for under $60 riding 18 mid-day weekend this may be the best deal around. Teeboxes, fairways, and greens were in perfect condition. We had a drought going on, so some of the outer edge areas were a bit brown, but that's just a testament to the grounds crew and the work they put in to keep the course in great shape! Will absolutely play this course again if/when in the Rockford area.
What happened
Prairie view is what I would call my home course. It’s a fairly long most of the time beautifully maintained course. This last time I went you could definitely tell that the drought conditions has taken its toll. Unfortunately I was there a week prior and opted to golf at another local course because it was worse than this week. For as long as I’ve known and grown up in this area Prairie View has always been know for its course management, but not of late. I also understand that everything has gone up in price, the increase on the cost of the round doesn’t seem or feel like it’s worth the money. For the value, course layout and maintenance, along with the amenities offered, I can definitely go to another course without driving out of my way to get a better value. Hope the powers that be can get it together at Prairie View.
