Reviews
Not really a fairway
It was a fun course to play, however, the fairway was not really distinguishable from what you would consider the rough. Loved the vending machine in the pro shop! All in all, I would recommend for a lower cost round with good pace of play
Best bang for your buck
I’m very new to golf, I’ve only been playing around 2 months. I’ve played at other courses that I liked as well, but this course is by far the best bang for your buck. $20-$27 to play all 18 with a golf cart is a deal that is too good to pass up. The staff is extremely friendly, I ask a lot of newbie questions I know and they were more than willing to walk me through everything I needed. It’s not the most glamorous and high tech course, but this course was well maintained the two times I’ve been and from the other players I’ve seen around it’s great for beginners and more advanced players. Pace of play was very smooth, no long waits to tee off or multiple groups clogging up fairways. All in all 5/5 stars for me.
Great course for game improvement
Went out to Calhoun Elks to work on my iron game instead of the monotony of just hitting range balls. The course lays out well for iron play. Pace of play is great finishing just at 3 hours and the smaller greens rewards accurate shots. The Bermuda greens are slower than most but, for the price, I didn’t expect it to be Bear’s Best or Augusta National. Everyone I met was super friendly, plenty of water coolers around the course to stay hydrated too
Will definitely be back to play on a regular basis
I LOVED IT!!
First off, with mobile check-in available here, ya have to check in for the online payment to finalize. It was confusing for a minute. Second, for under $30 be realistic!! Don’t expect nice greens or well groomed fairways etc…. I played terrible the day before on nice greens but didn’t want to spend another $45+ to “work on something”……yes, I always play budget golf . I saw a sign that said twilight starts at 2PM, $20!!! Really!?! Sweeet! The electric cart was really nice, almost as nice as the guy inside and the nice gents who helped me find #10….lol. The holes are sometimes side by side and it’s easy to get turned around first time out. But the tees were well marked with a picture of the holes on the hole # sign. THERE WAS DRINKING WATER ON THE COURSE TOO! The greens were mowed but hairy and slow. That said, even though you had to pound it, they were absolutely puttable! You could tell most of the course was recently mowed and was being mowed…..the effort is being put in! It’s a lodge yall, not a country club! I highly recommend this place and will certainly be back!
Improving a lot
Good value and getting better. I have played here several times this year and they are putting a lot of work into improvements.
Good For The Money
I am from the area and have played here lots of times through the years. There are times when the condition is not great, but yesterday it was not bad. The greens are soft and will hold a shot, but they are shaggy and slow. Fairways are hit or miss, and you probably have to roll it some to get a reasonable lie. It is pretty short so you can likely have a decent score. It is not a hidden gem, but it is a fun course and good bargain. Your opinion will likely be driven by your expectations coming in. I actually paid $0 to play yesterday with my Golfpass credit and points applied!
Fun Course
I was traveling through the area and found this off the beaten path course. We had a great time. Course is a lot of fun. we only paid $25-30, and the conditions of some of the green reflected that. Overall, we had a blast!
Fun course
I always enjoy my rounds here at Calhoun Elks. It’s relatively short and plenty of obstacles to get around on each hole making it somewhat challenging. There’s a bar with snacks available at the turn. Great value and the good folks here are working hard to consistently make improvements. Pace of play is good, especially during the week. I’ll definitely return.
Worth it
They went a little nuts with sand trying to heal up a few greens but the new greens are fantastic. All greens soft and receptive. Good value and rarely busy.
This is the is one of the worst courses in Ga!
There is no difference between the fairway and the rough and the greens look like my yard at home.
New heaven
I had dreamed of this layout from somewhere. The morning time I got off early for being on the road. Had some trouble finding the right locations. Some holes had the green target in the shade camelfloged.
Better, still good value no matter what
Much better than 3 weeks ago when I went. They are clearly working on it. Greens much better overall. The flooding caused it to be playing the "Winter 9" meaning 4 holes from the front and 5 from the back. Not a bad layout but they still need to do a better job keeping grass in the "rough" much shorter. Can still lose a ball on a great shot in what looks like "fairway" or just off the "fairway". I am not sure if they even have a proper mower to cut the grass short enough regularly or lack the staffing to do it often enoughExpect poor pace with the Winter 9. We played behind 2 jokers who looked like that should know golf, but it was awful. They would've played faster with croquet mallets. They were clueless about etiquette and walked to their carts like an overweight octogenarian limping to the fridge at 2am. No, they were not injured and they were young, probably 20s. Mix that with people looping into hole one all day and you are in for a looooooong round. The weather was beautiful and the staff is super nice.
Worst shape I’ve ever seen it.
This used to be a playable course. Now I would say only pay if it’s free. My guess is there bankrupt by 2026. Sad.
don't, just don't!
Played this course for many years and it's been a long time since it was in real good shape but it was decent for the money. Now its just absolutely horrible! Don't waste your time and money. Greens are shot, there is no Bermuda left anywhere on the course, temporary greens on multiple holes that are just in the middle of poorly mowed grass. Just go play in your yard or your neighbors cattle pasture, time better spent!
