Signature 9th—very memorable par 5 Photo submitted by gshawcross on 08/14/2013
Course Under Renovation
Hole 13 was completely closed, hole 3 played as a par 3, the back nine was completely under construction with new pipes. There was no indication the course was under construction or I would have chosen a different course. Wish GolfNow would post a course construction warning similar to the aeration warning I sometimes see on courses.
Course is usually in excellent shape and worth the ride from Intown. But today was very disappointing. I’d wait until the piping project is complete before driving back to Rome.
No information in advance about closed hole under maintenance
I like Stonebridge in good conditions. Now it was close to unplayable due to nightly rain. It seemed like the drainage wasn't fully working, however that is understandable during the winter season. The weakest point of the round was that there was no information given during booking about closed and shortened holes due to maintenance. Coming from a 1,5h drive, I would have appreciated to make my choice having the full details available (and paying full price).
Great Experience
Great to be back out again....course was in GREAT condition!
Fun foothills golf
The northern portions of Georgia are home to some of the most scenic golf courses in the South. Stonebridge might fall just short of such a distinction, but nevertheless it is a pleasant public course attached to Berry College in the foothill town of Rome. It is very much a ‘90s course with lots of exterior shaping that sometimes competes with the pleasant natural scenery, but a lovely run of lakeside holes around the turn anchors the parts of the course that bring some enjoyable elevation changes. Decent value for the money here, and nice people.
Hidden Gem
Drove from north Alabama to play. Worth the drive, nice little course that is in great shape and has a friendly staff.
Good
Overall, it's nice. Kind, scenic, golf course is nice, and there are few drawbacks, but if I had to say one, the bathroom is a little disappointing.
Play speed no good
Our front team was playing so slow that the first nine holes were pushed and played. Maybe with my family, both kids and girls were beginners. So we gave up on the 10th hole in the second half and started with the 11th hole. From then on to the 18th hole. We played fast and proceeded like that, but we didn't meet the front team until the 18th hole. The family team was playing with such a delay, but no one was on the sidelines without controlling the progress speed
Nice course.. greens were aerated
Puts still rolled well
Call Ahead
Their greens were sanded in prep for the fall season but overall a great course. The rough is rough but that’s expected.
The carts are cool. No GPS - I consider this a plus because of wacky geo fences at some places but they have a ball and club washer.
Stonebridge, best value in West Georgia
The course is in excellent shape. Pace of play on Thursday afternoon was less than 4 hours for 18, and groups were stacked 10 minutes apart. They have recently sanded the greens, but they still rolled true. The fairways and bunkers were in top condition with minimal unfilled divots. Greens had most of the pitch marks repaired and bearly noticeable. For a less than $50 round, you can't find a better deal
Disappointing conditions and pace of play
The course conditions were disappointing. The greens had already been aerated, despite the website stating this wouldn’t happen until September. On top of that, the pace of play was very slow, which made the overall experience frustrating.
